2 seconds on one leg I assume? It could be a flexibility issue. I would say at least a minute with two legs. I had a yoga teacher time a class for 5 minutes one time. He called it an "attitude adjuster".

I've been upping my time spent on the mat, recently. I usually go to a 2 classes a week and at least one group practice (it's like a lead class for experienced students and teachers), then I practice at home at least 3 times a week. I've also been working on adding a more regular pranayama practice. I also teach 4 classes…

If I was interested in opening studio, I would ask the studio owners around me what their experiences are. Ask them why they decided to open a studio, how they make ends meet, etc. A lot of places will let you rent space hourly, which might be a good way to start.

Benefits: 1. I'm a nicer person after I do yoga. I have a long way to go to be a nice person, but it's still an improvement. 2. If you're tight, then an increase in flexibility is a great thing. 3. My posture when I'm not doing yoga is pretty good and fantastic when I'm in class 4. I let things go more often. I hold fewer…

I'm completely bias for Iyengar Yoga. It's really adaptive for all levels, and you will hold the stretches for a longer period of time, which I find beneficial. The teachers go through rigorous training to achieve their certifications. (I'm going through it now [thus the bias] - it takes at least 4 years. 200 hour…

Yes, if your goal is calorie burn, do cardio. Benefits: 1. I'm a nicer person after I do yoga. I have a long way to go to be a nice person, but it's still an improvement. 2. If you're tight, then an increase in flexibility is a great thing. 3. My posture when I'm not doing yoga is pretty good and fantastic when I'm in…

Any stretching will help you. Hold stretches for 20 seconds or more. Do them everyday. For most people the hamstrings are the easiest muscles to gain flexibility. So you should see progress in a month or so. As far as form goes, I would suggest that you keep your legs engaged (work your quads), to stretch your hamstrings.…

Thanks for posting the article.

I don't know if anyone has done this particular challenge but many people do 30 days of yoga. You could try posting in this group: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/1484-generic-yoga-group Best of luck.

I would say a couple of months as well. Depends how often you go.

Just to be clear - there isn't certification of yoga on the national level, except through some schools (types): Ashtanga, Iyengar, I know for sure, maybe Kundalini - these programs are much more intense, and require years of study. This may sound like semantics, but there's no test to get YA registration. It's a…

I don't log anymore, but I do count yoga. Many days it's my only form of exercise. I usually practice 10-14 hours a week. There's a yoga group that is open to all, if you like to talk about yoga more: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/1484-generic-yoga-group

Can't say I do anything like that. If I did that in class, I wouldn't plan on coming back  I don't really worry about the calorie burn of yoga. It's not why I practice. Like hellsbells said, if you want calorie burn, do cardio. That being said, it's not that unusual for me to do ab work or arm work in my home…

I'm someone that took to yoga right away, but I didn't become serious about it for about 6 years. However, not everyone likes it and that's no big deal. I believe to be healthy, you need some sort of exercise and some way to deal with the stresses of life. Yoga is that for some people. You could prefer to meditate and run…

Noise? hmmm. I've had the blood rushing to my head when I first started holding headstand for some time. Do you feel the same way in more minor inversions? Wide angled forward bend (prasarita padottanasana) for instance? Which pose is it the worst in?

Rodney Yee has a bunch that are 20 minutes.

There's a yoga group on MFP that's open to everyone: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/1484-generic-yoga-group Good luck with your challenge.

I can't really do them without a wall for any measurable amount of time. It took me about 12 years to learn to stick it (stop in the middle) - but in the system of yoga I practice handstands are not usually done in the middle of the room. Elbow balance (pincha mayurasana) is much easier to learn balance in. Headstands are…

All I know about is the same one as KombuchaCat. David Swenson is a great teacher and well respected (and lives in my home town) I did find this, but it's a bit more advanced  : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iizo7mkOae0 I looked at his website. He's coming to Manchester & London - you should totally go if you can:…

Not a stupid question at all. Almost everyone does handstands against the wall - it's not at all negative - it's the only way most people will learn how to do them and build up enough strength to do them freestanding. Same is true for headstands. While some people will do a tripod headstand to balance (hands and head make…

Couldn't hurt. Try it out and see if you like it. You can always add balance and stretching without yoga if you end up not liking it.

 Only if you eat less in the evening

I don't do them daily, but I'm sure some people in this group do. Carl? I do them a lot, and I get enjoyment from them - but cured a herniated disk? How? It may have relieved some of the pain in the neck, but I don't see anyway the portion of the disk moved back. Anything is possible I suppose, but I would need to see…

Are you talking about lightheadedness after forward bends?
-
Why do you want to try hot yoga? I find it hard to breathe as well, and I don't like it.
-
you could try your local library and see what they have. See what appeals to you before you buy.

I would go to at least a few yoga classes as well. No one asks what sort of wrestling video they should do to learn wrestling, why should you learn yoga from a video?
