  • I can't answer for DDP Yoga - my understanding of it is that it's yoga with some cardio thrown in - but any program isn't going to make much of a change in three weeks.

  • Love the new avatar. Looks like you got headstand down.
  • :drinker: great job!
  • Never heard of it. I checked it out on-line, reading a few of the bios. The bios are very vague - it doesn't say how long they've practiced, who they studied with, or what their level is. Personally, I would pass. I would check out: yogaglo, ihanuman, free podcasts, or your local library.

  • I haven't found that to be true. However, some yoga poses can make you feel fat. Some will make you feel graceful and beautiful. Some will make you feel weak, others will make you feel strong. Dealing with what you body is like is a lesson to learn from yoga. Recently, I was looking at a picture that someone took of me in…
  • Interesting that no one else touched this one. I know there are some people out there who really dislike all products soy, mostly because of the "plant estrogen"/ isoflavones they contain. I haven't seen any convincing research that shows that soy products act like estrogen in the human body. If someone out there can show…
  • After being on mfp for some years and hearing this request many times, I'm considering making a youtube video myself. I made a 60 minute video for my regular yoga class, but it's not a beginner one. I haven't made the beginner video yet though, so here are my suggestions: Check out your local library and see if they have…
  • Great job!
  • So you have open hips but tight hamstrings? I've had some guys in my classes that are like that. I'm pretty much bendy all over, except my neck and my ankles.
  • Disclaimer: I don't know your knees, what is wrong with them, etc. Anything I say here could make matters worse. I do not know what loose knees are. Do you hyperextend your knees? To build strength: Wall sits with a block between your knees - the block helps you align your legs, and for many people takes the pain out of…
  • I frequently admire my feet  I think all the balance poses really help with foot strength, and vice versa, strong feet would help you balance. I would guess it's also beneficial because your arches are stronger (less likely to develop plantar fasciitis). Way to go!
  • There are studios that offer "Beginners Series", which would put you in a class with your peers. If you would like, you can message me your city and I'll find one that's appropriate. There are many body types and levels of ability in yoga classes I go to. If you want a dvd, you might try your library and see what they have.
  • Local library is a good place to try

  • One from today: Lengthen like drinking a smoothie through a straw
  • You should practice as much as you are willing. It is better to do 10 minutes everyday than 90 minutes one day a week. There's a yoga group here that is open to all: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/1484-generic-yoga-group
  • Never used Yogaglo, but I really like Christina Sell. I've been to quite a few of her classes/workshops: http://www.yogaglo.com/teacher-43-Christina-Sell.html
  • Let me know if it helped or not.
  • I've never done Bikram. I've done a few heated classes and don't like them, but that doesn't mean you will feel the same way. I would start with a basic yoga class and go from there, working your way up the line to warmer and warmer - in a safe and controlled way - never go to a class that you feel you can't leave at any…
  • I totally know what you mean. Both Gomukhasana (cow-faced) and Garudasana (eagle), getting one's legs around each other, doesn't happen all that well. Most people would consider me extremely flexible, yet I struggle with both of those poses. Lots of height under your hips will help cow-faced pose, because it will change…
  • 108 is considered an auspicious number to yogis. Doing 108 Sun Salutations or drop backs or whatever is considered an act of devotion and surrender.
  • I've done it a couple of times. It's taken me any where from 75 min to 3 hours depending on how fast I do them and if I do anything else (inversions, standing poses, etc) in between.
  • In pyramid, place your hand on your sacrum and make sure it's level. That should help your hip alignment.
  • I teach yoga and go to a couple of classes a week on top of that - so those people you see at the store or running errands around town - may have just come from a yoga class or the gym or a long walk, etc - I think judging people by what they are wearing is a bit shallow.
  • This works for me: roll up a beach towel really tight, place it behind your knees as you sit down on your heels. It will hurt like crazy, but it will get the charlie horses to go away.
  • There's an entire yoga group here open to all: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/1484-generic-yoga-group
  • :drinker: :drinker: :drinker: <--- that's chai tea, of course
  • You're doing 5 minute tree poses? That's pretty intense.
