  • Since we can't see your diary.... are you eating a super low-fat diet? Exercising and licking your lips? Not taking a multi-vitamin? Any of those or a combination can cause your dry lips. I prefer Carmex or Blistex for keeping my lips from drying out when I exercise. I also drink at least a pint of water per hour.
  • Michael David Winery - Earthquake Zin. To DIE for!
  • Yep, sounds right. I've had a metabolic assessment and I know exactly how many calories I burn in 3 different heart rate zones. I'd be LOST without my HRM! I'm about due to go for a second assessment - I know that I've bumped up my anaerobic threshold, so I'm probably burning fewer calories at lower heart rates, but higher…
  • Are we going another week? I'm keeping it up anyway...
  • Week 1: 6031 calories Week 2: 7674 calories Week 3: 5334 Calories Week 4: Height: 5'5" Starting weight: 166.6 Monday: 745 calories - Bicycling 80 minutes Tuesday: 1962 calories - (mountain biking, 62 min = 664 calories) (kayaking, 67 min = 482 calories) (hiking, 80 min = 816 calories) Wednesday: 567 calories (70 minutes…
  • How about not getting drunk in the first place? You can enjoy a few beers or glasses of wine or a mixed drink without getting knocked on your *kitten* with a little bit of self control. I drink every day but not to excess. Excess drinking is so bad for anyone on a diet/fitness program. Not only do you lose your…
  • Today's pork tenderloins are exceptionally lean and healthy! I use them a lot. Slice them into 1/2-inch patties and pound them flat - instant "veal" scallopini! Rub it with a spice rub and bake it. Throw it in a food processor with sausage spices and make sausage patties. And don't overlook fish! Fish is great...
  • Today I did my own mini-Iron Wench triathlon - 60 minutes mountain biking, 60 min kayaking, 80 min jogging/hiking. Total calorie burn: 1962! http://www.myfitnesspal.com/exercise/diary/RagtimeLady
  • I love ALL of you ladies! I sure can appreciate everything you're going through - been there, done that, still doing it! I finally have some weight coming off, but only because I know exactly how many calories I burn at rest and in fat-burn and cardio zones, and exactly where my anaerobic threshold is. Way below what…
  • One thing I can recommend is getting your metabolic rate tested. I had a New Leaf assessment done at a relatively close health club (which is, unfortunately, too far away for me to consider a membership). I now know exactly how many calories my body needs to survive at rest (which is DISGUSTINGLY low), plus exactly how…
  • EAS Advantage carb control. I drink it every day. Just remember that protein has 4.5 calories per gram. So do carbs. Fats have 9. Easy formula! Cheers...
  • Well, I enjoy wine with dinner and often a nightcap before bed, and of course the gal-pal outings ... my answer to that is to work my butt off! Take a look at my diaries. I average an hour a day or more of cardio. Then I can eat or drink whatever I want, within reason...
  • So, who else here is over 50? Just curious...
  • Week 1: 6031 calories Week 2: 7674 calories Week 3: Height: 5'5" Starting weight: 170.0 Monday: 1632 calories - Bicycling 160 minutes - did 24 miles! • Your muscles are sore because you're working to the point where you're creating little tears in your muscle tissue. That'a great way to bulk up, tone up, maybe lose a few inches as your muscles tighten, but you might also *gain* some. When I was older, I used to get terrible DOMS 2 days after exercise. Now that I'm older,…
  • Oh, boy, I'm in, too!!! Read my profile for the whole story. Meno is bad enough, but I'm sure many of us also suffer other insults to our metabolism - antidepressants (biggie!), pain killers , arthritis, bad backs, all that stuff. It' horrible! I swear, those who have not experienced it have NO IDEA of how hard it is to…
  • Pistachios! I can only get away with it when I justify my cravings for a need for potassium, which is TRUE! They're a great source of potassium, along with dried apricots (great snack there!). Dammmm... Now I have to go get some!

  • "Super sore" is your clue. You tore up a lot of muscle tissue. The body heals through inflammation. Your muscles are swollen because they need to heal! Back off a little on the intensity of your exercise and spend a little more time at it (more reps, longer duration on cardio). I hope you have consulted with a personal…
  • Hi! Friend request sent - Love having positive, successful "losers" - I'd be honored if you'd accept! Cheers....
  • Today burned 904 calories - 45 min. of bicycling, 35 min on elliptical. Tomorrow, thinking about rowing! Got stress injury in right foot hiking, so that's out for a few days at least....

  • I feel I'm at a disadvantage - I've had my metabolism tested both resting and exercising, and I know exactly how many calories I burn per minute of exercise at different heart rate levels. At 126-135, 7.2 calories. At 136-144, 10.2. If I exceed 144, I count 12. I look at the calorie burn of some of you and WISH my…
  • You have to start from knowing how many calories you need to maintain your weight - then subtract 500 from that to lose 1 pound a week. My metabolism is through the floor - my maintenance calories is only 1536. I subtracted 500 from that and got my goal of 1036. Of course, that's too few calories to a) get proper nutrition…
  • I'm an old b*tch. You will find that as you go through life, most of your so-called "friends" are only your friends because you share in their investment in being a LOSER. A very RARE FEW will CHEER your successes! YOU have to be strong enough to realize that your REAL friends wish you to be healthy and happy and…
  • Today's burn 768! 40 minutes on elliptical @ HR 140, 50 min on Octane Fitness xRide 6000: http://www.octanefitness.com/products/seated-ellipticals/xr6000/ I call it "The Beast." It eats calories and energy like no one's business! Thinking of doing a long hike tomorrow, weather permitting. Cheers, Tracy
  • Okay, I'm crazy... and I'm in! I'm close to that now. Too bad it didn't start today - went on a 7-mile hike and burned 1000+ calories!
