  • I've used Endomondo on my former Droid X and now an iPhone 5. I *did* have problems with my Droid X, but it was a GPS bug that was common to that phone. I got an app that fixed that. No problems at all on my iPhone 5. I usually bike ride, not walk or run. My biggest problem with Endo is that it totally sucks at elevations.…

  • If you have a smartphone or iPhone, skip those and get a bluetooth transmitter and an armband. Then use workout tracking software like Endomondo, MapMyRide, etc. to read the data - you'll get much better analysis. The FT7 gives you more info than the FT4. Tracy
  • I'm not sure how it calculates that, but it's just a guideline to help you determine if you drank enough on your ride. I think you can also choose to see this on your smartphone screen as you're working out so you can see in real time if you're drinking enough. I love Endomondo! It has a problem calculating elevation…
  • I have a polar bluetooth as well as a regular FT 7. The bluetooth unit is all I use now - I have an iPhone and use Endomondo for workouts (mostly bike riding). Endomondo allows you to enter your minimum/maximum heart rates and it will calculate your zones. With other metrics, it determines your calorie burn in each zone.…
  • My goal is 500 miles for August. Hope to do more, as I'm trying to build up my stamina for a century ride. Don't think I'll accomplish it this year. 8/1 - 25.32 miles
  • Hi, Everyone... Just found this thread, so I'll be looking for one for August. I recently made the switch from a hybrid bike, riding mostly on rail trails, to a road bike on real roads. My goal is to do a century ride by the end of the season (in the midwest, that could be anywhere from mid-September to November!). I track…
  • The difference is conditioning. The out of shape person hits high heart rates more easily because they lack a number of elements which help the body deliver oxygen to the muscles efficiently, and the muscle cells lack the ability to metabolize oxygen, fat and carbs efficiently enough to keep up with the demands of the…
  • Okay... you need to decide how much cardio you want to do every day. 30 min? 1 hour? Let's say it's an hour. Start out with maybe 20 minutes running on a treadmill. That should get you good and warmed up! Then do weights - upper and lower body on alternating days. Set the machines so you can do 8-12 reps before reaching…
  • Who can tell? Your diaries are private.
  • Cheese (1 oz) and crackers or apple slices - red bell pepper slices and a small cup of fat free ranch dressing for dip (heck, the bell pepper is good enough by itself! - dried apricots and pistachios (potassium boost!)... Fat free or sugar free pudding cups (60 calories)...
  • Read my profile! Getting older totally sux for weight loss.
  • I usually go vegetarian for a couple days, or until I break the plateau. I don't know why it works, but it does for me.
  • What everyone else said! Just a note on the antidepressants - I gained weight on the ones that aren't supposed to make you gain weight. Went off them, got very depressed. Did my homework - and I asked my doctor if I could try Wellbutrin. It has given me my life back, and it gives me energy! Regarding the exercise, do what…
  • Hi, Janice! Thanks for the add! We "mature" women gotta stick together. Our challenges are so much different than when we had younger bodies. Those on the outside don't usually seem to get it - it's much harder than we're told. For example: That was EXACTLY me a few months ago! Fact is, I went from very, very sedentary to…

  • I agree! When I lost 100+ pounds a couple years ago (in my late 40s), I looked GREAT in my size 4-6 clothes, but my face drooped! Had I not gained some of the weight back, I'd probably be looking at a face lift. In fact, my skin was so loose and droopy I always wore body shapers and support hose. I could never be seen in a…
  • Wish I could see your diaries! I'm guessing you're going for high potassium. I can never seem to get nearly enough and I suffer from leg/foot cramps when I exercise. My favorite snacks are 1/4c of dried apricots or pistachios, but they're not exactly low calorie. When I really have a taste for cake, you know what I call…
  • I love jicama! It's usually eaten raw. My favorite way to prepare it is in a Mexican salad. Peel the jicama - cut into 1/2 inch cubes. Squeeze a couple limes over it. You can add chili powder, or I like to add finely sliced serrano peppers or Thai hot peppers. If you want, add a little powdered cumin and coriander. Add…
  • That strikes me as odd - when you run easy, you burn fat. Run hard, you burn more carbs. Hit your aerobic threshold and all you burn are carbs. No carbs, no energy, especially over a distance. Protein is great for mending muscle after your run and serious athletes need more of it daily than a sedentary person, but you…
  • They say that vigorous exercise will speed up your digestive tract. I haven't been so lucky, but maybe that's what's going on. Two things - rice usually slows you down, and if you're drinking a lot of water, try taking some fiber tabs - they will help absorb some of the water now passing through your colon. Don't overdo,…
  • 5 feet 4 inches and 127 pounds is not too thin. Have been 235+ was too fat, and I got too used to the padding! I wasn't about to gain weight back on purpose after finally getting healthy after 25 years! Not to worry - my doc put me on some bad meds and I gained a bunch back, which is why I'm here now. Again - I'll take the…
  • I've had the same thing happen to me. Yes, it hurts! it's all a matter of getting used to it. You will get used to it, really. Maybe you can take some nighttime excedrin or tylenol to help you sleep for a while. When I was thin before, I used to get actual bruises! I'll take the bruises just to be able to get back into my…
  • Go look at my profile! My doc put me on some seriously bad meds after I had lost MORE THAN 100 POUNDS. I gained about 50 back - 30 right away. I went off the meds, but the depression was terrible. Earlier this year, while researching Cymbalta for joint pain (yes, in some people it causes weight gain), I read some user…
  • I agree with the others - it's all about the calorie deficit. That said, it helps to have a heart rate monitor and to know when you're in the fat burning zone, when you're in the cardio zone (when you burn fats and carbs) and when you're at threshold or above and burning only carbs. When you start working in cardio and…
  • Wow, and look at you! Feel free to send a friend request, either here or on Endomondo... I'll accept both! I'd love to have more Endomondo friends! Cheers, Tracy (Ragtimelady on Endo)
