  • I do the plain-brown-paper-bag route, maybe a pinch of salt if I'm feeling needy. But it's pretty good just plain!
  • Yes. I go to the grocery store twice a week. Once to buy our groceries for the next week, once for more fruit/veggies/milk. I have dinner planned out a week in advance. Actually, I have breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks planned a week in advance me AND my husband. I don't like surprises, or frequent trips to the grocery…
  • [To be honest, I skimmed a lot of the replies] Did I miss a reason you can't get up earlier to workout? Get up at 5am, or earlier. You'll be happy you did.

  • Not your place to say anything, sorry. I don't think it's appropriate to say anything unless you watch her skip meals, throw up, etc etc etc the list goes on. You said it yourself, you aren't really friends. That's like going up to a stranger and telling them they look anorexic. If she had GAINED 30 lbs, would you pull her…
  • What a beautiful story! You look great!
  • What an AWESOME story!!! And great thread title!
  • How about a hot cereal? Oatmeal is pretty filling!
  • Meal 1: Rice and beans Microwavable rice (usually in a pouch) Can of beans (black or pinto) Can of Rotel tomatoes (or generic, whatever, just get some 'maters with flavor) Cook rice, mix everything together, eat. Should last a few meals. Pair with a veggie of your choice. Meal 2: Quesadillas Corn tortillas (not flour,…
  • Avoid packets/drops etc etc etc. Go natural. Try lemons or limes - cut them into slices at home, then throw in a container in the fridge at work. When you are refilling your water, squeeze the juice into your water. I bought a package of those blood-oranges, and apparently I hate them as-is, but they are great for…
  • Trial and error - find out what works for YOUR body! I work out early mornings too. Three or four mornings a week I run, the other days are strength days. I need caffeine before I run, or I lose steam fast - so running mornings I take a PowerBar Gel with caffeine before I head out the door. On strength mornings, I don't…
  • About every three months I convince myself that I should give up creamer, so I try for a few days, and then I'm over it. I like creamer in my coffee, and that is just that. I drink a lot of flavored coffee too, and there are probably three cups a week that I go sans creamer. I drink one or two cups per day, maybe three if…
  • Bad: Out buying office supplies one day, the young worker (male, early 20's), in attempts to be nice to the customers, asked me when I was expecting. I wasn't. Not even close. I don't think I ever wore that specific shirt again! This happened five or six years ago. Good: A few years after I started running, my sister in…
  • Here is my unapologetic tip for exercise haters: Stop being negative. Don't get dressed for your workout thinking you'd rather be on the couch. Put your favorite song on. Wear your favorite workout shirt. Remind yourself how great you'll feel after. Force yourself to think positively, like, how lucky you are to have an…
  • There is no right or wrong answer. For me, it's great in moderation. Moderation = ONE actual serving of two tablespoons. It's really easy for me to eat spoonfuls, so I have to make sure and actually measure it out. When I'm feeling particularly careful, I'll buy one that isn't made with sugar or extra oils (I believe I buy…
  • What are you doing now? And what is your busy schedule filled with?
  • I think I could have written this myself :-) Even if I think I'm slow or don't feel like I have a "typical" runners body, at the end of the day, running makes ME happy! Sometimes I also get frustrated when my friends won't train for a race, but they will just go out and run it and kill my time. I secretly hope that they…
  • I think I'm in the same boat as you - I'm not totally fit and perfect, but definitely was not sore after the 30DS. I usually pair it with Jillians 6 Week 6 Pack, and that seems to get me a decent hour long workout. 6W6P mostly focuses on abs and legs, and that video DID leave me sore for the first week (but I wasn't doing…
  • Agreed with the PP - if you haven't rested in 7 days try the rest day. Might be more helpful than you think. However, if you rested over the weekend (just an example), get to the gym and kick your own butt. :-)
  • I was going to say this exact same thing! Good luck OP!
  • Actually you don't even need to use the oil - just put the 1/4 cup of popcorn in the bag and pop it! I've been doing this for about a week, works great! It's MUCH cheaper and healthier than buying the pre-packaged bags, and if you omit the oil, you can reuse the bag over and over.
  • Before I run (even training), I take a PowerBar caffeinated gel. I generally run super early and don't have time to let toast/banana settle in my stomach, plus I need the caffeine. When necessary, I will take a second one, sans caffeine, in the middle of my run (if it's a 10+ miler). I also love Shotbloks. Not everyone…
  • I've been doing 6W6P on and off for about six weeks now, I really like it! I aim to do it three or four times a week, because I also run and bike and don't have unlimited workout time. It calls for a small weight, but it's definitely not required. I didn't use it much in Level 1, but I do use it in Level 2. I just use a…
  • There is no answer to this. It all depends on the brand, and your body shape. Every designer has their own size chart - so even with in just Jr's brands or just Women's brands, you might wear different sizes in one department store. KWIM?
  • First, I personally do not always eat back my workout calories. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. I just follow how my body feels. If I'm still super hungry and have drank plenty of water, I'll eat more. If I feel like I'm eating too much, I'll back off. On days when I do a super mega workout - I make sure to eat back…
  • About four years, minus a year due to pregnancy/new baby. But for 2011, I'd say anywhere from 15-25, 3-4 days a week. Just depends on how I am feeling and what my weekend plans are. I also bike 10-20 miles a week and do various JM videos. And walk.
  • Lots of water and keep moving.
  • Weird. I wouldn't/don't eat a giant meal right before a workout, but do consume something - whether it's a banana 30 minutes before, or a gel right before I head out the door. Some people need an empty stomach to workout - some people need a little something. Do what works for you. And I would not wait 45 minutes to eat…
  • Yup! My first official half is this weekend, my long training runs have only been 9.5-10 miles each, with no potty breaks. I've done a couple of 20k's and had to stop for potty breaks twice in each of them. I love love love races, the atmosphere is so fun! Even tho I'm a snail, I still get slightly anxious about them and…
  • Eat more vegetables - at home. Fresh, frozen, canned, whatever - just eat some veggies. Step away from the scale. Consider only weighing yourself once a week. If you get neurotic about the scale, avoid it. Work hard, and visit it once in a while. I weigh in on Fridays. If I weighed myself daily, I wouldn't eat. I would…
