Our local restaurant has steamed choices. It doesn't offer brown rice but I usually skip the white rice. Our sauce comes on the side too so I either do a little for extra flavor or none...depending on what I feel like. Load up on the steamed veggies and maybe get some steamed chicken or shrimp with it. I don't usually get…

I know the frustration but I try to remember 1lb of muscle burns about 40 or so calories and 1 lb of fat burns about 5 cals. It sucks not seeing the scale budge but it will soon. Keep up all the hard work!

I started running just about a year ago and was lucky to do a couple minutes. I wish I did the C25K as I think it would have made the process easier for me. I recently did the C210K and LOVED it. I just completed my first half marathon. The biggest benefit...confidence! I feel like I can do just about anything and am happy…

Yes. The cold weather gear is very nice (even when the temp is just chilly and not freezing). For a short run I can do a cotton legging or capri legging. On longer runs the gear that keeps sweat/moisture away from your skin helps to make you feel much more comfortable. You don't necessarily have to spend a ton of money…

I just picked up 2 running skirts and can't wait for the weather to break so I can wear them! I say whatever works for you and keep up the great work!

Nope not bad. Extreme amounts of too much protein can be harmful but if your diet is balanced (or somewhat balanced) I wouldn't worry. I'm usually over and I seen several posts on here with members stating they felt the MFP daily protein allotment is a little low.

I've been told by several trainers this is a myth...a pound is a pound. Muscle is leaner and takes up less space so while you may not have noticed a change in the scale it is possible to have lost some inches. Also, a pound of fat burns about 5 calories and a pound of muscle burns about 40 cals...

I had the same problem too. If you aren't eating enough and skimping on protein then your body is breaking down your muscle for fuel rather than the fat. Muscle is easier to breakdown. I ended up at my Dr.'s since I was tired, dizzy, etc half way through my first month...I was also training for a half marathon. My Dr.…

Running has also helped me with muscle toning and strength (lower body). I have light hand weights (5lbs) and a Kettlebell also 5lbs. I believe the rule of thumb is to use a weight heavy enough to feel the 'burn' at the end of your reps and still allow you to keep proper form. If you aren't feeling it then it is time to…

There are 2 dvd's...The 30 Day Shred and The 30 Day Shred with Weights (she uses a kettlebell in this although you can use a hand weight). If I remember correctly the advanced examples in the 30 Day Shred include weights at times. Overall, both include cardio intervals so you do get your heart rate up. I own and enjoy both…

I do a couple of things...I'll add some to my morning oatmeal just to mix it up. I'll also make my own 'trail mix' and put a pre-measured amount in those small snack size baggies (otherwise I'll go overboard). I crush them up and add them to my pancake batter...I found a good low cal cottage cheese pancake recipe on here.…

I'm really glad you found a program to ease you into running. I didn't when I started and struggled. If it hadn't been for an encouraging running buddy I probably would have stopped. I'm glad I didn't as I LOVE it now. My first tip would be the program, second would be to get fitted for a good pair of shoes at a running…

I remember reading that you can have too much years ago...just pulled this from the Mayo Clinic site: Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) is an essential nutrient. Still, it's possible to have too much vitamin C. Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin that supports normal growth and development. Vitamin C also helps your body absorb…

Thanks...I needed that!

I had this issue mostly after intense workouts. I made an appointment to see my Dr. and my blood sugar was low. He suggested getting more protein in my diet and cutting back on the carbs a bit. As soon as I upped my protein I was good and I can certainly tell on a day in which I haven't tried very hard. I do love my carbs…

Great job! About a year ago I couldn't run 1 mile. I'm about to run my first half marathon and this past weekend ran about 14 miles without stopping. When I really think about it...I'm amazed and proud.

Pants that I actually have to button and signing up each month for one race...doesn't have to be anything fancy but its enough to keep me going.

Have you thought about Target? http://www.target.com/Parties-Weddings-Dresses-Clothing-Womens/b/144457011/ref=sc_fe_l_5_256138011_10?node=144457011 Since they are partnering with all these designers they sometimes have some really cute (and surprisingly well made) dresses that don't break the bank. Also, I love places like…

While I'm not doing the program as a whole right now...it was too much for me while getting ready for my first half marathon...I have been doing a couple dvd's each week for cross training. I just finished Core Cardio and Balance since Sunday's are my long run days and I love the stretches in this program as a whole!! I'm…

I don't know that being sore is as important as switching it up--you may want to google muscle memory for more info. I would check out Insanity (by Beach Body). The dvd's keep things switched up and you'll get your cardio and toning. You may even be sore. You could search a few of the boards as I think there are a couple…

Fantastic!!! I actually just ran my first 10 miles on saturday. A friend and I are gearing up for our first half marathon and to be honest I'm been a little nervous that I bit off more than I can chew. After saturday and pushing through 10 miles I can't wait. Great job and keep up the great work!! :drinker:

They do offer a couple great sugar free flavors...vanilla & caramel are my go to choices. I'll get a tall cappuccino, nonfat milk and sugar free flavor for around 60 cals or so...less if you get it iced.

The workouts are 6 days a week. For the first month they are around 40 minutes long. The second month they bump up to 60 minutes. They are intense. Search Insanity on the topic boards...there are several current with people giving updates on how they are doing etc. I've completed month one and really enjoyed it...they are…

Have you ever tried the ziploc steam bags? They have a recipe for an omelete...with real eggs or the substitue. You can mix it up in the bag the night before and leave it in the fridge to pop in the microwave in the am. I tried it and not too bad. My microwave was a little higher power than what the recipe called for so…

We've been battling all sorts of sickness here...upper respiratory, flu...you name it, it's hit at least one of us in the house (ugh). I haven't been able to do much else. I was able to do day 1 of month 2 and was sore for 3 days...I was never sore like that during the first month. Just ran an 8k yesterday (while fighting…

I'm a big oatmeal person. I use the add-in's to mix it up (fruit or nuts). I've seen some do smoked salmon with whole wheat toast or one egg which I've been thinking about too for the extra protein.

Sadly, the girls were the first to go! So, so sad when your little one says daddy's are bigger

Angel lush cupcakes: http://www.kraftrecipes.com/recipes/angel-lush-cupcakes-115431.aspx I've made the cake (delicious) and I've used small premade angel food bundt cakes too. Happy birthday!

As I understand it you should stick to things that are relatively low on the glycemic index prior to your run and after you need to re-fuel with things that are higher on the index. Runnersworld.com has some good articles. You may need to play around a bit because what works for one person doesn't work for another. Good…
