  • A mantra has gotten me through my last few 3+ mile runs - I hit a huge mental wall at 2 miles lately. My mantra is "You are strong, fit, capable and today quitting isn't an option." Just keep going!
  • I love it added to plain, non-fat greek yogurt (Fage) with a small amount of natural sweetener - comparable to the filling of a peanut butter pie :) Also as others have suggested - smoothies, protein shakes, oatmeal, and for various baked desserts.
  • I quit smoking on January 12th - 303 days! I had attempted to quit many times previously with the same result; sitting in a parking lot after buying a pack of cigarettes, smoking one and crying. I was able to sucessfully quit using Chantix. I only took it for 5 weeks, but I know it was the difference this time around. I…
  • I buy the broccoli slaw (julienned cuts of broccoli and cabbage) and add that to my greens. Also chick peas, pecans, and cranberries are great too - make sure you measure though.
  • If you would like make your diary public so we can see what choices you are making and maybe make some suggestions. If you arent' eating back any of your exercise calories.....eat them!
  • You can also add vinegar to milk as a sub for buttermilk. http://frugalliving.about.com/od/condimentsandspices/r/Buttermilk_Sub.htm Thanks for the recipe!
  • Yes the shakes - they have 25g each so with either fat free milk or almond milk I can easily get a great protein "helper". But, like you I dont' want to live on shakes, so the addition of two fat free Greek yogurts ( I like the Fage brand) can add another 13-18 grams per yogurt. I haven't used it, but I know there is…
  • My macros are set at 45% protein 35% CHO and 20% fat - and 5-6 days a week when I go to the gym I need to consume around 200g in protein to eat back by exercise calories. I rarely can get that much from "natural" foods - I usually average 50g from two shakes - one after my morning workout and one at night - and supplement…
  • I usually grab a Luna bar for my early morning (5:30) intense class; has some carbs and protein to fuel me through my workout and under 200 calories or for variety a hard boiled egg. After I always have a protein shake; the protein I use has 24g protein, 4g CHO, 2g fat. I love Greek yogurt too and have that for a snack.
  • I change mine ALOT to keep me motivated but one out of these five are always in the rotation. Proud Mary - Tina Turner (great first song due to the slow start and then you just KICK it) Welcome to the Jungle - GNR Shut Up - Black Eyed Peas Lose Control - Missy Elliott It Takes Two - Rob Base Happy Running!
  • Beefy jerky - my favorite brand (mingua) has 40 cals/1g Fat/ 1g CHO/ 7 g protein per serving - it is high in sodium though if that s a concern.
  • Congrats for taking control of your life and kicking diabetes in the rear :)

  • I just met with my trainer (April) who has a Masters degree in Nutrition and Exercise Physiology about this exact same question. I am committed to the gym 6 days a week and work really hard every time I am there but I am not losing pounds. According to April it is a necessity that I eat my calories EVERY day to give my…
