Nice job!!! 2+ years ago at 230 lbs I finished my first 5k in 49 mins. :( A few weeks ago I set a 5k race PR at 31:05. After losing 70 lbs this makes me happy! One day I will get under 30 for a 5k race. :)

I find that I typically do not need anything until at least an hour into running and even then only take it "just in case." I use Nuun rather than Gatorade or other sugary drinks. Nuun is awesome for hydration and replacing electrolytes. I have texture issues too so I cannot do Gu Chomps. I like the Honey Stingers best. I…

Great topic! And congrats to all of you on your success! Why? for me.. The first half marathon was because I'd ran enough 5k's to equal a full marathon I'm sure. I needed a bigger goal than just a 5k. I started running over 2 years ago when I was 230 lbs. Once I lost around 60 lbs I decided i needed a bigger goal.. so I…

I would definitely try to get in an 11/12 miler before race day. It will help when it comes to confidence on race day. Then you can taper back down to 9 a couple of weeks before the race. I am following the training plan in the August issue of Runner's World. If you will shoot me a message later I can show you exactly what…

I'm a half marathoner...feel free to add me! I am running my 2nd (and 3rd) next month. One in Atl and one in Knoxville.
-
I agree that if you can do 10-11 you will have no problem making the half distance. Good luck!

I run with a Nathan handheld. I also have a fuel belt but it weighs me down more than I like so the handheld is perfect...except I wish it kept my water and Nuun colder for longer when it is warm out. I have friends that wear Camelbaks for long runs.

Great job, STG!! That is such an awesome feeling!! I ran what was suppose to be an EZ 3 today.. did 3.2 at 9:48 pace. Not sure it was easy but it felt good and I wasn't about to slack off and go slow. I also managed to do a killer kettlebell workout that now has me wanting to do nothing but sit all day. My training calls…

I have the 305 and can't say enough good things about it. It was less expensive than some other options and has been my favorite running tool so far!

Correction to my training plan info.. It is actually the plan that is in the August edition of Runner's World mag. I took today off. My knees were thankful. I'm making up my missed 3 miles tomorrow. It feels weird to taper this time around as I noticed I will not be logging as many weekly miles as I did when I last trained…

I'm in! I am following the training plan that was printed in the July (I think) issue of Runner's World. My half (2nd!) is on October 2nd in Atlanta. It is part of the 13.1 series. My time for my first half (spring in Knoxville, TN) was2:28. I want to beat that time but just finishing will be great. I ran 12 miles today,…

I'm not sure that I am all that experienced but I have been running for at least 3 years now. I've ran many 5ks and stuff in between that and my first half marathon. I am currently training for my 2nd half. And you probably know all that since we're MFP friends. ;) But... When I trained for my last half marathon I did not…

32 ounces before bed here.. always! that doesn't count the 64-80+ I drink every day.

The only advice I would take from a thread like this is that which says, "Go get fitted at a specialty running store." They will analyze YOUR stride/gait/etc. You may not wear the same shoe that myself or anyone else here does. You may have very different needs. To prevent injury, get fitted!

Thanks, Danielle!! This week is moving slow. Must be the long weekend creeping up.. and you know it'll go by way too fast!! I took another rest day yesterday, which I typically do not take 2 in one week but we met some friends for dinner. And I of course was over on calories but noticed a dip in the scale today. Weird…

When I run outside alone or on the treadmill, I DO listen to music. When I run with friends I do not listen to music. I have done a couple of treadmill runs without music, which is hard but at least one time I have ran the TM with a buddy beside me and it wasn't as bad.

I have not personally used that method but my training partner has! She's had great success. I'm getting ready to run my 2nd half marathon in October. I think the key is finding the plan and sticking to it! Good luck!!

I only wear makeup if I am leaving after work and already have makeup on. I am guilty of making sure my workout clothes are all matchy, right down to my headbands! haha
-
Sleep in your workout clothes. Set the alarm. Get up. Just do it. Or lay out your clothes, set the alarm, get up and just do it. :) No excuses!

One thing I want to work on this week - strength training and definitely stretching.

Sooooo... interesting run this weekend. I had 3 miles to run on Saturday which went well, minus poor dinner choices the night before, but I managed to NOT puke up my dinner while running. Then I did a BodyPump class. Felt great to get that all done early that morning. Makes for a great day! Yesterday was my scheduled long…

I use 12kg (26lbs), 16kg (35lbs) and 24kg (53lbs) kettle bells for various different kettlebell exercises. Love them!

Good luck to you, D! Can't wait to hear how your double digit goes!! WP - Good luck! I hope your race goes well! I think I will be ok. I just haven't done a double digit since my half marathon in April. My longest was an 8 miler a couple weeks ago and I think the only reason it was so bad is because it was solo. I struggle…

I ran 6 miles last night. Kind of a running NSV for me too. I've done many tempo runs since starting my latest half marathon training. I think I am in week 7 now. Anyway, yesterday's run was 6 miles with a 4 mile tempo. It's been hot so I have only been doing my long runs on the weekend outdoors. I was on the TM yesterday.…

I would love to join though I am not sure my exact plan for September other than continue half marathon training. I have been running for 2 years and completed several 5ks, one 8k, 1 10k and my first half marathon in the spring. My current goals (as far as running) are to continue in hopes to run the entire 13.1 in October…

I wear a Garmin 305. It's a great tool.

I use to get side stitches when I first started running. That for me had to do with my breathing. I would take a few deep, long breathes and totally exhale. That usually did the trick to end the side stitch. Not sure if that's what is happening with you but try it and it may work for you as well.
-
I would focus on speed workt o become faster rather than trying to lengthen your stride.
-
Immodium? My hubby and another running buddy swear by it. I have not tried it though. I've been the one caught at mile 3.88 a few too many times with no place to go, no tp on hand and a bad bad bad situation. Seriously.

I am a firm believer in taking walk breaks when/if you need them. They have definitely helped me become a better runner. I am currently training for half marathons 2 and 3. In the spring I used the walk/run method and could barely run a mile straight. I am now able to run 6 miles without a walk break. I just PR'd my 5k…
