try sprint interval training., 3x a week. here's what each interval consists of: (a) the sprint...10-20 seconds of pounding the pavement as fast as you can go, pushing from your rear end. (b) the bodyweight exercise...I alternate upper body and lower body exercises, generally compound exercises, and do as many reps as you…

^^ This. I love sprint interval training. Here's a great cardio + resistance workout....and you're going to do this outside, not on a treadmill. do 8-12 intervals of the following: (a) sprint as hard as you can, pushing from your *kitten*, for 10-20 seconds; (b) do as many reps as you can of a bodyweight exercise,…

lasting motivation must come from within you. if you want improved health bad enough, you will get back on track. write down ALL of the things you hate about being overweight...dig deep and be brutally honest with yourself. review your list often. at some point, if your reasons are meaningful enough to you, you will get…

Do something each day to inspire others :)

I recommend that you try the activity in my blog: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/H_Factor/view/recipe-for-a-will-power-pill-for-help-with-the-mental-part-of-the-journey-155978

your story is not uncommon. The problem is that folks don't know what it is or how to deal with it. I've been on this journey for a little over a year. There are times that I'm rock solid in the zone. Then, there are other times when some of those mental meanies get to me...whether they be complacency, nighttime munchies,…

This will work if you believe it can work. Once you convince yourself that something can happen, it will happen. Believing that it can happen depends on how strong your motivation is for going on the journey....what are your deep dark reasons for hating your current lifestyle and wanting to be more healthy? Write those…

early in my journey, I told friends, family and co-workers exactly how each of them could help me....things they could do (like ask me if I really wanted a particular food item when ordering out...if it was an unhealthy choice)...and things they should not do (like bring over some dang cape cod potato chips). Here's my…

MFP is where the fierce folks hang out....but your boyfriend just isn't ready to go on his own healthy journey. He has to make the decision for himself. If he does, perhaps then he will take interest in all the awesomeness that is MFP.

I agree that you can't help someone who doesn't want it bad enough. Perhaps you could try this (it can't hurt)... "I know that you've tried in the past and are ready to try again. I know that its difficult to be persistent. I know that will power comes and goes. What if I had a will power pill that you could tailor make…

muscle retains water to recover so, depending on when you are weighing in, some of that scale weight is simply extra retained water because your muscles haven't recovered enough to give it up. you are likely making healthy gains even if the scale weight doesn't reflect it at this time. don't fret the scale weight...its not…

awesome thread!

I do some steady paced cardio work here and there...but I like to combine cardio and resistance training together. one form of this is my weekly boot camp. The other form of it is my sprint interval training where I go outside and do this: go as hard and fast as I can, pushing from my rear end, for 10-20 seconds...do a…

@ojell...whether you lose weight with C25k or any other exercise program depends more on how well you are eating while on the program because over 80% of weight loss/gain is based on what you eat and drink. C25k and other exercise programs can assist you in weight loss, cardio health, and other important areas...but only…

when you drink enough water, your liver doesn't need to help out the kidneys to their job. when the liver doesn't have to help out the kidneys, it can focus on its primary job...which is digesting the food you eat. You know what happens when the liver is helping the kidneys instead of digesting the food you eat....you got…

maybe something in this blog will help: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/H_Factor/view/breaking-a-plateau-170648 I'm also sending you a FR as my daughter is named Lexi....

2 things.... the basic concept is calories in/calories out. if you do a spike day, it needs to be factored into the weekly equation. So, let's say that you would normally eat 1500 calories a day to maintain your deficit. On that week, that amounts to 10,500 calories. If you choose to eat 2,500 calories on your spike day,…

hmmmm...hard to say why you are hungry if you are eating the way you used to eat. Maybe its still residual from the holidays and maybe its the insulin spike from the snack foods you're eating. Maybe it will be hard for a few days, but make an honest effort to cut out those snack type foods and see if that makes a…

bumping because I want more folks who are struggling to read and think about this.

turn on your grill. pull out a sheet of tin foil. put some EVOO on it. put the tilapia on the EVOO. sprinkle generous amounts of dill and mrs. dash's original recipe on it. sometimes I add garlic as well. put tin foil on the grill. when you flip the fish, put the same seasoning on the other side. enjoy!

We are human and we will struggle. When you take time to reflect on the reasons you struggle and learn from them, you can become a big winner in the end. Enjoy the journey and learn from its bumps. Welcome back.

great start to your journey! just a head's up...the weight loss might slow some as folks usually drop water weight early. after that, its with persistence and hard work that you continue to burn fat. as long as you stick with healthy choices, you will achieve your goals. do your best to avoid frustration and complacency…

As much as you want to be a true friend and help, you can't. He has to be the one to make up his own mind that he hates his current lifestyle enough and is ready to make a change. Until he reaches a point of acknowledging what he hates about his current lifestyle, he will keep on living the same way. I had plenty of loved…

um, I can run for 45 minutes at a time in the middle of a 24 hour fast. I can also bike for over an hour at a pretty good pace 22 hours into a 24 hour fast. I have done sprint interval training in the middle of a 24 hour fast. I've done all of these things without coming close to passing out. maybe some of us just have…

I think the best way to reply, if it comes up again, is "I'm glad you found something that works for you. I hope you stay with it this time. I know low carb wouldn't work for me because I don't want to go a lifetime without hamburger buns, watermelon, pasta, pizza, etc....and I know that if I low carb it and don't stick…

most of your early loss was probably water weight being dumped...and the shock to your system. its very difficult to lose 3 pounds of fat per week. your body is adjusting. however, you probably aren't eating enough. your goal should be to NET at least 1200 calories a day. that means that you should eat 1200 + exercise…

Reality is...I WAS FAT. One reason I didn't start my journey sooner than Jan. 2011 is because it took me a LONG TIME to realize that I wasn't meaty, chubby or just plain overweight...I WAS FAT. I don't have a problem reminding myself that I WAS FAT because it helps me stay on course on this journey. I like to remember the…

I haven't read all of the replies to your OP, but your doctor is an idiot. If you are using a HRM to measure calories burned, then you are burning those calories...plain and simple. I will say that adding more exercise to your routine isn't always the way to knock the scale down. Our muscles need time to rest and…

I have told others about MFP who have expressed an interest in improving their health. A few of them have pursued it. I don't sweat it if they don't. I remind myself that you can lead a horse to water but you can't force it to drink. I consider MFP the water :)
