I'm at 15% carbs. At 1500 calories, that works out to 56 grams (I actually keep it under 50 though, MFP just doesn't work that way). And I'm still in ketosis, and losing weight at a comfortable pace. One common mistake I see people make is to set their carb limit too low, and then not eat much vegetables. I've read that…

5'0", have 90 lbs to lose. I can't say that I have much sympathy to spread, though. I am what I am. I have my complaints, like finding clothes - always either too tight or too long. But I've never wanted to be taller. I'll gripe that NASA not hiring astronauts who are under 5'2", but I don't gripe about being shorter than…

I noticed you didn't bold this part: Not all opinions are equal. In this case, she's clearly looking for opinions from people who've tried it. If you're opinion that it's a waste of money has prevented you from trying it, than you don't have the kind of experienced opinion she's looking for. She could have been more…

I don't know about the type of benefits you're describing. But my sister loves Shakeology. She hasn't claimed happier moods or anything like that. Just that it's an easy breakfast, made with fruits and vegetables, with respectable amounts of protein. She likes the taste. She finds the shakes filling. What more can you ask…

You guys are awesome. Thank you so much!

It also says "Not including exercise".

I see. And it says right in the instructions to use "Light" if you're an office worker. So retail with a lot of walking probably medium.

You use your current weight. After you lose a lot of weight, you need to recalculate. I'm getting lost in the details your workouts. It sounds like you lift 3 days a week, and do cardio 5 days a week (with some overlap between them). But what kind of job do you do? Activity level has more to do with the kind of lifestyle…

Slow down a minute. She didn't ask for a diet critique, she asked for help with the website. Which makes your inquiries unsolicited. That's how arguments get started. And getting advice from some random person in a forum is no better than any other online advice. I'm sure you mean well. But unsolicited advice often isn't…

Thanks for replying. That's good to know.

Try it and find out. I eat most of my calories for breakfast and lunch. You might find it works perfectly. You might find that, even eating more at other meals, you're still hungry for the one you're trying to reduce. This varies by person. The only way to know is to try it.

I don't do intermittent fasting on purpose, but sometimes it happens. I'm on a low-carb diet (15% carb/25% protein/60% fat). Sometimes, I just don't need to eat. Or I get too busy in the day so I skip lunch and then by dinner I'm not hungry anymore. I'm still on the fence about what to do on these days, but that's beside…

Nice! Good for you

Definitely. I love plain Fage Total - not the fat free or 2%. It's got the lowest carbs and highest fat of any yogurt I've checked. And I only have up to 1/2 cup a day so there's only 4 g. carbs. It's hard to find though (at least in Anchorage). There are only two stores in town that carry it, and they are out of it about…

I had something similar to Yak-Trax. They kept falling off my shoes, though.

That sounds like fun. Enjoy

One more thing for folks trying to "de-carb": Don't forget the fat, and don't skimp on vegetables. You can replace most high-carb foods (like bread and pasta) with vegetables. Determine how many carbs and how much protein to eat each day, the rest of your calories should be fat. Don't just replace all your carbs with…

Here's how I get protein: - Protein powder: You can find all kinds of smoothie recipes online. I find most include too much fruit, but I'm on a low-carb diet, not just cutting back. I mix my protein powder with plain yogurt and frozen berries. - Bacon and eggs. I find this doesn't really need anything else. If you're…

Ice ruins all doesn't it? Right now our streets are just a little frosty. So I feel like I'm going to slip, but it's not icy enough to wear studs. I need to get my trekking pole out though. That helps in all weather.

I guess one thing I can contribute is to take stock of which parks/trails/streets are well lit. I just had to cut my walk short because the park felt a little scary. I try to take my walks during daylight, but I got too busy today and had to do it after work.

In my observations, it seems like people who were once healthy have a much harder time with weight gain (emotionally) than people who've been overweight since a young age. Now I'm starting to see another pattern: "I used to be athletic", "I used to be skinny", "I used to be...". I believe Springsting wrote a song about…

It's hard to give up foods you consider your favorites. But, for a lot of junk food, if you stop eating it for a while, then when you pick it up again it just doesn't taste as good. So I suggest you make a list of foods you want to cut back on - don't try to make it exhaustive, just the worst offenders - and make a goal to…

I don't know why. Growing up, my mom used to say "starve a fever, feed a cold". No matter how sick we got, she knew we were getting better when we started eating EVERYTHING.

I think this is a question of "how much cardio is too much?", if I'm interpreting correctly. I'd be curious about that answer too, if anybody knows it. The program I'm on has me doing both walking and cross-fit training, but never on the same day. I've never seen a recommendation to do both walking and cross-fit in the…

Very well said. There's also a matter of carb sensitivity, which varies by person but I'm not even gonna try to explain because I'll just butcher it (I'm not even sure I'm calling it the right thing). What I will tell you is that low-carb diets don't work for everyone. The litmus test I used when deciding to try a low-carb…

I am totally geeking out that I know what you're referring to

I think it's an iterative process. You get your head in line - in some fashion - and that kicks off the weight loss efforts. But then at some point you get to where you can't improve any more physically without make some more changes mentally. Or else you fall off the wagon because something in the system was not quite in…

Science and nutrition reports on averages, numbers that work for most people. It's actually completely possible that she's naturally small and completely correct about what her target weight should be. However, if that's the case, then OP won't be able to get help on MFP. All anybody knows here is what works for most…

I think it depends on the type of cooking spray, and which research you believe about good/bad fats. Anyway... Wow, that's tough. This will be a major life change if you're used to eating processed foods. You're gonna find you need to make most of your meals from scratch. I wish you luck! I have no food allergies, but I…

I thought about that, but I think there will be too many variables. For example, I can walk 1 mile in under 20 minutes on pavement, but 2 will take me 45-50 - not 40 as I would expect. I walk slower for longer distances to conserve energy. I also walk slower if I've had a hard day. And then there's snow and ice, and…
