  • I would find it really hard to cut out bread from my diet, it's just easy and filling to make a sandwich for lunch, however I probably would lose more weight if I did cut it out lol :P
  • I know what a participle adjective is, I did my degree in English Language & Linguistics. But it doesn't mean every word ending in -ing is one, and I don't think addicting counts :P I disagree that you can say "Television is addicting", so of course I also disagree that you can say "Television is very addicting" lol. Maybe…
  • It should be addictive. Addicting is a verb, not an adjective.
  • I think it's the bubbles for me actually, cos I can switch between Pepsi Max (caffeinated) and say Sprite Zero or 7Up Free (no caffeine) and be fine, but if I try to give up fizzy drinks altogether it's really hard. It's just hard to find drinks that aren't as boring as water but don't have loads of calories, that aren't…
  • At the risk of offending some people who have had the surgery, I do have quite a strong opinion on this and as far as I can tell, G-B surgery is in most cases unnecessary. It also requires just as much if not more willpower than dieting. Why can't people just pretend they have a gastric band, and stick to the diet that…
  • I think it depends on size but for an average sized banana most things I've looked at say around 100 calories.
  • Yeah, a few days isn't really a plateau, you need to give yourself time to lose the weight. If you're still the same weight in 2 weeks time, then take some action like upping the intensity of the exercise.
  • Hi! I just rode a bike today for the first time in a few years, hoping to get more into it and use it for commuting and exercise. Feel free to add me! :)
  • Well I don't think either are bad for you but to lose weight you need to cut back on calories, and you may need to cut back on carbs depending on how many you ate before. Like I was more of a crisps and bread person than sugar and chocolate, so I had to cut out a lot of carbs before my body would even THINK about losing…
  • Yep I agree! Cardio! I don't buy into these pills, they can do crazy stuff to your body.
  • It sounds a bit low to me, my net calorie goal is 1350 and I nearly always hit that. I would be starving if I didn't. But if you're exercising too and eating those calories back maybe it's okay...
  • No, because My Fitness Pal tells you to eat less calories than you need in the first place. If it's telling you to eat x calories per day, it has worked out that you actually need x + 400 calories (example) to MAINTAIN your current weight. So there is ALREADY a deficit in what it tells you to have - it's already taken off…
  • As a teenager, I don't think you should worry too much about fruit vs. vegetables. You will have a naturally higher metabolism than most of us so basically, as long as you're making healthier choices than you were before you should be fine. As someone else said, a piece of fruit is better than a burger or a bar of…
  • Basically your body has a minimum requirement for energy. Say you are trying to eat 1400 calories per day to lose weight (may be less or more for you). Your body might need 1800 calories a day just to function before exercise (example again). So by eating 1400 per day you are already 400 calories short. If you then burn…
  • lol =) One that annoys me is "At the end of the day". So overused.
  • This seems to be the most commonly asked question on here - people eating a tiny amount and then asking why they're not losing weight. As others have said it's because you're starving yourself and your body is clinging on to every bit of food it gets.
  • I dunno... whilst I'm not qualified to disagree with a doctor, I'm convinced that the pill was the catalyst for my weight gain, or at least part of it. I didn't change my diet or lifestyle, all that changed was that I was taking the pill, and I put on loads of weight. My doc told me it can increase your appetite... so it's…
  • Well I gained nearly 2 stone (28lbs) over 2 years on various pills. I had to keep switching to find a pill that didn't affect my weight or my mood and have now found the perfect one after trying about 5. Turned out it was the oestrogen affecting me, so I am now on the progesterone only mini pill which suits me fine.…
  • It is hard... don't forget you don't have to deny yourself everything completely though... if you want a bit of ice cream you could have some, but just only have one or two scoops, and work it into you calorie goal. You can try baking with low fat/ sugar ingredients... you can make cakes with a sugar substitute and low fat…
  • I haven't done it myself but I think it's a great idea, as there can be tons of calories in alcoholic drinks. I don't tend to drink much alcohol anyway unless it's a special occasion so it didn't really occur to me to give it up. It would be like me giving up strawberry gateau... something I hardly ever have. Good luck…
  • That's not good :( No real tips, other than willpower! You just have to not do it! There is no real secret to losing weight/ giving up the foods you love/ exercising more... it's just willpower, willpower and more willpower. Take some healthy snacks to work with you and don't let yourself eat anything else.
  • It's hard to tell someone else how often to exercise because you'll have your own capabilities and goals... but I try to exercise 5 times a week, normally for 45-60 minutes (fast uphill walking on a treadmill and stationary bike). If I don't do at least that much I feel like I'm not doing enough.
  • If it's only been a couple of weeks maybe you need to give it a bit longer? I think sometimes people have a problem with giving things time and give up because they don't see results straight away. I eat back my calories and I'm losing gradually, but I have really just started so I couldn't say. I would have thought that…
  • Weightwatchers ready meals... bleurgh! :P I saw this documentary on them and the stuff they were putting in as a substitute for fat was just like wallpaper paste :S I'd rather just have a grilled chicken breast and some veg... healthy and fresh.
  • Yeah it's worth going, if you think you'll like it you probably will. I went to a class a couple of weeks ago and have been meaning to go again. The people who do Zumba are not normally mega fitness freaks or anything, it's normally just people like you and me who want to lose a little weight or stay fit and have fun doing…
  • It depends what it's marinated in? But it sounds like you think it's not great for you and I would just trust that instinct. Doesn't mean you shouldn't eat it but maybe allow 100-200 extra calories on top of the amount in a regular skinless grilled chicken breast. That's a complete guesstimate though, obviously :)
  • I think it's okay to eat out sometimes because you have to change your lifestyle, not just diet for a few months. Which means it's not realistic to never eat in a restaurant again. You just have to make sure it doesn't have a massive impact by trying to choose the healthier options, or if you can't do that, do a workout in…
  • How does the saying go? "I may be fat, but you're ugly, and I can lose weight!" This moron is always going to be a moron. They are the type of person who would never be able to show the type of commitment you are showing to losing weight. At the end of the day, YOU will be the winner. Who cares about some random idiot?…
  • I have told a few people I am close to, my mum, dad, partner and a couple of friends. It helps me keep on track because as well as their support, I feel like they will be thinking about whether I have lost weight, and I want them to notice :)
