You could try a Fitbit with a heart rate monitor

I record it as an uphill walk (I always do a fast uphill walk on the treadmill) then I enter the calories manually. I often vary incline/speed on the machine so MFP can’t calculate accurately for me.

As you are diabetic I don’t know if people on here are qualified to give you the best advice. The best thing would be to see a doctor/ dietician and talk through what is best for you individually :)

Hi Hilla. It sounds like maybe for you calorie counting won’t be so helpful because you have a separate thing going on which is the binge eating. It might be worth first trying to get some help with that in real life by seeing a professional/ counsellor. Logging your food isn't gonna be helpful for you right now because…

I'd be surprised if you still felt gassy or bloated at midnight if you drank a can of coke at noon. But, as others have said, everyone is different and you can't know unless you try. I enjoy diet coke but am cutting back recently because I've noticed feeling uncomfortable after drinking it for half an hour or so. This…

It's getting the motivation to start the uphill climb that is hardest. Once you're on the way it's not as bad as you thought it would be. Personally I find it very, VERY hard to get going with calorie counting/ exercise, but once I have started and can feel some small results, it gets a lot easier to stay with it.

I just got some airpods and they are amazing. I haven't found anything better and it's so convenient that they don't have wires. Expensive though.

Fruit is pretty high in sugar so you have to be careful with it sometimes. But the MFP method is that if it fits into your calories it's OK. If tracking the sugar content is important to you, you can add it on your diary columns to make sure you're not having too much. It also depends what your goals are though, and what…

I gained about 6lbs and was gutted because I was already overweight. But that's why I'm on here to start losing it! Also looking for friends if anyone wants to add me :)

Hey, my diary is open to friends, feel free to add me, I would also like friends who share diaries :) I'm in the UK also

I’m just glad that the government are drawing attention to the issue. I don’t think anything that is realistically doable at the moment is going to ‘solve’ our obesity problem, but I think these are good steps in the right direction. I think some people will be surprised to find out how many calories are in alcoholic…

Getting through to lunch without snacking!

This is so inspiring. I am at a similar place to your start pic and this is helping me see the hopeful end results if I can stick with it. Thank you and well done

Congratulations on your loss - that is amazing! and thank you for the very thoughtful reply. It's just what I needed to hear. You are right about the knowledge and experience gained from previous attempts. I know what works - it's just a case of doing it. Thank you so much for the kind words and belief - I am in a much…

I am gonna be really annoying and say you are the only one who can decide! If you feel unhealthy and less confident than you would like then maybe it would be a good idea. But you would need to go very carefully if you've suffered with an eating disorder in the past and make sure you are getting some support with it…

Hey! I'm the same age as you, also in the UK... and also a serial starter on MFP! I have put on some weight in lockdown and have quite a lot to lose (my BMI is 33) but I find it overwhelming to think of big numbers! So I am just doing logging and exercise and hopefully that will help for a start.

You could look at it this way... You are a step further along than you were before you went to the park, because now you know that you want to change :) The mindset is the biggest and hardest thing to change! Good luck. You can do it x

Chocolate and chips (fries to US people!)

Yes I have the same - worst time for me is a couple of days before my period. I have only recently noticed this connection though so hopefully in future I'll be able to plan better for it!

Water is probably the best thing to hydrate your body. Having said that, I love Pepsi max and I'm not planning to give it up any time soon :) I don't know much about the science one way or another - there seem to be so many opposing 'facts' and opinions flying around! - but I find that these things in moderation are fine.…

Apples have about 60-120 calories depending on the size. There's not really any such thing as a zero calorie food, although I guess you could try ice cubes ! ;)

Nice Doodle, Canes :)

Brighton here - feel free to add! Always looking for more UK friends :)

Maybe you're pushing yourself too much. Do it at a level you can manage. I for example can't run - I know I can't - it just does my knees in if I try. So I do something at my level - an uphill walk, fairly quickly. I still burn a fair amount of calories with that, and it's easier for me to manage. You just have to find the…

I'm reading Robin Hobb's Farseer Trilogy. It's amazing :)

I felt the same when I first started at the gym, I was quite self conscious (I am overweight too), but honestly, people tend to be more focused on their own workouts than looking at others. Also, you will most likely see other people at the gym who are overweight and don't have perfect bodies, that's what they are there…

Oh wow, thanks for explaining canadianlbs, I have a lot to learn :) I will ask around at my gym about that too - I am seeing a personal trainer next week. And yes Okiludy getting enough sleep is something I am struggling with at the moment, but you're right, sometimes it's the simple things! Thank you x

No, I only log exercise that I do for the sake of exercising. Cleaning is just incidental and I'd have done it anyway.
-
I add walking as an exercise if it's more than I'd do on a normal day. My activity level on here is sedentary so if I go for a walk in the park just for the sake of walking and burning some calories, or if I actively choose to walk somewhere instead of taking the bus because it's better for me, I'll add it. I probably…

Well I guess I think a loser is someone who isn't achieving anything with their life... or isn't doing what they want to do... or isn't even trying... which means that no one on MFP is really a loser because we've all taken steps to do something to improve our lives - even if we're not always succeeding x
