Vismal, you are such an inspiration! I am also on my road to weight loss and my starting weight and would love some tips! Current Stats: Male:32 SW: 297. CW: 244 GW:176(according to ideal BW for 5'9 32 year old fella) BMR: 2047 Diet plan: Keto - 65%fat/30%protein/5%carbs Intake: ~1300 TDEE (using 3 months of weightloss +…

i try to do weight lifting twice a week to help a bit. Plus i am doing Keto and "supposedly" it doesnt kill muscle as bad as other diets due to different source of energy. The funny thing is i never really feel starved. Sure i feel hungry around mealtime but i dont have any urges to eat "something" other time of the day…

From my fitbit it says 46.5 for 3 months range. so 46.5 *3500 = 162750 burned? 90* 1300 = 117000 eaten.

It is in MY BELIEF that MOSTpeople gain weight to the point of going on a diet is because they can't control themselves, myself included. I think having a calorie counter is most helpful for me as it keeps me in check of how much i have put in my mouth and combining with a fitness tool like fitbit i can see how much i am…

I also lost a lot of weight from zumba and eating less. I think live instructor is best because it is really motivating and you can't "slack off" because everyone else are working. Plus the choreography is more fun and a lot more variation than the zumba videos. Always pick the tough instructors so the songs are intense…

My why is girl. Have a girl i like and she likes me even though i am overweight compared to some others who would ignore me. She herself is skinny, pretty and educated. She did give me a goal to work towards at saying for my health and our future i need to lose those pounds and although she didn't give me an ultimatum or…

^This. I think the moral of the story is to work out to one's abilities and use supplementary tools - pedometers, HRM etc. as a reference but maybe not try to adjust one's workout to it. I mean honestly if the HRM says i burn 200 calories in the 1 hr zumba session i do i will still do Zumba because the alternative…
-
it is interesting that you mentioned HIIT. Even though the HR reading might not be accurate like you said but the workout itself is beneficial for its increase in fat burning and VO2max right?
-
Thanks for the detailed analysis. I followed the instructions of doing 10 min warmup till 120 then kept at a pace for 20 min. So does the 11% only affect exercises that are constant not like zumba where there could be breaks etc?
-
ok so i did the walking test and my HRM records 241 but the calculator site records 271.... so there is 11% error. but the HRM calculated less than burned so what does that mean? does that mean at higher heart rate i could be +/- 11% accuracy?
-
I know i get sweaty pretty much within 2nd-3rd song which is within 10 minutes. if you see some of the videos it is pretty intense, even more so with so many others nearby. I will check out the treadmill test later today and bring back some results later to see how my HRM compares to it. Coincidentally i have my general…

no it was an hour long class. This is actually not official "Zumba" but called Sensazao (you can see youtube videos) which is a VA dance company. I say zumba because it is very zumba like except: 1. no slow songs 2. no breaks unless teaching a new step 3. high intensity - lots of jumping, kicking, squatting etc. 4. local…
-
just did an hour of zumba/sansazao today and according to heart rate monitor i burned a gross of 1045 calories or 940 or so net. apparently net is the one to look at since gross includes the "staying alive" calories your body expends during the workout. It is pretty good workout with average 153BPM which is 82% of my max…

cool. if anyone have any newbie questions i can try to help since i was one (maybe still am!)... i have been on it for 3 months now.

One thing i want to say is doing zumba with others is a lot more exciting than doing it yourself at home. Whether it be at a gym in a group setting (HIGHLY RECOMMEND) or with some pals it really motivates you - plus the extra benefit of doing it in a class setting is it is not repetitive. Doing it against a tv/dvd will get…

how do you guys use HRM for calorie counting? Do you set it to read HR and exercise as sprint or something? I have a HRM and it has Sprint and cycling. I do use my fitbit though and it is counting steps but usually 550ish per zumba session..
-
Yeah totally. Also as a sidenote, try to find "energetic" and engaging instructors. I hate instructors that come in and do everything like a "routine". Turn her/his back against the class never turning once and doesnt care if people have trouble with the moves nor show alternative easier moves. Needless to say i dont go…

i have done a low calorie diet and that certainly contributed to my weightloss but zumba is THE exercise i do 90% of the time per week and i know if there's any weight lost due to exercise that would be it. Also, before exercising i was a lazy slob and there's no motivation. With Zumba i am eager to go after work EVERYDAY…

zumba is totally dependent on moveset and instructor. I was able to "gym hop" golds gym and try out over a dozen zumba instructors and there are basically 3 types: 1. High intensity - instructor goes all out on all moves- a lot of jumping, jacks, crunches and even 'slow' songs the feet moves super fast. I find these…

I will try out 30 seconds intensity then 1minute rest X 9 with 3minwarm/cool and see how it goes.... As for intensity i tried my hardest on the eliptical to the point the machine was shaking when i was trying to step up to it. I will try to increase the resistance even further this time and see how it goes. So if HR is not…
-
so here's my confusion then - 1. if HIIT works best at ~90% HR then if i am there during that time regardless whether i want to vomit or have any energy left after that interval aren't i doint something right? 2. i saw many different workouts and the main theme is mostly: a. 20-30mins b. increase resistance/incline on…

Is your HIIT interval longer? maybe 30seconds or more? The plan i used is a modified tabata : http://www.wholeisticallyfit.com/2013/03/07/20-minute-tabata-style-hiit-elliptical-workout/ I didnt follow that to a T since i rested more though. Doesn't heart rate "indicate" how hard one's going though? I mean i am pretty sure…

The guy who wrote the story about it said "short term pain is better than long term pain" and he wanted to lose quick then sustain which i guess it is possible if he has the will to go through this? Honestly with my current keto plan i never feel hungry except after workout... But in the grand theme of things will IF lose…

I basically wanted more calorie deficit and the only exercise that wont get me "bored" is zumba and i look forward to it everyday. What type of efficiency can do to improve overall plan? I am on a 1300ish calorie diet right now and i i have dinner after i work out (the only time where I am "hungry") around 8ish.
-
My goal is to lose weight/burn fat and Zumba is one activity i find to "pass the time" and enjoy. I do 1-2 hrs a day doing zumba as my cardio and I average 150BPM. Good call on the intervals - I did feel I could push a little bit more but i was more relieved i could take a breather.... As for other exercises I havent…

I am actually starting HIIT too after reading that it has greater after burn effect on fat, expecially after weight lifting because the glucose gets depleted during weight training so HIIT will burn a lot more fat.. I am still trying to build a routine to include HIIT but idealy it will be: M: weights -> HIIT elliptical…
-
Well i dont have 100 pounds to lose now but i started needing to lose 120 so feel free to add me!
-
i think it ultimately depends on your body but like others said the more weight you have to lose the easier initially since the calorie deficit due to keto diet will be greater. I have lost 30+ lbs a week short of 3 months so it is more or less 10lbs/month. I am aiming to lose more per month and I am running 1200-1400…
-
i think it is for training and retaining muscle since it replenishes carbs. But some people argues it will only hurt Keto by either throwing people off of Keto or creating unnecessary energy to burn before fat burning occurs again..

i am diabetic and my a1c was <7 last time and that was before i started Keto. Doctor didnt even give me meds.. As for how my body feels... I honestly dont know!? I feel the same way as before i was on Keto but I was more or less on a low carb diet before then.. I get ~6 hours of "full sleep" wake up upon the alarm and i…
