  • Congratulations on starting the C25K! It really works! I finished it last August and since have done 3 10k, 1 15k and a half marathon. I am currently training for my first marathon. Hang in there when the going gets tough. You can do it and you will be a runner!
  • I am registered for the Portland Marathon. It will be my first and it is on my 42nd birthday. I am really excited and a little nervous! Have an 18 miler this week!
  • Don't change anything! If you do it before your long run, do it before the race. That way there are no surprises during the race. Do not add anything new unless you have previously tried it on a regular run.
  • There are several aspects that could change the number of calories burned. Each mile traveled--walking, jogging, running--will burn approximately 100 calories. If you run slower, you cover less distance in the time allotment so you burn fewer calories. Also, as you lose weight, the activity will burn fewer calories as it…
  • Ii lost 60 poounds and went from a 38DD to a 32DD. They are smaller but they are in proprotion to my thinner body. DH loves them not even thought they are smaller. I would not have minded losing a little more...
  • My favorite post workout snack is 1-2 hard boiled eggs. Great protein with good fats.
  • Anywhere. I prefer trails, but since that isn't always possible I do run in my neighborhood often. I love being able to just walk out the door and go. I run on bike paths often for the softer surface unless it is really busy then I move to the sidewalk. I am fortunate that there is an asphalt trail system that…
  • Muscles retain water to repair themselves. Don't worry about it.
  • I got back into running after 15 years by using the Couch to 5k program at coolrunning.com.
  • 9 miles in the glorious autumn sunshine. Sunny and 50 degrees--perfect running weather!
  • Katie, 4 miles in 27 minutes is great! Hope your little one feels better soon. I completely bonked on my run this evening. I tried to go too hard in my tempo run and ended up running out of gas. Cut short by a half mile total and by a full mile on the tempo portion. Oh well, I'll do better next time and not get anxious to…
  • 8.46 miles in the fog and cold. Great run! I get so excited on the days I run that I can hardly sleep.
  • I agree. All the sites really over estimate how many calories I burn in exercise. I love having a HRM to help me track more closely. I love the stats, too...
  • 8.63 miles this afternoon in horizontal rain. It was 65 though so nice so not too cold. Not like some of you do. I got a Garmin Forerunner 305. It runs off GPS to track miles, pace and more. It also has a HR monitor. I am interested to test it in my 10k on Saturday and see how it tracks on a measured course. Today it…
  • I used two methods. 1. I wanted to get back to the weight I was when I got married--135. 2. I checked with the BMI calculator and went ahead and chose to go with it as it was in the middle of my healthy BMI range. I am now at 132.5 and love my size. I had considered going lower, but am really happy where I am now.
  • No run today. Walked the dogs with DH and will do core workout this evening.
  • Find a running store in your town. A good running store will watch you run in several styles and find one that fits your stride and where you will run--trails, track or street.. They should not make you feel like less of a person for just starting out. I do that when I change shoes then often take what I learn and buy the…
  • Couch to 5K and the podcasts are what got me running again after 15 years. I am now running almost 20 miles a week and have done one 10k with another next weekend. I am registered for a 15k on Maui in January. My new addiction instead of food!
  • Just finished 7 miles of speed work on my treadmill downstairs. The thing is pointed into a corner with no air circulation and is so old the incline is stuck at 1.5%. I posted a Rave Run (Runner's World magazine) layout on the wall in front of me and a fan on the floor. I figure if I can run there I can run anywhere...
  • I am a firm believer in CBT! I have been on anti-depressants for many years, but without the CBT I would not be alive today. The two work so well in conjunction. The medication allowed me to get to a place where I could deal with the issues. I did gain weight, but I have also lost the weight while still on the meds. It can…
  • Tempo run tonight. Even with the increased distance of the main run, I felt really good and could have gone longer. Total of 6.57. 1 mile @ 11:45, 4 miles @ 10:20, 1 mile @ 11:19 plus warm/cool. Love tempo runs because I always seem to be able to do more than I think I can. I ordered a Garmin Forerunner 305 yesterday.…
  • Hi, I am new to MFP. Just started here last week after losing 60 pounds on Medifast. Loved running in the past and started again over the summer with the Couch to 5K program. Have a 10k next week and traveling to Maui in January for a 15k. Ran 4 miles of hill repeats this afternoon. Drizzle and wind, but I still conquered…
