  • Has nothing to do with your heart rate. When you were eating back your elliptical calories, how many calories were you eating per day? It comes down to how many calories are you eating vs how many calories are you burning. If you are not losing weight over 3-4 weeks, you are eating as many calories as you're burning. If…
  • I'm not saying that you are lying. I believe that you believe you are eating those foods in those quantities and they equal those calories. But the bottom line is that you are not eating as few calories as you think.
  • I think he's a supplement salesman dressed up as a fitness coach. I hate the long drawn out articles and their formatting (two sentences, image, bulleted points, another image, etc.) I also find it hard to take coaches seriously when their websites are plastered with pictures of them all shirtless and oiled up. I feel like…
  • Lol @ Shouty McShouterson screaming THEY ARE ZEALOTS.
  • Nobody on earth fails to lose fat because he is eating too little. That literally never happens. At your stats, the weight would be falling off you if you ate 1700-2000 calories per day. I will happily write out a week of food for you to eat that totals 2200 calories per day and if you were to eat those foods in the…
  • Could you move your calories around a bit and eat a snack an hour or so before gym? Or even on the way to the gym?
  • How many calories are you eating (not netting) each day? Edit: Just looked at your diary. No, you're not required to cut out all "junk" but your diet is terrible. Completely unbalanced. If you actually are looking for long term health, start educating yourself on how to eat a balanced diet (myplate.gov is a good starting…
  • Two others I like are 90 Degree by reflex and Marika brand. You can find both at Marshall's and on Amazon. I like them because they have high waisted versions. As far as I know they are not see-through. I've pulled them tight and held my hand up to them but I've never really tested that because I workout at home and I…
  • One week without a loss is normal. Be sure your scale's batteries aren't dying and other than that, keep being patient. No, diet coke is not hindering your weight loss.
  • I've always like Tek Gear from Kohl's. The line called Body Shaping (or something like that) have high waisted pants.
  • I am not at all a fan of that program for a beginner. (And I admit I'm not a fan of MM in general.) If you want to do it, it doesn't really matter if you do 5 days in a row and take two off or do one day of work, 1 day of rest, 4 days of work 1 day of rest or any other iteration.
  • Depends on the source of stress. If it's something that I have the power to change, I work on changing it. If it's not, I try to adjust other parts of my life in order to account for/make room for that stress.
  • If you haven't been lifting, start now and eat at maintenance. As your progress slows/gets stuck (i.e., newbie gains come to an end) start eating slightly over maintenance.
  • I'm not sure I understand why you are feeling discouraged. How long have you been using the app this time? I can't tell if you've been losing the app for a month or just working out for a month. Because 30 lbs is a lot to lose in a month and my hunch is if you think it's a good rate of loss, your definition of "no longer…
  • 1500-2000 mg is fine
  • What do you mean by not being home much? Are you traveling out of town most days of the week? Or working long hours? Something else?
  • Ha, I see.
  • I don't really get the ick factor. I mean, we use the hotel's towels and washcloths, which likely have already been scrubbed/rubbed all over other people's naked bodies plenty. Those are washed between guests and the athletic clothes/shoes have been washed/sanitized too. Plus with the shoes you're wearing socks.
  • You may find that the cardio will cut into your recovery on Starting Strength's novice LP. In my experience, being able to run for 30-40 minutes wasn't a big help when it came to squatting. Just keep in mind that your LP may end sooner due to the cardio. It's not the end of the world but don't be surprised if it happens.
  • That would be a great feature. My scale only displays one at a time and you can't switch from one to the other without zeroing it out.
  • You cannot lose weight if you eat more than one serving of strawberries per day.

  • I've been in a Westin and saw the info about this. At the time I didn't use it but I wouldn't have a problem trying it out. To me it's like using bowling shoes from the bowling alley.
  • You will feel a ton better even losing the 30 lbs. Best of luck to you!

  • Yes, go see a doctor.
  • If you are just starting to diet, you could probably lose 30-40ish pounds in the next 3 months. That assumes a 1% of bodyweight loss per week totaling 32 lbs (generally this is considered "safe") and a several pound big loss in the first couple of weeks (water weight.) More than that would likely be very difficult as well…

  • Milk, yogurt, cheese, eggs. The diet is a bit vague. Most foods contain more than one macronutrient (e.g., milk has all three as long as you don't get fat free, avocadoes have a significant amount of fat plus some protein and a middling amount of carbs, heck even my animal crackers have protein in them.)
in Question Comment by jemhh August 2018
  • Yes. That definitely happens.
  • Regarding lifestyle change vs diet... Five years ago I was extremely sedentary and ate a high-calorie non nutrionally-balanced diet. When I decided I didn't want to do that anymore, I made an effort to be more active and eat an appropriate number of calories within a balanced diet. That, to me, was a lifestyle change. When…
  • You're already very light. Taking 3 months to lose 6-7 lbs is reasonable. As for not being able to lift much--that's completely normal for an untrained person. Remember that strength training is training done in order to get stronger. Think of it like piano lessons. When you first start piano lessons you're not expected to…
  • Yes, yes I am
