I had Achilles tendinitis and, like @_BlahBlah_BlackSheep_, I never stopped using the body part or working out. My doctor told me not to and my PT said that if my pain got to a 4 (I think that's what it was) to pull back a bit but not to stop lifting. I did have to stop wearing high heels for awhile but 4-6 weeks of PT 2-3…

It's extremely rare to not be able to find anything at all to fit in my calories from a restaurant or work dinner. Just look for grilled meat (as mentioned) and vegetables.

"I understand that you're supposed to drum up attendance for them but I have absolutely no interest in going to an exercise class. And frankly, all of the badgering me about joining one is turning me off of this place in general. I like to come in, do my workout while being minimally social, and go. I don't want to be in a…

Unless people are being pushy, I wouldn't ask them not to talk about it. I'd just change the subject. Example: Friend: You've lost weight! Me: I have. What's new with you?

Oh, I get it. I've had a few months of not great workout scheduling and right when I was getting back to it, my home gym partially flooded and I had no equipment for a week or so. It stinks when your momentum is disrupted!

Sleep if you need to. A few days off isn't going to hurt in the long run, as long as you get back to it after that

Yes!

Do you have a partner or are you solo parenting? I'm a mom to an only child and my husband and I both work full time. A home gym and a husband who sees the value in me having workout time alone have been key for me. Also, I'm a firm believer in teaching kids that they are not the center of the universe and there are times…

Okey dokey. Yeah, I'd see a doctor.

Don't eat those foods. And don't drink so much water.

I've never once seen any evidence that weight loss is linear when you are consistent. False. Scale number going up is due to weight gain. It is the very definition of weight gain. If a woman's water weight is fluctuating by 5+ lbs throughout her cycle, her weight loss is unlikely to be linear no matter how consistent and…

Is rebounding in there? I've heard it referred to as such.

Out of curiosity, how many reps/sets are you doing? I'm wondering if you might be going gung ho, volume-wise.

I would get checked out to be sure you're not injured. After that, I'd have an appointment with a trainer so you can work on form. In general, increased frequency does help with DOMS but if you're doing a squatting movement twice a week, you shouldn't be hurting that much. Most people find that DOMS is minimal after the…

What kind of work do you do?

I'm not a fan of the program in that book as I think it is unnecessarily fussy/complicated/split up for a beginner. I would stick with one of the others that you mentioned. Two other programs that I think are good are the A Workout Routine beginner program and Fierce 5 beginner program (both google-able and the latter has…

It seems like you probably get in a lot of movement during your normal everyday life. In your place, I would likely just purchase a set of adjustable dumbbells and do a full body workout with them twice a week. That's it.

I would start out with walking. Pick 3 days (e.g., Mon/Wed/Fri) and walk for 10-15 minutes. Next week add 2-5 minutes to your walk. Continue adding a few minutes each week or, when you are up to it, add another day of walking. Aim to get to the point where you're walking for 30-45 minutes. If you can only walk inside your…

Eat them if you want to. Don't eat them if you don't want to.

It's two evenings of you being out later. And it's not even that late, considering that he has class those evenings too. How is he going to handle it if you work different shifts or different days in the future? When I married my husband, he was in school going toward a career that would likely have involved 8a-5p office…

How many days per week do you go to the gym? That's my biggest question. While I understand wanting to spend time together but you don't have to spend every moment together.

Just sign up for it and be a voluntary loser. My work does these step challenges all the time and it's not a big deal if you don't hit the 10k steps. Would it really big that big a deal to join and only log as many steps as you get in a normal day?

I agree with this. My experience is that I started at 202 and it took losing 30 lbs for anybody else to notice anything. I think that since you started at a bigger size, it will take proportionally longer for people who see you regularly to notice. People who don't see you often will probably notice sooner. That being…

Set some rules for yourself and then follow them. I would ask your parents what the plans are for the week. Find out if you're going to be visiting your grandma whose cake you can't pass up, the hometown restaurant that has great BBQ, etc. Then plan around those things but understand that going slightly off plan is okay.…

I like upper/lower and do that most of the year. I spend 60-75 min on each session. I use a program from Andy Baker called Strength and Mass Over 40 (made a few customizations.)
