I'll be watching for advice on this also as I'm going on vacation in July with my family, including two teenage boys who can eat whatever they want and burn it off without breaking a sweat.

I agree with a lot of the advice I see so far - both for and against. Huskies (or any large dog) take a lot of care: exercise, brushing, scooping, etc. but they are very loveable and want to have a relationship with their owners. One thing I haven't seen mentioned yet it: How do your parents feel about having a large dog…

Do you have exercise video you can do while the kids are playing well? A treadmill at home? Stairs you can climb? Ok, honestly, I would read a book, but exercise of some kind is better for your body. and, by the way, great job staying out of the kitchen!

A couple of ideas. First, I recently read that imagining eating something gives the brain the same pleasure as actually eating it. I don't know whether it would work for a serious craving or not, but it does seem to work for me when I'm hemming and hawing about whether to eat something. (Even if it's just all in my head,…

looking better is really what it's all about - Way to Go!

Some people are "morning people" (we hate them) and some people just aren't. That said, if you are dedicated to a.m. workouts, or need to get up because of a job, etc. you might consider trying a "happy light." Different people respond to them differently, but it really works for me! After 3 - 4 days of being in front of…

Welcome! It's great that you and your wife are doing it together! That will set you up for success having someone to support you, spur you on and be accountable to. good luck!

Posting my weight this morning. I've never done a challenge like this so please tell me if I'm not doing things correctly for the posts / chart. One thing that works for me in summer when I have more time (I teach school) is to allow myself to eat it AFTER I go burn off the calories that it is. If the bag of chips (let's be honest - I know I'm going to eat the whole thing) is 400 calories, then I can eat the chips after I go walking to the tune of 400 calories.…

Weight training (strength training) is a good way to boost metabolism since more muscle burns more calories to maintain. Also, I checked the McDonalds nutrition and the strawberry lemonade isn't on there – probably because it's a seasonal item – but I read an article last month on the worst summer fast foods and the McD…

Congratulations! That's awesome!

I'm trying to make a lifestyle change that I can live with that will help me loose, so I log as I go. I know I'm not going to spend my life planning all my food in advance, so I'm not doing that now. But I am buying healthy stuff so that when I go to look for something to eat, there are healthy choices in the house. The…

hmmm. I've heard that its better NOT to eat before exercising so that you burn fuel already on your body, rather than just burning the food you just age for fuel. Guess I'd better poke around on the internet some . . .

they are delicious baked, but when fully cooked they will "leak" syrup (not added - their own natural "juice") so put them on a pan or wrap in foil. Also, since they take a little longer to cook than white potatoes, if they're not done when your other oven food is ready, you can microwave them for the last few minutes. But…

Good for you! You made a great healthy lifestyle choice in the face of Real Life. When you're over you cold it will get even easier. Hang in there! (by the way, what is NSV?)

Congratulations!

I've experienced this with other exercise and my understanding is that our bodies get accustomed to an exercise, those muscles get toned for being used that way, and we become more efficient. Change it up. Do something different that uses different muscles or uses them in a different way. You might also consider taking up…

It's been a long time since dinner! Consider planning a healthy snack so you don't end up raiding the pantry for junk food.

I need technical help here -- when I click on your profile, I don't see a way to read your blog. Can you help me?

Things I'd rather eat than a Krispy Kreme doughnut: steak baklava bread with butter my favorite candy bar full strength latte how about you'all?

I agree with this. It's best to say something yourself before "sic'ing" the boss on her. It may be awkward at first, but she'll probably respect you for it after the initial embarrassment wears off. If not, then go up the chain of command at your workplace.
-
Thanks for the post, Joy, and welcome. If you want accountability from a real person instead of just the computer, feel free to friend me. My husband was impressed when I "logged" my baklava yesterday, but I assured him, and you as well, that part of the point of this program is to be honest with myself. If I'm going to…

Your new, healthier, lifestyle is Awesome! I'm so impressed! This is the right time of life to make those good habits and loose the weight. (wish I'd done it 30 years ago) but I caution you against trying to lose 50 pounds in 3 months. That doesn't sound healthy to me. I suggest that you set a more reasonable goal - like 2…

I am also addicted to sugar when I'm eating it. When I can go 3 days without eating any refined sugar (torture!) then it gets easier to "just say no." But as soon as I eat some, then I'm back on the downward spiral again. It's a good thing I don't drink, because I'd probably get addicted fast . . .

Personally, I prefer the slim build. But looking at that guy's neck and your neck, I'm not sure it will work for you. Definately not the "solid" build for me. (That guy is getting too close to needing a bra.) I'm impressed with your backside picture - you would feel great to hug!

I exercise in the mornings, but I find it makes a big difference if I also go for a walk after dinner. Serious sweat in the morning, just a stroll or leisurely bike ride in the evening. Seems to put me over the edge to make the scale budge in the morning. Good Luck!

You look much younger! perhaps weightloss is the fountain of youth!

I find that if I can get myself off the sugar for about 3 days (torture!) then I don't crave the sugar so much. Same with carbs. But once I eat more than a lifesaver or two of sugar - or a food that is mainly sugar, or has a lot - I'm doomed to the sugar craving again.
