I dont mind running in light rain/drizzle. I never run in heavy downpours (I just find it miserable), side ways rain with strong winds (no thanks). Some of the roads surfaces can get a bit slippy when wet which ruins my pace.

Sony NW-WS413 Waterproof All-in-One MP3 Player, comes in 4GB or 8GB, theres also a bluetooth version. It fits comfortably for me when I'm running and I like that there's no dangling cord. https://amazon.co.uk/dp/B01BBWU834/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pd_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=1EP052VA4EIV3&coliid=I3NTV3NC3FWVFZ&psc=1

I run 5-7k with my dog, mostly off the leash. Mentally I find it easier than running on my own. She's built for sprinting but trots beside me when she wants to take a breather from running on ahead of me, stopping to smell something and then sprinting to catch up with me. One run involves 2k on a road so she stays on a…

Why do you want your dog to bulk up? Are you using the dog for fighting, pulling a sled or just want to look cool with a lump of muscle at the end of a dog lead? You need to bring your dog to a vet if you are concerned about its weight. End of.

I see plenty of younger people walking for exercise. If you feel that you want to run, there's plenty of advice above on starting c25k. I completed it aged 47, having never ran for longer than 5 minutes in my life.

How about some good advice

Mio wrist HRMs are water resistant to 30m. Cheapest is about 99USD. Mine links to endomondo and then to MFP.

10 months after finishing c25k, I signed up for a 10k. I was running 5k three times a week. To increase my distance I ran 5K or 6K twice a week and I added an additional 1K or so, to my third run. After 5 weeks I ran 12K for the very first time. Mentally I found increasing from 5K to 6K the most difficult as I was so…

I prefer to use metric units but do find cup measurements for homemade dishes handy as best estimate particularly when I havent weighed my food or cant find a metric entry.

Yes, dont feel guilty if you dont follow the schedule exactly. Twice, I dropped back a week or adjusted the run lenghts towards the end. It took me 3-4 weeks longer than scheduled.

This academic has a book to publicise. As with most topics researchers will differ, depending on their biases. He probably has some research to back up his hypothesis but as Twain quoted 'There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics'. Results can be manipulated to fit a hypothesis. It was accepted that…

I have the Mio Alpha for about 12 months. I use it for running and it synchs perfectly with endomondo on my phone. Sometimes it doesnt detect a heart rate on the first - it gets it on the second attempt - so I tend to activate it when I'm warming up just to make sure its ready when I run. This happens maybe 1 in every 20…

If your doctor clears you for exercise, make an appointment with a physio and see what exercises you should be doing. Best of luck.

I'm also turning 50 and I had rods in my lumbar for two years (2010-2012) following an accident. After about a year I was able to use a gym - I went to a physio and used machines in my gym that were similar to those in the physio's clinic. I also had two sessions with a good instructor in the gym when I started. I had the…

Thanks for this post. I saw the Sundays live twice, have their 3 albums, love them. Through the magic of the internet I discovered this song was released on the US album release only - I have the european release. Thanks for posting this, I just purchased it from itunes and am now looking for a US release of Blind on CD.

I attended a pilates class provided by the physios in my local hospital, aimed spcefically at out patients with back issues. Look for qualified physios offering pilates in your area. I think they will have a greater appreciation for the most beneficial exercises and also any exercises you should avoid. I had lower back…

But some people dont have a choice. My son has mild asthma. He runs with me and a few times during the summer he had to stop when out on a run. He takes his inhalers on the day of a run and brings on with him each time he exercises. Generally its not an issue for him and he hasnt had to stop during a 5-7k run for the past…

I have lower back problems and use weight machines that give back or chest support depending on the type of movement involved. Some of the equipment in the gym I use, is identical to my physio's and I also got two sessions with a personal trainer in the gym on how to use suitable equipment properly. I dont use heavier free…
