  • The Nom Nom Paleo recipe for spinach-prosciutto "muffins" is easy to make. We keep them on hand for quick, no carb breakfasts or snacks.
  • Good morning, all. Reading everyone's updates makes me proud of us 50+ MFP-ers. We have a lot of things to take care of (((hugs to all))) but we still find time and motivation to take care of ourselves as well! I'm celebrating 3 days of logging in, posting my food diary, and exercising after a hiatus of a few months. This…
  • Sylvia, this is possibly going to sound strange, but it really works for bug bites and may work for poison oak/ivy if that is what it turns out to be. It's an old Native American remedy I learned from a botany professor that I have used for kissing bug, red ant, bee, wasp, sand flea and mosquito bites: Make a poultice out…
  • Hi all, I'm essentially a newbie to this group, baking away here in CA's High Desert foothills, lol. Even at over 4000 ft elevation it's still 107 degrees today! Mountain biking and hiking are on hold 'til it cools down a bit. My goals for September are: Log in and post to MFP everyday Yoga 2X per week (joining a new…
  • Wow, you are freakin' adorable!!! You look so happy and filled with youthful exuberance. Way to go!
  • My husband uses this setup: http://www.perfectpickler.com/ Excellent results! Figure out a way to keep fingers out of jars.
  • I've got 10 - 15 lbs to go, so I'm far from "skinny." But even though I'm not at my goal weight, it is wonderful to not be embarrassed to walk into a room full of people now. I'm not automatically the fattest one there. I no longer need to spend a lot of time worrying about my weight or how others are judging me, which…
  • I feel for you. I'm in a similar situation, every month it's something new. Unlike you I am able to ride the stationary & mtn bike. I also use resistance bands and free weights which aren't cardio but help my feel better when my body is crying out for some form of exercise. Since cardio is just one facet of fitness, maybe…
  • Hi, I'm starting again as well and can use all the support a lapsed but repentant Paleo/Primal girl can get! What a great group. I've gained 7+ pounds due to adding in grains more and more as well as not getting the exercise I was getting (lots of excuses, some valid and some not.) My thyroid meds were lowered also. Jeans…

  • My body reacts almost immediately to sugar with symptoms such as itchy mouth, lowered immunity and lightheadedness. I can almost count on catching whatever bug is going around if I succumb to sugar cravings, so I avoid it most of the time. Stevia and agave nectar don't give me the same reactions (even though agave nectar…
  • The first thing I noticed, within a few days, was increased energy. After that I realized my joint pain was gone as well as my brain fog and crankiness. After a few weeks my friends started noticing that my body was getting leaner. I didn't lose any weight, but I lost a couple of pants sizes.
  • Teresa, you look great! Like a mother/daughter photo...easily 20 years younger.
  • I know how you feel :) Two years ago when I got my new bike (my first in decades!) I wanted to sleep with it, lol. like a little kid after Christmas morn. My hubs and I have mountain bikes and a stationary bike, so actual mileage will look puny next to all the road warriors. Plus we're old. We try to ride every week or two…
  • Good for you! Sounds like you're doing all the right things. Best wishes.
  • My DH has joined MFP since his GP told him he should lose weight. He's in his late 50's but not menopausal lol, and has been losing weight slowly but surely. He's looking really good and feels much better than he has in years. I've been seeing a PT for my meniscal knee issues and she told me I was very fit for my age. She…
  • It's that feeling that keeps us going, enjoy it & remember it :) It'll keep happening as you continue to gain fitness and get out & about amongst people you haven't see for awhile. I'd gotten used to it after maintaining for a year, and was surprised when someone I know quite well but hadn't seen in a couple of years…

  • I'm with you! My head is clearer, I'm way less spacey, have tons more energy, less belly fat, my peeps at boot camp are amazed at how my body has become leaner and meaner. I've been gluten free for years but didn't feel this good until I started eating a primal diet. Love it!!
  • You look like you've lost more than 30 :) Nice! Isn't it great???
  • Good luck to you. I hope you can resolve this w/o any loss of the activities you love. I agree you should take it easy until you find out what you're dealing with. According to my MRI I'm dealing with a torn meniscus right now, and apparently my age is a factor in determining treatment (they want to alleviate my pain and…

  • I guess you'll probably have to figure out on your own what will make you feel better, if your endo is anything like mine. When I researched my symptoms it seemed as if a paleo/primal diet would be best for me, and so far I'm thrilled with the results. I also take some herbal thyroid support supplements. Good luck to you :)

  • In my younger days, just saying I was starting a diet was enough to make me want to eat everything that wasn't nailed down. For some reason MFP works for me. Maybe it came along right when I had "grown up" enough (I'm 61, lol) to realize that, as a previous poster said, this is a lifestyle change, not a short term crash…
  • There are those who believe that snack foods are purposefully laden with ingredients designed to make us want more & more & more. Do some reading, you'll be shocked. It's tough when you don't have control of the pantry but you've got to find a way if you truly want to get healthy & fit. What a challenge - you could write a…
  • ^^ This ^^ A food routine, as well. You'll figure out what works for you, but it's important to not get so hungry that you eat anything you find. Make sure you always have good, healthy food available.
  • You might want to try a South Beach-type plan for a couple of weeks to kick the sugar cravings to the curb. It really helped me get over my carb cravings & carb bingeing a few years ago. I'm not even tempted by sweets or baked goods anymore. (It would be nice if we could eat "just one" cookie but some of us cannot.)
  • Good to hear you're taking charge of your health. I hope you can get some helpful answers. Endocrinologists can be very data driven; mine was not concerned with my symptoms at all. She'd say "Get a space heater" when I complained of being cold all the time. I did some research, found info that seemed credible (there's a…

  • You are not the 3000 calories or the 100 pounds overweight or the food you just ate. Rather, you are an incredibly hardworking person who cares about himself and his health. You changed your eating/exercise habits and lost 100 pounds! True, if you give up you could gain it all back. That's a scary thought! But one day…
  • Hashi's here too, and the anti-inflammatory diet I follow (pretty much primal) has helped me immensely. Rarely do I suffer from aches and pains as I used to, and the other Hashi's symptoms are mostly gone as well. I take generic levothyroid and when I remember to do so (see? I said "mostly gone," lol), an herbal supplement…

  • http://www.provepeoplewrong.com/keep-doubting Do not let other people derail your efforts. Who knows why some people have to say negative things to us? Prove them wrong! It's usually about their own insecurities anyway.
  • I'm gluten-free as well and feel great on a no-grain diet. I hope you do too. Good luck!
  • I just wish I could figure out how to let my gray grow out w/o that awkward root line :(
