  • The "measure underbust and add 4" thing NEVER works for me. :( It always ends up with a band size that is far too big. I tend to take my underbust and add 2. That is comfortable, doesn't dig in or ride up in the back. I once had a professional fitting and they told me my (carefully calculated, by me) band size was too big,…
  • There's no one definition that I know of, but I tend to think of it as: from zero to 20g = very low, 21g to 80g = low 81g to 150g = just "watching" your carb intake. This is a wider range so a bit easier to stick to, but won't have the dramatic effects of the lower levels, I think.
  • I wonder about the calorie deficit thing, because my calorie intake shot up when I started induction-level carbs, and my weightloss increased. I mean going from like 1300 a day to 1800 a day and beyond. I still lose weight at around 3lb a week, sometimes more. I know I probably wouldn't if I had less to lose, but still.…
  • teagin2002 you are just stunning. Congratulations on your fantastic weight loss.
  • 58lb and 4 dress sizes down, I look in the mirror and see nothing different. I look down at my body and see nothing different. I have more energy, and when I took a photo a few days ago the difference was striking, but still. The woman in the mirror, and the body I look at, is as fat as ever. Sad, isn't it? I wonder why we…
  • 26.6kg down since June. Started with calorie counting and exercise, averaging around 1300kcal per day, but my metabolism slowed (at one point my heartrate was 45bpm) and so did the weightloss. It didn't stop outright though. From September I've been low carb (no bread, pasta, potatoes, rice), cut down on the running and…
  • I don't know cramernh, but from what I've read on here that crabbiness isn't usual. And yes, it did sound harsh. Caroline I've already commented on Minimins, but to reiterate for anyone who's interested, I got down to 1200kcal -1300kcal a day counting calories, and my weightloss began to slow. Once I started low carbing my…
  • "Associated with", the words the study uses, means exactly that- associated with. In other words, there is no proven pattern of cause and effect. In much the same way that seeing a firetruck at the scene of a fire might lead you to think that they caused the fire in the first place, an association simply doesn't tell you…
  • My understanding- and I ain't an expert- is that starvation mode does exist, but perhaps not as popularly imagined. In essence, if you starve the body, ie you reduce calorie intake to below what the body needs to run itself without using its own fuel sources, your body will compensate by slowing down your metabolism. You…
  • What we tend to forget is that the fruit we eat nowadays has been bred over hundreds of years to be many times sweeter than its wild form. Anyone who has seen tiny, tiny wild strawberries will know they bear very little resemblance to those we buy or grow. Arguments about the "natural" human diet need to take this into…
  • I absolutely agree with you. My post was aimed at the anti-coconut oil poster. I never claimed that *you* said it was a miracle weightloss aid, but some on the internet are touting it as such. I find it hard to believe that there is one single, simple food that will end all our woes, as some (salesmen?) seem to be saying;…
  • That's not a study, that's just someone's opinion. Plus, it says "overall effects on health can't be predicted just by the changes in LDL and HDL". Oh, and it also says "there's no problem using coconut oil occasionally". On top of that it doesn't say whether coconut oil raises LDLa or LDLb, which makes all the difference.…
  • I've set mine to get myself out of the "obese" BMI range, so it's above my recommended weight. This is mainly because I have so much to lose I want to have a goal that 's not too far away! I will probably carry on once I hit that goal, but I'm not particularly bothered by having a perfect BMI score because it's not a great…
  • My partner and I have been together 10 years, me veggie, him not. We simply cook different meals, and argue over who gets to go in the kitchen first! On special occasions or if I feel like it, I will prepare simple meat meals, but since I've been veggie since I was about 18 I haven't a clue how to cook meat, so it's…
