  • The opinion difference here is that you feel it's as simple as "Calories In, Calories Out", and think insulin is a bit of a scape goat in the scenario. I feel that it's more than just "Calories in, Calories Out", and that the hormonal impact of those calories goes a long way in determine the effect on the body.…
  • Ranger, Yes. By decreasing his calorie intake, it had the side effect of decreasing his carbohydrate intake. Again, it's not the absolute # of calories but the make up of calories that count more. You don't have to agree, I just have a difference of opinion than you on this.
  • Young, The Twinkie Diet guy lost weight because he cut his carb intake actually. His diet of Twinkies (and other food) ended up being lower carb intake than his "normal" diet. Here is an interesting take on analyzing that diet results: http://www.fathead-movie.com/index.php/2010/11/16/the-twinkie-diet/
  • Nutrition is not Thermodynamics. The makeup of the energy has an effect of the system in this case. Fat is not equal to protein is not equal to carbs. Intake in various quantities has different effects on the body, even if the calorie count was the same. This link explains it rather wel:…
  • We've been taught to "Watch Calories", but it really it should be "Watch Grams". Calories is a measure of energy, but nutrition is not a like for like result from those calories. Calories are not all the same, as 1 calorie of sugar will have a totally different impact on your health, than 1 calorie of fat. So "Watch Grams…
  • I have to wonder what is "Bad Fat" these days. It seems that more and more science is coming out that what we thought was "bad" is turning out to be pretty good. I think the only current villain is TransFat.
  • Coconut oil seems to give me more energy when I use in my diet.
  • Ha...I thought you were asking if we were taking steroids....phew! But seriously, Juicing to me always seemed like a bad idea. Fruit is a good idea because the good fiber helps you with the bad sugars. You get all the sugars, but eliminate the beneficial fiber aspect of fruit. I love dehydrated fruit, but that's just…
  • Many, many years ago...when I had my tongue pierced, I used t like to eat spaghetti O's. You could get them to sit on the ball in the tongue ring :) I don't think it will have any effect on eating. The first few weeks you are uber conscience of it and tend to go easy, but after that it's something you adapt too. You learn…
  • Grapeseed oil sounds like it might be ideal. I did see it at Target this weekend, but as you said it was very expensive. I'll see if I can find it at Trader Joe's, or if I'm lucky TJ Maxx sometimes have more gourmet oils for cheap. Does the Mayo made with Grapeseed oil have a greenish tint to it by chance? I read somewhere…
  • Thanks for the tip on the vinegar. I may have goofed and used white vinegar, thinking it was the same as white WINE vinegar. oops! The oil was pretty fresh, as I have cooked with it in other foods, but I was just overpowered by the intense olive taste I guess. Grapeseed oil? Does it have a lighter taste? I'll have to see…
