  • Also be aware that if you are using a fitness tracker like Fitbit, and linked it to MFP, it also does something called "negative calories" based on your activity. Basically if you are being less active than usual, it takes away calories. This can be turned off in Diary settings.
  • I'm not so sure it has NO carbs. It could be that the carbs in the serving size is below the required FDA nutritional label guidelines. IE if serving size is 1 drop and has 0 carbs, 2 drops might actually be 1 carb because combined it would meant the labeling requirements. I love hot and spicy food! One of my favorite…
  • Saint, I hear you on the treats/popsicles! My wife knows I'm a big popsicle fan, as I had an addiction to Lime Juice bars you can buy in the store :) Anyway, she bought me a Zoku popsicle maker which I make Heavy Cream pops now. http://www.zokuhome.com/pages/products-quickpop-maker So I mix Heavy Cream, Cocoa, or other…
  • "In fact, drinking more water, not less, can actually help to correct the problem. However, drinking alcohol can cause you to retain water. But unless you chronically abuse alcohol, water weight gain is usually only temporary. " Read more:…
  • Saint, Ok I just took a peek at the diary and here are some of my questions: 1 - How much weight are you intending on losing? What is your total body weight now? 1500 calories seems low to me, and I know when I went too low I was losing muscle weight and not fat weight. I have a goal of 2300 calories a day since that's…
  • EZSweetz = Sucralose = Splenda (I had to look it up, so I'd thought I'd mention it) I'm partial to Truvia which is Stevia/Erythrotol based.... But I'd skip the sweet n low. I don't think I've seen definitive proof it knocks you out, but if there is doubt I'd pass on it
  • Monkey, Then I wouldn't worry at all! I'm sure it's water weight then! I use a Tanita body composition scale, and it's an invaluable tool for diagnosing things like this. It measures Body fat%, Muscle Weight, and Water %. I can usually see if I'm retaining water, or if I've added muscle weight, but lost fat %. I guess my…
  • Monkey, Do you know if you are still in Ketosis? Drinking alcohol should just slow your fat burn down, not stop it. You could be retaining water however. Some more info here: http://fatstate.com/104/keto-lowcarb-alcohol/
  • I was ordering some Coconut Flour on Amazon today, and I noticed there was something called "TVP" for Textured Vegetable Protein. It appear to be a meat analogue, which I suppose might be useful for a vegetarian to focus on their protein? http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=TVP
  • Welcome to the Ketoverse! While I'm not a vegetarian, I know others have their reasons for why they wish to make that choice, and I think Keto is still possible. Since you've been lurking, you know the intent is to eat High Fat, Moderate Protein, and Low Carb in your nutrients. So let's see if we can come up with some idea…
  • I love the Net Carb Javascript which works great for review when I get back to a laptop, but I like the net carb remediator part since it displays in the mobile apps.
  • Hey Jim, When I go to your diary, I don't see the actual food entries, just the macro nutrients. Did you want input on those and not the items?
  • Don't worry about the trolls, as they are just intent on making your successes seem smaller so that they feel better about themselves. While I am on r/Keto, I don't remember this thread. Why were they attacking you? If you don't want to relive it here, I totally understand. And yes accountability is important, but I think…
  • Weight pounds can be deceiving, and unfortunately a poor way to judge progress. My weight hasn't shifted dramatically, but my body composition has. It seems my body type is to build muscle while burning more fat, so the body fat % has shifted instead. Also, for me, I think have been under eating unintentionally. I used to…
  • Hi All! I've been using FatSecret previously, but the r/Keto crew seems to focus on MFP, so I hopped over here. What really brought me over is the integration of FitBit and MFP now. Name: Jef Reddit Username: FatState Male/Female? - 34 Where ya from?: ChicagoLand Site: http://fatstate.com Those of you with a FitBit, make…
  • This topic gave me a really good idea actually..... I started a new site called "KetoFriends.com" for discussions between people on the Keto/Low-Carb Lifestyle. http://ketofriends.com Let's see if it takes off :)
  • Keto all the way here :) One thing I've heard about Ketostix is, that ketosis is like a light switch, you are either in it, or your not. The color range just measures the amount of ketones in the urine, which can vary. So the darker the ketostix, the more concentrated the ketones your body is expelling, which could mean…
  • Here is my post on the stuffed poblano peppers I made! They turned out very good for last minute prep http://fatstate.com/111/low-carb-stuffed-poblano-peppers/
  • Check out a Soda Stream, home Soda Maker. Essentially it's a home carbonator, but you can easily make carbonated beverages and control what you put in them. You can just put some fresh lemon or lime juice in, or a spot of strawberry, etc. If you like, mix in some Truvia, etc. http://www.sodastream.com/
  • Watch out for the Rice......otherwise it's damn good :) I was at a "Kaiten" Sushi restaurant a few weeks ago, where the sushi comes down a conveyor belt like a sushi train. You pick what looks good, and you are charged by the color of the plate. I had to eat the centers and the sliced fish, but leave the rice behind as…
  • I remember my mom would squirt some lemon juice on the exposed half of the apple to prevent it from turning brown as a kid in our lunch bags.

  • Depending on what your goals are, Fructose sugars in Fruit and refined white sugar both have a large effect on blood sugar levels, which drive your insulin production. In that case, Sugar is Sugar. Your body will metabolize them a bit differently, where refined sugar is more intensive, but the net effect is the same on…

  • Margarine known as Oleo used to be "White" and include yellow "coloring" packets to mix in, to give it that "butter like" color. From WikiPedia: "Margarine naturally appears white, or almost white, and by forbidding the addition of artificial coloring agents, legislators in some jurisdictions found that they could protect…
  • I was excited to find out from my wife that they included poblano peppers in our CSA haul today! I'm planning on stuffing them with seasoned beef, and baking them with mozzarella cheese for dinner tomorrow!
  • Shesnotthere, I am with you on that view. Type2 diabetes is very real and highly likely on a normal Carb diet, while the positive research for lowcarb seems to offer a better outcome for me. Everyone has their own goals and fears, so we all take a different approach.

  • Pepperoni slices nuked in the microwave till they are like crispy potato chips. Delicious and Carb free. Also take shredded cheese and fry it in coconut oil till its crispy. It comes out like a cheese crisp or cracker. Baby bell Gouda cheese is great
  • Low-Carb/Keto is a very different approach than the "balanced" view of nutrition. So Cholesterol (Not the bad guy we have been lead to believe) is actually improved in most people who go on low-carb/keto. It's counter intuitive, until you start to get a grasp fo the science behind it.

  • I eat upto 20g of carbs a day, and you'd be surprised how quickly the calories add up since you replace the carbs with increased fat and protein. The goal is to be in a state of Ketosis, which triggers the body to burn fat for energy instead of glucose. So, like today, I had alot of olive oil, coconut oil, a rib eye steak,…

  • You might need to increase your fat intake. Try adding Coconut oil to foods, or maybe some olive oil. Fat will keep you satiated longer than a larger amount of non-fat.
  • Ranger, Have you seen the "Big Fat Fiasco" speech before? It gives a good explanation of why Calorties in/Calories out is not entirely accurate. Specifically part 4. http://www.fathead-movie.com/index.php/2010/10/28/video-of-the-big-fat-fiasco-speech/
