My most consistent path in loosing or at least not gaining weight was persistent AND accurate logging of what I ate, portion management, and replacing a big lunch with smaller snack sized meals during my workday. In a perfect week I work out 4-5 days alternating weights and cardio - stationary bike and elliptical because…

I also have what I think is a balanced routine, 3 times of week of cardio and 2 to 3 times a week in the weight room. My fitness "barrier" is osteoarthritis in my right knee which has effectively killed my running routine. I have had to stop impact training and running and given up on half-marathons. I am also 6'5" and…

Hello Susan, Steve here. I am 52 (I think...) and have re-started MFP about a month ago. Always looking for fellow (almost) old people who are pursuing their fitness or weight goals and also facing the added challenged of not being quite as young as they would like to be :). Feel free to send me an MFP friend invite - the…

Hey, I just posted looking for some other "50ish" folks trying to loose those last 10-15 lbs. My current struggle is finding something to replace any kind of impact training - running, etc. I think my right knee is finally saying...enough is enough. While not much of a yo-yo dieter, cracking that final 15 pound has eluded…

Gary, What an inspirational story. I sent a link to my son (400+ lbs) who needs to find his own ah-ha moment and make up his mind to start his own path on getting healthier. My wife and I struggle everyday to try and help him make healthy decisions. There are so many things we see him missing out on because of his size and…

My quote means that I need to set an example for my family - can not expect them to loose weight and pursue a healthier unless I set the example.

Am I missing something?

What an inspiration. Congratulations

Fifty-ers unite! Not really that bad. Kids are older so more spare time to actually dedicate to myself. Like it has been said - 50 is the new 30!

Sounds like a similar story all the way around. I enjoy my own success, not so much in big numbers lost but lifting more, running farther, lowering my body fat. Family, especailly my wife and son struggle with weight and while not nasty about it, do not share in my accomplishments because of their struggles. My bottom line…

Hi Carla, Also 50, married and working full time trying to stick to a healthier life style and also looking for more friends to share that journey. I say 50 is the new 30...well at least I can dream! Steve

Feel free to add me. Try to check in and update daily. Tell us a little bit more about yourself!

Wow, this one has touched a nerve! MFP has shown me how to make better (but not perfect) choices on what to eat. I like Pizza so instead of getting a Pizza Hut Meat Lovers Pan Pizza and eating 3 or 4 slices, I get a Thin and Crispy with 1 topping at eat 1 or 2 slices with a salad or fruit. I actually like to see a diary…

Thanks. Need an alternative to chips...can't just stop at 1!

Wow. Very inspirational. I will show this to my son, he needs some motivation.

Wifey doesn't like to cook but when she does it is fabulous. She doesn't like taking the time to prep and then clean up. I like to cook but family prefers the basics and I like to spice things up a bit. I have suggested on many occasions each of us take one night to make dinner. My son likes to cook and between jobs/school…

The January rush at the YMCA is dwindling and I am still here! But I do so love kettle chips...

My better half is more of a yo-yo exerciser. She does better on eating than I do but doesn't stick with a workout routine. Would like her to join MFP but as it has already been said, the motivation needs to come from her.

carbs before, protein after. Go with the power bagel and I have found that chocolate milk after works for me.
