This thread started in 2012 but has some recent stuff too, either way there are lots of pictures in it: https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/743399/5-52-girls-i-want-to-hear-your-story-and-pics/p1 Me? I'm 5'1 and lost about 68 pounds and have been maintaining for 5 months now. My weight range is 110-115.

Unfortunately, this is a very common misconception. In order to build muscle, you must eat at a surplus. That is not to say resistance training will not make you stronger, but getting stronger does not make you gain weight. It all boils down to eating too many calories if you are not losing weight.

Am I understanding this right - that you lost 7 pounds in two weeks, and you think that is slow? And you are hoping to lose 15 pounds in a month? My advice on how to stay motivated: You don't. Motivation comes and goes. You can't expect motivation to keep you on course. It's all about habits. Change your habits so when you…

So much awesome - my favorite pic is the one of you carrying your husband. Damn. So inspiring. Of course the bikini pics are pretty nice too.

This gives me hope - I also have osteopenia and am counting on resistance training to prevent it from progressing to osteoporosis.
-
You can absolutely resistance train at home! I started out with bodyweight stuff and dumb bells, and progressed to using a barbell and plates. Depending on your goals and preferences, you can use a bodyweight program like You Are Your Own Gym or Convict Conditioning, or use dumbbells without ever needing a barbell.

I love my Fitbit One, clip it on my pants and don't even know it's there. I have used the sleep feature but got depressed seeing how horrible my sleep is so rarely use it for that. It really motivates me to get my 10,000 steps in.

I really like this. We are so quick to say what someone is doing is not sustainable. But clearly for the OP, it was for 5 months, then as Yoovie said she probably experienced normal holiday backsliding. OP: keep it up, stay the course, be patient.

I haven't read all the comments, but the ones I did read sound like you have a great dialogue going on with a lot of inspiring success stories. I thought I'd add my own experience. While I am not in the age bracket your post states - I did lose 68 pounds while going through and reaching menopause (age 50-52, I am now 53).…

Great work! Congratulations!

Why does it need to be by the time you turn 40? What will happen if you turn 40 and you've only lost 35 pounds? Rather than focus on a particular day on the calendar, just focus on making progress towards your goal, however long it takes. It took me 2 1/2 years to lose 68 pounds. Sure, it would have been nice to lose it…

You don't say how long you have been at 137, but if you just hit that recently, your mind may need some time to catch up to what your body really looks like. I know for me, after losing 68 pounds, and now after 4 months at maintenance, I still haven't completely wrapped my head around what I really look like. It's getting…

I agree with others that it takes creating a habit, however, if you dislike the gym so much why not find a different way to workout? I do a combination of walking and hiking outdoors, yoga classes at a yoga studio, and lifting weights at home. Figure out what you would enjoy, or the least objectionable exercise to do, then…

Why do you want a substitute? Personally I use butter.

I crave less sweets when I meet my protein and fat goals, which I have set higher than MFP's default numbers (http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/819055). I also work "treats" into my diet on a regular basis so I don't feel deprived of what I love.

I'm 5'1 and at my highest weight of 178 was a size 18, my current weight of 110 I'm usually a 2 or a 0. I didn't keep track of sizes along the way.
-
Thanks for the update - and your loss is fantastic! You'll be out of the 300's in no time. Great job!
-
I am 5'1 and started at 178, am now 110. I started when I was 50 after being fat off and on my whole life. My pictures are on page 10 of this thread. YOU CAN DO IT!

This thread has a lot of pics - just not the measurements: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/743399/5-52-girls-i-want-to-hear-your-story-and-pics/p1

This is a great post on body fat estimation methods: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/830595

This is my take on it as well. Well, except the part about steaks :) But the idea is the same!

This is a great post: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/1161603/so-you-want-a-nice-stomach/p1

I lost at around 1500 until the last 20 pounds, then I ended up at 1350. I now maintain at around 1600.
-
I'm 5'1, and almost 53 years old. Weight went from 178 to 110.
-
Thank you for sharing your story. You look great and by the smile on your face I'm guessing you feel pretty great too! Great job, huge congrats to you.

Tagging so I can find it later. Oh wait, new forums......won't be able to find it.

I realize your original post was for ideas on how to get more calories in without more carbs. However, many people have given you great advice on ways to figure out why you must eat so low to lose or maintain. The post right above your last one (from TN239) was very detailed and helpful. I don't think this article you…

Rather than lower carbs that low, what about taking a look at your tracking accuracy? You mention in your original post that reduced calories don't work, however, it is very common to underestimate calories and overestimate exercise. You may want to weigh and measure everything for about 2-4 weeks, then reassess.
