how long can you go between weigh ins when trying to lose weight?
This may be a better topic for debate, but it really is related to weight loss. I've lost/regained/lost/regained a couple times in the past, and am really trying to analyze what went wrong previously. Part of it is I get *too* obsessed with what my weight is, either get way too restrictive because the weight is not coming…

Superfoot bill wallace
I got to work out yesterday with Superfoot Bill Wallace. It was awesome! If he ever comes near you to do a training class, I highly recommend it. I was a little lost at times, as an orange belt. I still struggle technically with the differences between wheel kick, side kick and roundhouse, and he was working under the…

Eek! 2 weeks until belt testing
My dojo is having belt testing in 2 weeks, and my instructor says I'm ready to test for orange. (Belt order: white, yellow, blue, orange). There is a lot more to know going from blue to orange than going from yellow to blue. I'm most worried about the mist advanced kata. Anyone else testing this month? Good luck!

under 10 lbs left to lose..switch to 0.5 lb/week weight loss?
I've seen a lot of people post about switching to half pound per week weight loss once under 10 lbs to lose. Pros? Cons? I think I am going to switch, in part because I'm really upping my fitness/exercise, and even though I eat back my exercise calories, I think I need a little more at baseline. I'm hoping I don't get…

Question for runners about long runs
I'm trying to increase my mileage, and also trying to be smarter about my training. Today, I used a heart rate monitor, and paid attention to that, rather than pace. Since this was my long run for the week, I targeted a HR zone of 3 (aeroobic training, about 60% mhr, can still talk). I ignored my pace, but felt slow. That…

The importance of tracking/logging
I went to the beach last weekend, and didn't track. I actually thought I had done a good job self regulating. Stepped on scale, gained almost 3 pounds in 4 days. I was astonished, because I really thought I had been reasonable. Then I thought back to what I ate. One day, I had TWO donuts for breakfast, a crabcake sandwich…

how beneficial are fitness trackers?
I've reached the 15lbs lost mark, and was thinking of buying a fitness tracker as a reward. but then I thought, what will I gain from it? I already have a basic garmin running watch (VERY basic, does not do HR monitoring, just distance/pace). I'm fairly active during the day on my job--walk around quite a bit, so don't…

Is this a sign I'm more fit, or am I deluding myself?
Last week and this week, I have not lost weight. I have been losing steadily for the past 2 months. The only thing I can think of is that my fitness level has increased to the point I'm burning fewer calories with the same exercises. I've always just logged my calories burned based on what MFP estimates for me, and it's…

Healthy BMI!
I've lost enough weight that I am now technically in the healthy range. And, yes, I so realize for athletes and really muscular people BMI is not useful. But I'm not muscular or athletic (yet!). I've still got a ways to go before I feel like I'm really at the healthiest weight for my body, but it's a nice milestone.

Need ideas for strength training at home
Hey all, I need some good ideas/links to plans for strength training at home. I have some free weights, and don't mind getting other equipment as needed. I run, and have started doing karate (my daughter made black belt, and I promised her I'd start when she made BB!), but need to up my strength training. I don't really…
