Flip flops
Has anyone else seen people at the gym on the treadmill or elliptical in flip flops? I'm not talking sandals with a strap to hold them on, but full-on flip flops. Wouldn't that just make it so much more difficult to work out? I don't get it.

Weird things nobody tells you about losing weight
Everyone talks about how great you'll feel, how awesome it is to fit into cuter clothes, how much more confidence you'll have, etc...but have you noticed that there are a few things people tend not to mention? For me, the biggest thing has been the changes in my body. I'm still fairly early on in my journey, but I've…

This confuses me...
So at my gym, there are a few people I routinely see on the elliptical (usually the ones with a bit more stair-stepping motion to them) on what appears to be low resistance, going as fast as they can. I was kind of curious...is there a point to this? Personally I get better results when I crank up the resistance a bit as…

You keep saying that word...
I do not think it means what you think it means. I've been on MFP for about three months now, and I love this website. So far, the only real down side I've seen is the massive amount of bad information on the forums. Yes, I understand that this is the nature of forums in general, but I do wish people would stop to check…

MFP Tips
So I'm not sure how many of our little group have just joined MFP, but I thought I'd start a thread with tips on how to get the best out of the website. If any others have been here for a while, they're welcome to add to this. The most important bit of advice, to me, would be: Beware of excercise calorie calculations. Many…

What's your favorite weight loss "problem"?
So as much as being overweight and/or out of shape causes problems, losing weight does as well. I was just wondering what people's 'favorite' problem has been. An obvious example would be having clothes that don't fit anymore, which is something I'm currently experiencing. Yes, I'm ecstatic to be losing weight, but I'm…

Am I the only one who gets really excited about milestones?
So I know that technically a pound is a pound, and that every pound lost gets me closer to my goal...but I just can't help getting excited over those little milestones. I was ecstatic the day the first number of the scale was a 1 instead of a 2, and right now I'm watching anxiously to see it go from 190.1 to 189.9 or…

Can any women recommend good gym shoes?
I welcome opinions from guys too, but I know that often shoe needs are different based on physiology. Currently I have an okay pair of cross-trainers, but I think they're just not tough enough for the beating I've been putting them through. My husband and I go to the gym Monday through Friday, usually doing some weights…

Introducing myself
I was really excited to find a bellydance group! Let's see...I'm 31, I've been dancing off and on for around eight years now (started with egyptian/cabaret, did some tribal fusion, etc) but have been dancing exclusively ATS for two years now. I live in the Seattle area, and we're fortunate to have an extremely talented and…

How fat is "THAT fat"?
Hoping this is in the right forum :) So the question is...where do we get this idea of "THAT fat"? By which I mean, when someone says they're going to the gym/dieting/etc to lose weight, and the response is "oh, you're not THAT fat". Or when you tell someone you're trying to lose weight because you're pre-diabetic and…
