New U.S. Dietary Guidelines committee report
I don't have much to say about it, as it's lengthy and I haven't had a chance to read it all, but I thought I'd just let people know that it's been released for comment, since I don't see any other posts about it yet. http://www.health.gov/dietaryguidelines/ The changes seem to include that sodium and saturated are the…

I'm "impressive"?!
The group exercise director at my gym was doing a PT session with a client near where I was doing my dead lifts, and I was actually discouraged because I had moved up 10 lbs and wasn't able to complete all the reps I had planned on any of my sets. Later, when she had finished with her client and I was doing lunges, she…

Will I get bulky if I lift while using a steroid inhalant for bronchitis?
:D Seriously, though, any thoughts about going back to the gym before one is completely recovered from something like this? This is the first time I've ever had (or been diagnosed with) bronchitis. I've only been to the gym once since this started nearly a month ago (before I was diagnosed, and thought it was just a cold),…

*****ake mushrooms -- are asterisks really necessary?
I've seen a couple of posts in this forum that use asterisks in spelling the Japanese-derived name of a certain Asian mushroom (also known as black forest mushroom). Will the site administrators pull posts that spell out the name of the mushroom (even if you spell it correctly, with double-i in the first syllable)? Or are…

Major Milestone
After feeling like my weight loss had stalled for the past six weeks so, I weighed in this morning with a 2 lb loss over last week, which has me at a BMI below 130 for the first time in at least a decade, and probably longer. According to the charts (U.S. and WHO), that make me merely overweight, and no longer obese!…

Fiber, macros, and calories
It's taken me a while to notice this, because I haven't yet mastered balancing all my macro goals for the day, but because package labels (in the U.S., anyway) apparently include fiber in total carbs but don't count them in figuring out calories, I can reach a point where I've met all my macro goals, but I still have 100…

How MFP sets exercise calories for a week?
It asks you how many exercise sessions you plan, and the length of time you'll be exercising, but it never asks about intensity, so where does it come up with the arbitrary numbers that it says you will/should burn from exercise? It lets me edit the number and change it the goal I want, but I'm curious where their number…

USDA nutrient database down - any other sources?
The U.S. Agriculture Department's online nutrient database is offline, presumably because of the lack of government appropriations. Does anybody have any non-government sites they use to check MFP database entries against?
