How MFP sets exercise calories for a week?

It asks you how many exercise sessions you plan, and the length of time you'll be exercising, but it never asks about intensity, so where does it come up with the arbitrary numbers that it says you will/should burn from exercise? It lets me edit the number and change it the goal I want, but I'm curious where their number comes from.

It doesn't. MFP only asks about exercise to set a goal for you in the exercise tab. It doesn't give you any calorie allowance for your workouts. You log exercise separately as you do it.

No, I know what OP is saying and I wondered that too. But, I think I understand it.

For example, I set a weekly goal of: I'd like to exercise 20 minutes 3x a week, but MFP suggests that for that goal I should burn X number of calories.

I assumed that the suggested calorie burn would be for a 'moderate effort' or 'moderate intensity' work out for my current weight / height calculation. Because I've noticed as I've lost weight that the suggested calorie burn for my weekly exercise goal has decreased.

Anyway, I'm not sure, but that's my assumption for the exercise estimate.

Yes, this is what I was asking about; I understand that it's not having an effect on my allotment for calories I can eat.

Thanks for this; I thought the MFP suggested burn was increasing for me as I lost weight, but I can't be sure, since I keep resetting it to what I want to aim for.
