'Fitspiration'
I'm scared. A good friend of mine regularly sends me 'fitspo' and it scares me. I'm all in favour of the 'Keep going! You go, girl! Work those crazy legs!' type of fitspo but what I have received recently is... wow. Thinspo. That's the word for it. Pictures of women in their pants with captions like 'Jealous?' and 'You can…

45lbs down...
... and it feels great! I put on rather a lot of weight during my PhD (no thanks to comfort food and being completely unmotivated to cook more than a pizza for dinner) and I need to shed it - it's not good to be so tubby. Here are some pics. Before: And now, after 45lbs lost:

Wedding Weight Loss
I am, like many of us here, trying to slim down for my wedding. Actually, that's a lie. I'm slimming because I was disgustingly overweight after my PhD. Having Bipolar doesn't help (psych meds make you FAT). So, ladies, how is the wedding loss going? Do you have inspiration (a dress, a honeymoon bikini)? I've lost 3st 4lbs…

Ideal workout?
I have just started going to the gym regularly again after a 4 year break (had cancer - workouts became rather low priority). I have a relatively good activity level but have no idea where to start. Today I did: - 7km stationary bike at moderate resistance - 5km treadmill at 6kmh and a moderate gradient - 17 minutes on the…

I've recently started going to a spinning class (okay, I've done one and I'm carrying on from here). The first one damn near killed me but I'm determined. Should I eat before the class? And how much before? And what sort thing? I'm new to exercise (beyond walking and swimming) and don't want to make myself ill by damaging…

Half way there...
When it finally dawned on me to lose weight, I was 17st. At 5ft8, that's very not good. I've been dieting healthily and doing plenty of exercise so I think 2st 7lbs in 4 months is pretty good. I'm posting some before and after pictures, mostly because I am so horrified I was ever that big in the first place it'll shock me…

Eating your exercise calories
I'm 3 weeks into a diet and exercise shake-up. 1290 calories a day and at least 30 minutes of exercise. My question is this - should I be eating the extra calories I 'earn' from exercise or not? I am wary about it because I don't want to undo all my good work, but at the same time it looks like the amount I'm eating is…
