I'm actually trying to gain, but I would still be around 500-600 for maintaining. My calorie maintenance is a little over 2,000 a day, which is probably higher than yours.2 -

I've gained some strength and muscle in my legs without traditional squats and deadlifts (though I did have some advanced bodyweight squats in my routine). It can certainly be done.3 -
