There is more stimulas to the muscles the more you rep in a set. So the benefits would be next to nothing if you only did one every hour if you could do 16 in one set.4 -

Did you up your volume at a slightly lower intensity? That alone will fix most strength loss or plateau while eating at a slight deficit. It lowers fatigue while driving progress.3
