Plateaus happen, and are normal. I use my plateaus (I've had more than I can count) as a motivator to work harder. They don't frustrate me anymore, they inspire me.4 -

By calorie counting - making sure I am eating at a deficit, I am 180lbs lighter than when I started. So it's been working pretty good for me.2 -

Smart phones as a whole are fairly accurate, as the technology for pedometers is relatively simple and most Smartphones and more advanced pedometers also use GPS to self calibrate.1
