Re: My weight
Hi Patty. I'm Jody. I've been on and off MFP for a long time lolβ¦. Good for you for looking for support and help in reaching your goal. We don't have to do it alone. Willpower and Will are very different. If you have The Will, then hopefully Willpower will follow. I feel logging in daily and knowing my caloric intake is important for me to stay focused and stay determined and motivated. Participating in the community can also help. I like to play the games here sometimes because it distracts me from wanting to munch out of boredom lol. You can get a lot of tips regarding food and exercise from the community and you will also make friends and have support. The more you do it, the easier it will be because you will love seeing results and you will feel fabulous mentally and physically. Do you exercise? Could you try and find a workout buddy that can help push each other and make it more enjoyable? I have been up and down my entire life really. I maintained it for four years but I am back again lol. I have 8 more to go. I lost 9 so far but it took a few months because I think I was stuck at a plateau, plus I'm 55 so that doesn't help LOL! If you have any questions about weight training, you can ask me. I'm pretty much a pro, being I've strength trained for over 15-20 years (on and off). If you have any questions about what foods to eat, or recipes, feel free to look at my diary. I usually eat a lot of plain bland food like grilled chicken and veggies, but I find that it's providing better results overall. I will see you in the threads I'm sure! Welcome!
Re: Just Give Me 10 Days - Round 294
What adorable babies. And Mom looks so sweet
I've always had German Shepherds, but my latest turned out to be descended from GSDs bred from Schafferhunde III dogs, with a lot of them bred for Czech border guard work. I didn't realize that, as European working titles aren't always on AKC pedigrees. It was only after I pulled a more detailed research pedigree that I realized why I had a super energy, high drive, Malinois type German Shepherd instead of a more laid back family dog. He's 2 1/2 now and settling down a bit from his velociraptor puppy hood, but it has not been, and still isn't an entirely easy journey.
Re: NEAT Improvement Strategies to Improve Weight Loss
I'm taking a "Bulletproof Knees" class at my Y. I don't know why I stupidly didn't realize this before, but there are 2 relevant exercises I can do almost any time I'm doing some standing-still thing at home.
They are:
- Heel raises
- Toe raises
No, I'm not doing those all day every day π, but I'm mixing them in.
If you're not used to doing standing toe raises, try it first near a counter or something you can grab in case your first attempt challenges balance.

Re: NEAT Improvement Strategies to Improve Weight Loss
Toe/heel raises are also miracle-workers for strengthening the muscles all around the lower leg and helping to lessen/prevent shin splints for runners. When doing the standing version becomes too easy, try walking for short distances.

Re: What is your exercise routine?
I do mostly cardio (walking 3 miles a day, running 6 miles 4-5 days a week, stationary bike once a week) but with occasional yoga, light weights, or calisthenics. It has allowed me to maintain a 50 pound loss for several years. I know I should be doing more weights, but find it very boring so usually skip it.

4/23 131.2 Well I guess the scale lied to me Monday and/or itβs lying to me this morning! Nothing is real until I get well established into my routine.Β
After almost 2+ years of daily tracking (and 11 years pretty consistently) I can state with certainty (for me) that two days of home food prep and knowing EXACTLY what enters my mouth (Whole Food / single ingredient) is THE difference. (Hydration and IF 18/6). Iβm sure the scale will bounce around as I continue moving forward.Β
Activity: yesterday was the first day I played tennis in 10 days & unfortunately, I injured myself. I am just beside myselfβ¦ My right tricep was killing me as well as my neck, back and shouldersβ¦ (maybe aggravated areas from my fall last week). Must be a combination of all the physical work at the property and using unfamiliar parts of my bodyβ¦ I went to bed in so much pain last night. I could barely move and then miraculously I woke up after a solid night sleep feeling fine βalmostβ except for my right tricepβ¦ Some things are just inexplicable.Β
Puffiness and brain fog starting to dissipate. Iβll lay off weights today and will go for a very long, long walk. Maybe two. DGS Chauffeur time this week!
Property update: What a roller coaster! Nothing yet from the βWe are going to buy your propertyβ neighborsβ¦ Strange. The roof is going on April 30 and we will list ASAP.
4/24 I woke up, feeling noΒ pain yesterday but as the morning progressed the pain returned. I decided to completely take the day off. Very little movement. πΆββοΈ6k steps getting organized, errands, completing property disclosure statements, Listing agreement, etc. chauffeured DGS and went to the grocery.Β Β Iβm better this morning, but I think I need to take another REST day from structured movement. Weβll try and get my steps in, pay attention to my posture, do some breathing work, π, healthy nutrition, and plenty of π¦π¦π¦. πββοΈ.Β
NSV: My body loves one ingredient, whole food, and plenty of hydration. The 4/20 spike is still a mysteryβ¦ I guess it was a combination of eating unfamiliar restaurant foods over a stretch of time and lack of hydration, TMI, cortisol, sleep, etc. Our bodies are fearfully and wonderfully made.Β
4/25 DNW this morning because I woke up once again WAY too earlyβ¦ Yesterday I was off track a little because I went to lunch with my tennis team. I was very good but had a handful of tater totsβ¦ Why? I donβt know they just looked so good! Very little movement yesterday and my back flared up around 7PM. It was painful sleeping. Ice works better than heat and Iβm feeling better this morning. Will take it easy AGAIN today. I think all this came from the jolt of the fall almost 2 weeks agoβ¦ I have another landmine tonight with my high school friends and Iβm planning on eating protein only.

I expected to go up, but this actually surprised me a bit. Maybe it will slap me in the face and wake me up.
Having said that I need to give myself a bit of grace. We had our traditional comfort Easter foods yesterday with candy mixed in all day. DS brought cheesy potatoes, green been casserole, and home-made baklava. I smoked a spiral cut ham (with maple syrup brushed between each flap with a sprinkled salty dry rub) and we had a few other sides. Sugar cookies for desert.
I am βout of the woodsβ for a bit here and can concentrate on making some real progress. I will start logging again. Might take a day or so to βdetox.β

We are officially in the βmow twice a weekβ phase of lawn care. So that is a guarantee of at least some movement. I should get a bike ride in this afternoon too, if the weather holds.
Yesterday I had my teeth scanned for the purpose of making a custom fitted βnight guard.β I am a teeth clencher/grinder at night which is bad for the teeth and TMJ. In the old days they would make a plaster cast of your teeth. It was awful. I am sure some of you have had that experience. Now they just wave a little wand around inside your mouth and voila! A digital model of your teeth shows up on the screen, in color.
Now if I could just floss digitally! π
4/23: 226.8 (1905 CI)
I donβt know what I did to deserve this drop.
Yesterdayβs exercise was to go morel mushroom hunting with DS and DGS. We found one lonely mushroom about 5 minutes before it poured rain. But we kept hunting just like we didnβt care. If nothing else, it was a good memory for DGS to put in his mind. The world offers too much crud trying to crowd out what is really importantβ¦ real experiences with real people.
4/24: 227.6 (1706 CI)
Really good exercise day. Spinning class kicked my rear end. And Cubs won 4th out of 7 games for the year against the Dodgers. (my brother-in-law is a staunch Dodger fan, which makes this extra sweet)
4/25: 227.4 (1979 CI)
Very nice day so I had an 18mi bike ride with a friend. Seemed like we were riding against the wind, both riding out and coming back. HA! (no, it wasnβt uphill both ways.)
I had about 500 unnecessary Calories-In yesterday. My trend weight is really messed up by the indiscretions of Easter weekend.

4/21 DNW β yesterday we rode the motorbike to Sheffield on the annual Easter Egg run to raise funds for the childrenβs hospital; our youngest DGS received treatment in there as a 6 month old before his liver transplant, so the charity is dear to our hearts. Thoughts at the start of this round:
Approximately this time last year (Challenge #15) I began to slowly gain weight throughout the rest of my winter and well into my Spring. I am still battling some of those pounds as we start this new challenge. This is a new opportunity to prove to myself and my family that I AM serious about getting healthier. I know I have bad eating disorders that bring about horrible eating habits. I also battle cravings because I havenβt gotten away from sugar or chocolate long enough to stop the cravings. I have such a long way to go and only a sketchy road to get there but Iβll never give up on myself or lose faith in my strength or my resolve. Iβll admit that Iβm not super confident that I will ever be in the 140βs again (my ultimate goal), but I AM 100% confident that I will shed these 190βs like a bad dream and NEVER weigh this much again. I donβt know when this will happen exactly. But I do know that it will. Thanks for sharing my journey and letting me travel with you on yours.

Iβm quite sure TMI helped as well as the raking and burning I did for several hours yesterday. Possible rain today. I have a lot of projects inside too so Iβll be watching the skies to see if Iβll be working inside or outside. Dr. appointment was disappointing. My blood sugar A1C went back up to 8 point something from 7.0 as tested on Dec. 18th. That is putting me back into some very bad numbers where lots of other health issues start coming along. I canβt afford the GLP-1 meds for diabetes he is recommendingso if I donβt turn this around, I could end up on insulin. Iβve fought hard against it. Iβve got to get my *kitten* together and get this done!
π° π°π° π°π° Day 80β04/24β195.2 β (Trend weight: 196.0) Itβs finally all coming back to haunt me. Iβve been eating a LOT of restaurant food due to how busy Iβve been. At night, Iβve started to just grab my nut snack (type varies) out of the container without measuring or counting them out so I know the quantities have been too high. I havenβt done that in years, honestly. I donβt want to start developing any bad habits! I got about 6 more hours of burning in yesterday but no more raking. Although not even half done with the raking, my piles are already too high so Iβll continue to focus on the burning for now. However, at some point the raking and branch removals will have to start back up or Iβll never be able to have it mowed! I hope you will all enjoy your day.

Re: WOMEN AGES 50+ FOR APRIL 2025
Lisa I need that mantra too! It does not need to be done right now.
I also learned from my IRS experience. I can have the best diet in the world but stress will torpedo all the good you do for yourself. When I got that notice it unfortunately triggered other times in my life when I thought I was going to get something good (my refund check) to something that was going to create a headache for me. My blood pressure shot up to 145/90. I do have to be grateful for my self care because my blood used to be that high without stress. This was borderline and I could feel a headache coming. Getting this cleared up quickly and continuing self care (I did not raid a potato chip bag) My blood pressure returned to 118/74.
Through learning to give myself self care I am also learning the importance of listening to the signals my body is giving me. My body deserves respect it will care for me if I care for it. It will also let me know if I am harming it (stress, poor food choices, not enough positive movement, lack of good sleep, unproductive anger, harmful environment (trying to solve others problems where I absorb their monkeys). I need to listen to the cues my body gives. By becoming a better listener and following through with what my body is asking for my body will be happier and so will I. Better yet the people who surround me in life will be happier too. It is not selfish to take care of your needs! Giving others the gift to find their way with your loving gift of self-care is perhaps the best gift you can give yourself and those you love.
