Re: WOMEN AGES 50+ FOR JUNE 2025
Lanette - I, too, have cut out all sugar and ultra processed foods with the exception of a serving of low calorie Halo Top sea salt caramel ice cream once or twice a week (because I’m not a total psychopath 😊). I’ve found that if I get plenty of lean protein, and season it well with Himalayan pink salt, as well as some healthy fats and high volume low calories veggies, my cravings are practically gone. So while I don’t get cravings for salt or sweets, I still find myself desperately needing something crunchy out of habit. But I’ve dropped 11lbs in the last 5 weeks with this switch, combined with watching my total calorie intake, so I’m trying to find ways through it.
Sometimes I’ll dice up an apple relatively finely and put in in a bowl so I can sit and pop in piece after piece like you would with chips. I’ve made popcorn in a pot on the stove with a little olive oil (since I’m trying to minimize seed oils) or if you have an air popper, that works too. Sometimes (maybe every 2-3 weeks) the compromise is having something processed, like Quest protein chips, because a small serving scratches that itch so I don’t keep going through the pantry eating thing after thing because nothing is satisfying that urge.
Congrats on cutting out the sugar and hope you find a way through it!

Re: 60 yrs and up
I love your weaving, Spring - what a wonderful thing to learn!
WTHeck am I up to? Really not much that's interesting to an audience, honestly.
I'm taking a "Bulletproof Knees" class at my Y, which of course isn't instant perfection, but I think it's helping, even though generally my knee problem isn't about strengthening the main muscles usually mention in that connection. (For example, I have pretty strong quads, if I do say so myself, except maybe the VMO isn't great. Probably quads imbalanced with hamstrings, too, and less good lateral strength/stability than linear.)
My breast cancer survivors rowing team is still meeting weekly, and I'm getting good technical corrections there, as well as usually a more intense workout on those nights, HR almost always spending a fair amount of time above 220 minus age. (Don't worry, my actual max HR is well above 220 minus age. 😆)
My head injury continues improving. As long as I don't lean against anything hard, I feel pretty normal, and I'm not living on acetaminophen anymore. My sense of smell is still mostly AWOL, but may be improving very, very slightly and very, very slowly . . . or maybe I just have a good imagination.
I've been spending a lot of time on tedious but necessary things, or things only interesting to me: My taxes, the annual revision to the rowing club's rowing manual (policies and procedures document members agree to follow), some visual journaling of a misbegotten nature, and stuff like that.
The weather keeps cycling between very Spring-ish, maybe even Summer-y - it's been in the 70s F a couple of times - and real Winter, below freezing and snow. I want to get on the water, but the river - though melted - isn't warm enough for safety yet.
There are starting to be some Spring flowers, thankfully, but very late this year.
See, I told you it was boring.
Example flowers (sorry, we can't put photos in spoilers anymore).
There have been some orchids reblooming indoors, too, over the last couple of months. Things like this are cheering when the long Winter feels grim.

Re: 60 yrs and up
I feel like I’m talking to myself. WTHeck are you guys up to?!
Heading home tomorrow. I’ve been home for 36 hours in the past six weeks- long enough to swap winter clothes for summer, and to pet the dog. The cat never even came out while I was home.
I never thought I’d be happy to stop traveling and stay home!
This is the courtyard in my hotel. I’m so inspired to go home and fill my balconies with plants like I’ve seen here. My balcony railing boxes are going up this weekend!!!!!!! I’m ready!
and this what I spent two back breaking days making….
It looks like hell but I’m proud I stuck it out. It took me twelve hours to make.
That’ll keep your hands out of your mouth!!!!

Re: 100 day Challenge #23 May15.25 – August 22.25
I didn't post yesterday. Didn't exercise yesterday, went downtown for shopping & lunch instead; not really a good replacement. Still lots of walking plus walked the dog. Friday was 'left overs' from Thursday's big meal. Managed a caloric deficit because my calories OUT were very high. Went a little over my 1770 calorie IN target yesterday because I was short on protein, so decided to add an evening protein snack to get my protein up. Scale is up, but 7 day average is trending down. Need to go exercise now, I'll catch up on everyone's posts later.

YES! Berners are known for the “Berner lean”. They will lean into you so hard that they will knock you over if you don’t have a good stance! I’m constantly protecting my knees from Lulu. While their size can be intimidating for people who haven’t been around them before, there’s no way to see this and be scared:
Best bed head ever! Although now that I see it again, it does make her look a bit deranged like she’s straight out of a Tim Burton movie. 😂
Going to see if the humidity is too much for her today or if we can grab a quick walk. Getting to the time of year where she’ll spend most of her time inside in the air conditioning.

Re: WOMEN AGES 50+ FOR JUNE 2025
Worked for me!
Lanette and Lynn, did I ever tell the story of the Bernese Moutnain dog that was camping? If I did, sorry, but here goes. The camper beside me had 2 women who had just bought the camper and were just learning about camping. They had a Bernie camping with them that I befriended. (Had to lean against their camper as he was a ‘hugger’ ! Lol) Well, they were getting ready to leave and couldn’t figure out how to undo one of the connections. I saw them struggling so went over to help. I bent down to see if I could help and look. Then this humongous Head came at me from under the camper. I almost fell because he surprised me so much! He was tied on the opposite side of the machine but spotted me and wanted to say hi! He wasn’t mean or anything, he licked me once I got my nerves and adrenaline under control! We all laughed and the owner was apologizing. I was laughing too and said he simply surprised me! I didn’t expect a ‘monster’ to come out from under her camper! They all doubled over laughing, meanwhile the Bernese was just looking goofy from under the camper because he was stuck there now. Looked like he was smiling right along with us! Awesome dogs! 🐕🤪
Speaking of dogs, Lucy was gnawing on the skirt under a chair in the camper but both her ears were up. I called her name and got a cute picture of her and her radar ears!
Wicket is beggining to tolerate Lucy. She has no choice as Lucy seems to know Wicket won’t hurt her! Wicket is 13 years old.
Long day yesterday in the pay booth. Another today, but I enjoy that. We had a couple of problems with campers in the wrong sites, but both nothing I couldn’t handle even though I was exhausted after the booth from 9-5 yesterday. One was that they had the wrong date, but I was able to help them by putting them in the empty host site. They were so happy I was able to help, when they left this morning, they gave me a little bag with 2 bars of homemade soaps, a jar of body lotion, and a chapstick all homemade. They were so happy! The token makes me happy to help. There are some nice people out there. The other problem turned out I knew about that happening and had a place for him by the lake. He was ecstatic and thankful for the upgrade. When I have to move someone, I always try to upgrade them as a thank you for being patient with us. A good day all in all.
I need to prepare for the booth so need to go. Here is
The Thought for Today:
Did you hear the rumor about butter?
Well, I’m not going to spread it!
Anyone figure out how to put 2 pictures side-by-sidle?

Debbie ~ How old is Ezzie? I hope she will learn a lot about all the birds and wild life in the wetlands.
Allie ~ Sorry about your loss of sleep and hope your brother's court date benefits him.
Tracey ~ Your date night feast and movie sounds great!
Heather ~ I know you love your grands dearly but can understand that you need a break occasionally. At my age (almost 77) I would find it very difficult. Glad I was able to keep mine when they were very little while their mom worked. My younger sister is keeping her autistic granddaughter this summer as her daughter has no other help. It's driving her bats.
I have started back on my anti-depressant and the crying has stopped for the most part. I had part of a bottle to take and am now having to try and get a dr's appointment to get more as the prescription expired last Fall.

Re: WOMEN AGES 50+ FOR JUNE 2025
worked in the back yard with my mini chainsaw- LOVE that thing- Cut back Juniper,Ivy, Yucca and Plum tree branches- filled up two large yardwaste containers- one is just Yucca- that thing kept poking me every time I went up the steps to the upper garden. Chain saw worked great on one of the smaller ones.
Also got all the dished done and gave the old cat a bath, got some of the laundry done- the load of her pee pads washed and put out to dry in the back yard. Another load of laundry going now with another to do this evening. Tomorrow will be at least a couple more- stripping the bed completely including the mattress pad, washing everything and moving the memory foam pad up where it belongs(it has slid down and very annoying to me).
Dh will be gone with a friend all day so I have a list of chores I want to get done without him here.
A bit annoyed with him today. He has taken over our son's room since he moved out and all he does since then is lay in bed and watch movies on the new projector screen he bought to go with the new mini projector he bought at the garage sale. It would have not been a big deal BUT he already has both of those in the bedroom and hasn't used them in a few years. The screen in the bedroom is huge and motorized- He used if for about 6 months at the most.
He just now came out of the room and it is 8PM. I am sure he is wondering what we are having for dinner- I will warm up left overs for myself and he can do the same. He gets irritated when he has to do for himself- oh well.
Going to have my herbal tea and read the rest of the posts- as I am two pages behind.
