😀 welcome Naecie and Hera. You have come to the right place for support and encouragement. I found this thread at age 62, a veteran of decades of failure at weight loss. By logging onto this thread daily, I’ve acquired good behaviours like choosing nutritious food, drinking water, and seeking every opportunity to be active.

Good afternoon ladies!
Kay - great job on the weight loss, especially considering what a stressful few months you've had dealing with your brother's passing, mom & Possum and Jasper. The weight loss program you've been following is a keeper. Great tip on not keeping the sugary stuff in the house otherwise it's too easy to binge. Truth!
Today kind of got away from me - morning shopping and gym, then T and her DH stopped by and he fixed my gate.
Plus I watched an interesting ZOE presentation about protein. After the big push this past few years for more and more protein - add to smoothies, buy foods and drinks with added protein, etc., it appears that 1.2 gm/KG for older adults is sufficient. My ideal weight is around 72 kg, (159-160 lbs) so 84 gm is about right to maintain muscle. Maybe a bit more for younger folks who go to the gym regularly, but there's no correlation about upping protein = more muscle without doing the work. We gotta lift those weights! Or do something that uses our big muscles and gets us off the couch, lol. 😁 Also, include more plant protein and cut back on meat sources. Greek yogurt got high marks. The body utilizes protein for much more than just making muscle, so it's important that we get enough. There's too much to summarize here, but if interested, here's a link. 1 hr 12 min.

Margaret - I think this follows with the guidelines you've been following. Love that crepe myrtle - I'm not familiar with it.
Welcome new gals!

OoOoh look what I ordered for my soap bars. Hopefully it won't be too big for the side of my bathroom sink.👍🏼💖
I use Kirk's coconut soap and I hate when it gets too gloopy.

Barbie, Thank you for another month.
Busy, stupid busy! I caught up with all WORK paperwork! 24 hours extra work with one overnight. I am too old for that! Yesterday I gave great niece the done invoices to call. I was trying to deal with estimates, but kept getting interrupted. I went to the kitchen, ignored the counter, and got done at 115. We close at 2!
In between work, I have been utilizing productive procrastination.....flower beds all weeded and I continue to remove tree upstart every day. My hanging baskets are still doing well from May. The house is clean, laundry done, time spent with DH, time spent with kittens. We even got most of the outside windows washed. I need to do the inside. Now that work stuffs is caught up i sm feeling much calmer.
Tory slept like this for over 3 hours while I was working.
Bought this dress for $10 two weekends ago. Regularly $50. Finally got to wear today to car show. I was going to wear my little white tennis shoes when I realized I had white sandals in my closet that I had never worn!
Of course that meant painting toenails. I felt beautiful today.
July .....well....I had fun, got lots of things accomplished (though not what I needed to do), drank lots of water, and I guess I threw goals out the window. I learned that I need to treat me like I would a friend. I am still learning that little bites still gets the job done. Still trying to learn that I don't have to do it all at once.
As August has begun, I will jump on Lisa's goal of be lighter than the start of the month. I would like to get off the 140 mark. I need to continue to do even small tasks each day to help the big picture.
Welcome to the new ladies!
I am thankful and grateful to have you all as part of my daily life. I have on my bucket list to road trip and visit everyone. Okay....a few of you would need to be by plane.
Today I got to enjoy the hummingbirds fighting over the feeders. I have a ruby throated one, a green throated one , and a female. I have three feeders. I am sure one is the aggressor, but they are fast flying! They do make me laugh.
Much love!

Allie - Delia gets more adorable with every picture you post. Look at her hair and those eyes. 😍Sounds like you have Sean all fixed up with that new helmet, glad he wasn't hurt and his bike is OK. How far is his commute to work?
Lisa - thank you for the flowers link. I stopped in at Walmart today and check out theirs - grabbed a couple not-sure-what's to fill in my hanging basket, they were inexpensive but still, $2.00 per each seemed high. Thankfully I can store them over the winter and reuse. They did have some trailing morning glories which I didn't get, but you definitely found a better price off Amazon. They were getting in fall flowers - I might grab some of those and do a change-out in a month. Sure is nice not having to water them.
Heather - I wish I could sleep through August. For some reason I'm just ready for September. Maybe because when I was a child, August was hot and took forever - they called it "dog days" - we farm kids were anxious for school to start up again the first week of September so we could see our friends and schoolmates again. Strange to think how isolated we were during the summer. We saw other kids at Sunday School but they weren't necessarily our good friends. Many of them lived in town and could play together all summer. Otherwise we kids had pets and each other and parents and grandparents and chores.
Barbara - I figured Joe once worked a graveyard shift. Interesting how he's trending back toward those hours. Are they advising that dogs get kennel cough vaccinations? I think they just squirt the stuff up the dog's nose, no jabs. Maybe they are giving it time to run its course.
Kylia - you look dynamite in that dress!! Wow - very chic and becoming. Great price too. That Tori is a snuggler, love it.
Pip - it's a shame that Ethel has no comfortable place to relax at your house. NOT, lol. How are the other doggies doing with her? Are any of them trying to be the Alpha? Maybe that role is reserved for you.
Ginny - glad you can take your time with the move. When does the remaining kitty - Lucy? - get officially moved? Lots of Lucy fur kids in our group. 😁

Sophie- no one is trying to be the alpha. They are all getting along, they ignore kind of coexist like they did with yogi., it’s great.
Tomorrow we are going camping for a week. We are not taking a crate so this will be a first time that she will sleep on our bed (if she wants). Will be a lot of firsts for her. Beach, feeling sand on her paws, have yogurt at the local shop.

I actually put gas in it a couple of times per year. It’s a plug in hybrid and most of my mileage is electric. I don’t use much gas at all. I might fill it more if we take a road trip. None of those are currently planned.
I try to use the car the least amount possible. If I can walk, bike or take the bus, I prefer that.

Yesterday ended up being delightful. 🤩
I was so anxious about getting to Roedean because we are still in the throes of the Pride weekend, with all kinds of roads blocked off, including the seafront road in front of the pier that leads directly to the school. My son told me, in the morning, that he had room to take us over, but not to take us back. That relieved half of my worries. Phew!
I had been feeling dreadful all day. Headache, lymphodema in my arm, weepy, and still was, by the time we got there. The school has a good sized theatre, in traditional style, with red velvet seats etc. The girls have been attending all week, from 9.30 - 4.30, to put on a show. Real West End choreographers, and a couple of singers, but the body of the work is a showcase for the kids of all ages. It must be a massive job! There was also a comedy film starring every age group. Of course, everyone loves the 'Weenies', the 4-6 year olds!
Edie was one of the youngest in her group, 11 - 13, and she doesn't go to the regular theatre school, but she was in the front row because of her size, and did really well. She doesn't have a natural stage presence, but I could see she was warming up as the evening progressed. Two and a half hours, with a 15 minute interval. Bea just adores performing, she says it is her 'happy place ', and she goes to regular lessons, so she was fully occupying her roles. The joy is on her face. Both girls had some solo lines to say.
So, I felt a lot better by the end of the evening! We waited outside with the parents, and Max, to congratulate the girls, and they ran out and gave us a big hug! Lovely! 😁 Edie immediately said she wanted to come over on Friday this week. My heart, which has been heavy this week, immediately lightened.
I ordered an Uber, and it came pretty promptly, even negotiating the very steep hill up to the theatre. It blows up there, on top of the sea cliffs, even on the quietest day. So, all was good. I bet the girls slept well last night.
Today feels like Sunday, as we were out at the theatre last night! This morning, I had another go at my chair and managed to get two screws into the legs. I just can't get the other two to catch. I've left it to see if John has more luck. I'm normally good at these things, so I'm baffled. And annoyed.
Cleaner today.

Ginny: So sorry about Zombu. It’s hard to let them go, but we have to think of their quality of life.
Heather: Sounds like you got a lovely lift from the day out. Such a great experience for the grands.
Spent time yesterday with family. Granddaughter is home for 10 days, so planning a couple more outings before she goes back. (She lives in Oxford). We are under a yellow storm warning today, but hoping it blows through before tomorrow as we are going to an Art and Soul event at a local hotel complex. It’s a big sculpture exhibition (mostly outdoor) and indoor paintings and other art installations (indoor). We will have lunch at the hotel.

Sitting in new digs. Lucy and I came over yesterday. She is slowly getting acclimated to it, I think. She spent night sleeping on my bed. I ordered a stair/ramp item for her (she can't make jump to bed). I can also move it so she can get on window sill to checkout whatever is happening outside. She has found her food and water and knows where litter is (no signs of potty anywhere in apartment).
Kylia - the dress is really cute! I would kill myself on a heel as high as those. Hope work settles down.
Heather - glad you got to see the girls perform. They are involved in activities that will increase their self-confidence.
Pip - Ethel is adorable!
Allie - hard to believe how much Delia has grown!
Lanette - I can relate to your memories of August. It seemed like it was often hard to get together with friends, we never really lived in neighborhoods.
Going to unpack more of what I brought over yesterday-want stuff put away before movers bring rest of stuff on Wednesday. Discovered I forgot to bring hangers so some of that will wait until I go back to house (I have tons of hangers there and no need to get anymore). Going to check out chair yoga later today.
Take care all,

Heather- That sounds like a lovely evening. Glad you are feeling better.
Terry- Your event sounds lovely and elegant! I hope the weather doesn't impact it.
Ginny- I am so excited for your new chapter. My daughter has a atep/ramp for her senior cat. Ava is 16 y/o. One morning when they were gone, I thought Ava had died. She didn't flinch until I got to her face to see if she was breathing. Then she meowed/screamed at me. I told myself daughter and she laughed saying Ava does it all the time. Glad Lucy is settling in.
Pip- Ethel looks like she has always been with you!
Lanette- I had a friend mention Fall decorations yesterday. I told her to stop as we still have August! I am sooo a summer lady! September is vacation though....
Thank you for the compliments. Apparently I know how to dress in dresses, just not in pants/skirts. More than one piece apparently escapes me most of the time.
Better get this day going.
Much love,

I have put in so much work this weekend and today (Monday).
At work in the office all day Friday and then in the evening till midnight.
Saturday for about 3 hours in the evening.
Sunday for a couple hours in the evening.
All day today from 9 am to 11 pm.But I managed to get another submission off to the Commonwealth AND I fixed something pertaining to that submission so that it should be easier to do going forward.
There are several sections to the submission and I've been working through each of them setting up the database, writing SQL code and then working with PowerQuery so that now, for most of it, the steps are: 1. Load a small collection of spreadsheets into the database. 2. Refresh PowerQuery.
The section I just completed was a particularly troublesome one. Very hard to get the data required in the first place and that took some negotiating on several fronts. And then putting it all together. Like doing a complex puzzle. I've been chipping away at it for about 2 years. Not consistently, of course, but a little bit here and little bit there with the fragments of data people would give me. Only recently did I start getting some decent data to work with.
I feel relieved. And I have Tuesday off!
I kind of feel like I've arrived back on earth after spending several days on some Data planet.
I got a decent walk in today.
My walks and the recent bicycle ride have been spent trying to get my head around the section of work I've been doing … basically doing the puzzle in my head while I walked so that when I got home, I could work on it a bit more.
Our bees were super busy today!
I went out about 8:30 am and there were heaps flying. A little later I took this photo.
There are bees going in and out and the ones that are on the wood pieces and around the entrance were fanning like mad. It might be warm inside. I think the sun is starting to come around and shine on the hive a little bit.

Kylia … you look fabulous in your dress and heels!
Kay … congratulations on meeting your health goals!
Pip … your newest pup looks very content.
Ginny … thinking of you as you move to your new digs. I'm of the mindset that all changes, even positive ones, have a component of grief as well. (Loss of familiarity, memories, etc.) I think you're doing great.
Son is going full-steam ahead with his health changes. Storage containers he bought for weekly food prep arrived yesterday and we went shopping for lean protein and vegetables yesterday. (So stupid to shop on a Sunday. Won't do that again.) He's maintaining a high protein/lower carb (not carb free) diet as he loses weight. And he IS losing weight! MFPs numbers for protein for him though seemed too high (because he's currently heavy) so he's taking the advice of a Cleveland Clinic article and modifying daily protein goals to what he would need at a maintenance weight…. which is still very high and still a challenge for him to meet. So much conflicting information out there. He's going to run it all by his doctor this morning and hoping his doctor is more current than some of the nutritionists he's seen in years past.
So the point of all of that I just shared is that my husband and I are eating much better as well. Can't and won't do exactly what son is doing, but no added sugar products, no processed foods and adding more fruits and vegetables is only good for us too.
Have the house to myself this morning, so I'm off to get some things done!

Carol - Many congratulations on your granddaughter's achievement. A lot of talent, and even more hard work.
Of course, now I've got another UTI. I wasn't able to drink enough water at the theatre yesterday, despite taking a small bottle with me. I knew it was risky, as I felt thirsty, but the pain didn't come on until after lunch today. The doctor has prescribed me some antibiotics, which I will have to collect from the pharmacy later this pm. I will give them an hour or so.
Chinese crispy duck for dinner. I'm not feeling up to preparing it right now, so it may have to wait until tomorrow. Or John can do it. He went out for a walk this afternoon and may be at the Paris House pub, which has jazz on Monday afternoons.
Hoping for relief soon.

Hey, kids…
Trying to ignore the fact that I have a physical therapy appointment at 1:30 this afternoon and get things done anyway… without notable success in that endeavor.
So I've been doodling here and there. Write a little while, go open all the windows and do the Epley maneuver. Write a little while, go water the garden and pick the tomatoes that are ripe - you get the idea. Just bits and bobs and here and there.
Kylia - Love the polka dot dress! Very stylish… and much respect for the heels. I couldn't wear 'em, but they sure are pretty on you. Sorry about the end-of-month paperwork marathon. I do not miss that in any way.
Pip - Ethel looks so at home on the bed. Enjoy the camping trip.
Heather - Do you think the UTI was already ramping up when you were feeling weepy and out-of-sorts before even going to the show? I'm sorry you've got another one going, and hope you find relief soon. So pleased the show was fun for the girls, and so glad you got to see them.
Carol - So pleased for your granddaughter's achievement—pretty awesome to be heading straight for varsity!
Beth - So glad your son's changes are affecting all your lives positively. So much easier to make those kind of changes when you have support in the house where you live…
Machka - Welcome back from Planet Data! The fact that we are good at doing something doesn't necessarily mean we want to do it every minute of every day… Glad you've got a day to take a breath coming.
Welcome to everyone who's new!
And now… I've written a little to y'all, and it's time to go get in the shower. Hope it's a grand Monday, past, present or future, for you.
Love,

Barbara, the DR said to cut down only if my urine was clear, not yellow, or straw (which is the doc's preferred color).
Fell on the gravel this morning. My knee is a mess and the outside of my left hand feels bruised. I stepped on a pebble that rolled when I went to put my other foot off the step to the ground. The rolling rock made me lose my balance and fall. Otherwise, got up and continues onto my walk with Lucy.
Thought for today:
I got a new jacket recently made entirely of living plants.
I wasn’t sure at first, but it’s grown on me.

Welcome @neacie88 Neacie and @hera1064 ! Do either of you have PT exercises to ease your hip pain?
Ginny ((hugs held extra extra long)). Leaving your job, moving, losing Zombu, three BIG stressors. Hope you’ve scheduled some self care. ((hugs))
Annie sorry to hear your foot still hasn’t healed. Time for a 2nd opinion?
Machka sorry to hear you’re having to setup work computer and work so late. Is there any relief in sight?
Margaret that’s a great gratitude list. Hope the seven plagues have played themselves out.
Carol Brava for your beautiful granddaughter making varsity on her very first day.
Michele hope the deck/septic/permit process goes smoothly and quickly. Nooo for trees turning already, nooo!
Pip Miss E.M. made 6 miles? WOW! Would she tolerate booties? That pavement looks HOT!
Lanette I am NOT ready for the seasons to change. We’ve had weeks and weeks of lows 50’s, highs 60’s, gloomy, grey days with only peeks of blue sky some afternoons. This morning our local radio announcer forecast highs in the 80’s Thursday, 90’s Friday and triple digits this weekend. Probably the Chetco effect that the National Weather Service often overlooks. Be careful what you wish for, Barbara ;{ Thanks for the link to the Zoe protein presentation. My goal weight of 120 would work out to about 66 g protein/day much more doable! All our dogs regularly get kennel cough inoculations, but not everyone does. There’s been strong (over?) reaction to the over vaccination by some vet practices . . .
Lisa you and Lanette are inspiring me. Instead of letting my hanging baskets rust, or their contents dry/die, maybe some silk flowers to perk things up in the fog???
Kay con VERY gratulations on taking those pounds off, especially amidst the grief with your brother and sister in law. ((hugs))
Barbie I, too, need a bib. Salad dressing stains on the “shelf” every time. :P
Margaret stunning crepe myrtle!
Rebecca that Kodiak protein granola bar, banana, Greek yoghurt combo has my mouth watering!
Allie Oh that Delia! I see she’s joined Barbie and Me in the needs-a-bib club ;)
Kylia “…productive procrastination…” Love that! You look gorgeous in the new dress and sandals!
Tina “take the bus” in So Cal? Times have sure changed ;}
Heather so thankful that Bea and Edie were able to lighten your heart. ((hugs))
Beth love hearing about your son’s, your husband’s and your eating better. Key!
Rita one time a rolling pebble got me, I broke a wrist. Hope your injuries are mild and short-lived.

Kylia-You look lovely!
Heather-Sounds like a nice evening out. Hope the UTI clears up quickly!Barbara-The bus system still stinks. There are just a few places we can go relatively easily. However, it requires a one mile walk to and another back from the bus stop. Otherwise, the bus is still pretty useless. For most people, it’s useless. A one mile walk is too much for many who actually need to use it.
Ginny-So sorry to hear about your kitty. 😢
Woke up in excruciating pain. When I came back from my trip, I had nearly no pain in my back and my feet were only slightly painful. It’s now 2 weeks home and both are the worst they've been. Obviously there is something in my lifestyle causing it. I’ll need to figure it out.
Have a great day!Tina in CA

Happy August! Thank you, Barbie for keeping us going.
Ginny — I'm so sorry for the loss of your kitty, made especially difficult during this time of great transitions. Take care.
Pip — Your new pup looks great and seems to be falling into the family routine! Good for you!
Welcome to the newbies!
Love the grandkid pics.
Hubby and I got away this weekend to Ashland. We watched three plays — Merry Wives of Windsor (very bawdy and a hoot!), Shane (a multi-ethnic more historically accurate representation of the west than the movie version of the novel — hubby loved this one very much), and Julius Caesar (100% female/non-binary cast, so women playing men's roles — kind of a "pay back" for all those years that men played women in Shakespeare's plays and to give women a chance to have some really meaty Shakespeare roles — This might have been my favorite. The actors were absolutely amazing and fully embodied their roles. The actors playing Brutus and Cassius were especially strong. Hubby thought this play was too loud, and there was a lot of screaming, screeching, machine gun fire, flashing lights, etc.)
At the gift shop, I bought a stage prop from Born with Teeth, which we saw last year (and I highly recommend to you if it comes your direction — it's opening on the West End in about a week, after runs in Houston and Ashland over the last couple years.): a folio page of a play Shakespeare and Marlowe are writing during the play. It's a super cool prop. Looks really authentic, if you don't look too closely! lol Just what a literature nerd like me needs for her wall!
Anyway, we had a great time. Managed to get out of Ashland Saturday morning and drove up to the top of Mount Ashland and had a glorious view of California (or should I say Jefferson, wink wink). Mt. Ashland is just six miles from the border. I managed to find food I could eat, including a 100% gluten free bakery which made a delicious asparagus and goat cheese quiche.
Julius Caesar was a matinee yesterday, so we headed out of down immediately after. Stopped for dinner at Seven Feathers Casino, where hubby had a delicious steak dinner. I had grilled brussels sprouts and half of his baked potato, and I brought half of the sprouts home! So yummy.
Wonderful weekend. Harley was beside herself when we got home. I tried to play it cool for her, but she still just about came unglued.
Sorry for the novel! One more week of summer vacation, and I go back to work next Monday for inservice activities. I'm sad to see my summer end.
Much love.

Beth - neat that your son is doing well pursuing his weight loss goals and the food/shopping choices are good for the whole household. Yes, there is definitely a lot of conflicting information about protein. Even the ZOE video from yesterday left me with questions. The 2 presenters didn't exactly contradict each other in a couple areas, but they didn't explain things to my satisfaction.
Heather - sounds like yesterday was a lot of fun watching the girls - glad it all worked out with the transportation there and back. Hope the UTI goes away quickly, glad you could get the antibiotics so soon. And hope John can get those table legs attached. I have days like that too.
Flea - what an awesome weekend getaway for you. 😍 My best GF when I worked in Seattle always made the trip to Ashland. How is your DH doing with his big decision?
Barbara - I don't have the vet give Rosie the kennel cough vaccine and our state mandates the rabies vaccine every 3 years for adult dogs although I'm not sure they need it. I once asked my former vet about titrating to see if the antibody level was sufficient and he poo-pooed it. That said, if Rosie went to doggie daycare or was around other dogs, I'd do the kennel cough one. So your summer weather is finally arriving. I wish we'd get a month or 6 weeks of decent fall weather - sunny cool days. Some years we go from blazing to overcast and monsoons within a couple weeks, lol. I can really tell a difference when the sun shines! I'll soon be putting full-spectrum (or near full spectrum LED) light bulbs in the lamps I use most.
Croc galoshes?? I need to look into those.
I have a few days of cool weather and possibly a little rain tomorrow night/Weds morning. Hope the weatherman doesn't peter out. Then hot stuff - 90's - next weekend for a few days.
Make it a wonderful week ladies! 😍
