Meditation
Tuesday, Ordinary 27, Proper 22 continued with the Law of God and the importance of obedience to it. The Old Testament lesson in Deuteronomy followed the people of Israel as they observed the presence of God atop Mt. Sinai in a cloud of fire. (An aside: The top of the mountain, Jabal al Lawz, in Saudi Arabia, shows evidence of charring that remains unexplained by natural circumstances. Archaeologists have suggested that this is the more logical location for Mt. Sinai, than the mountain that was determined to be Mt. Sinai by Constantine’s mother, who ‘dreamed’ it was on the Peninsula and so it was named.)
The fire frightened the Children of Israel and God told Moses that they had nothing to fear if they obeyed the law. Obedience to the Law was tied to ‘living in the land’ and history proved it more than once that as Israel disobeyed the Law, they lost their privilege.
But the New Testament epistle to the church at Corinth spoke of the transformative aspect of becoming a believer in Christ. Paul wrote that people became new creatures and put off the old ways of doing things. Peace occurred between God and the world through Christ and Christians reaped the benefits.
Becoming a Christian was like falling in love—that blissful moment when everything in the world appears different. The lights are brighter. The colors more vibrant. The sounds more visceral. The world more peaceful and idyllic. Everything is enhanced.
Loving God transforms the believer from the inside out because Christ, who was sinless, shared our sin for us so we could be reconciled to God.
Thanks be to God.

Prayer: Almighty God, Open my eyes that I might see. Open my mind that I might understand. Open my heart that I might make your words a part of me. May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable in your sight. Amen

2 Corinthians 5:17-21
King James Version (KJV)
17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;
19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.
21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

Prayer of Encouragement
Almighty God, we give you praise for your promises which bring hope to us, even as the Psalmist declared. Empower us to maintain the energy and inspiration of being a new creature in Christ. In Jesus name, Amen
I hope you found a chance to encounter your Creator and experience the Love of God and the joy of Christ in Ordinary 27, Proper 22.
Conclusion
Tuesday, Ordinary 27, Proper 22 the lesson began with the Psalmist’s praise of God for his promises, which came true.
The Old Testament lesson in Deuteronomy shared the fear the people had with Moses’ encounter with God on the mountain top. The fiery cloud singed the crest and the noise made the people fear God’s destruction of them. They believed God would destroy them.
God assured Moses that they could be certain of his faithfulness and fulfillment of promises if they were obedient to the Law so they would be able to live long in the land.
The New Testament lesson listed the ways that that believers would be transformed and become new creations—completely different from their former attitudes and behaviors. New Christians often find the transformation easy because they are so excited by their conversion. The trick is to keep up that zeal and joy, which is possible by doing what you are doing—studying the Scriptures and applying it to your life.
Go out and be ready for God to do mighty things in your life—for the glory of God.*
