This new system they have instituted makes it way too hard to post anything. I am now on a "spam" watch and locked out for 2 minutes because I tried to post the October book discussion twice within 60 seconds. What will happen if I try it again? A free trip to Guantanamo?

This is weird and weird looking. Let me know if you need a saw. Very unfriendly!!! Saw a lovely movie today 100 Foot Journey. Would recommend it!! Have you located The Goldfinch?

I have a confession to make: I'm skipping this month's book. I've started a time-consuming class about Florida plants and animals, and I have this on-going health problem that's really stressing me out that I need surgery for. I'm just going to do some easy reading and jump in during the next round, whether that be November or December. I still would like to hear how it's going with those of you reading The Goldfinch because I may pick it up some other time if your reviews are good!

PS. I love your sense of humor, Mady

I am so sorry to hear of your health problems and your needing surgery to correct it. Listen best wishes and do keep in touch. I think your class sounds up your alley and will help with your adjustment to your new environment.

Here is my confession...I have 3 books ahead of The Goldfinch and I don't know when I will tackle it. (And I do mean tackle). I am reading 2 books , at the moment, and then I have #7 of the Spencer-Fleming series (I have to know :)! ) and Unbroken (Before the movie hits). I would hate for the three of us to fade as it is an important reason I keep returning to this site.

This month is full of family visiting, another library sale with all the enticing books I will most certainly add to my list. Depending on Lenore's input maybe we can keep in touch and share reading for a time. It seems L is doing some Grisham reading , at the moment. Mady

I'm with you about keeping the group together; it keeps me connected with MFP even when I'm not psyched up to eat healthy (gasp).

You are tempting me with the Spencer-Fleming series! I must get caught up.

Unbroken sounds really intense. I wonder if you ever read Gone Girl, and if so, how was it? My son and I are going to see a movie next week, but I'm not sure I can talk him into the 100 ft journey so I may have to wait for the DVD.

Have a fun time looking for gems at the library sale!

    Mary

Yes, I did read Gone Girl. Liked the twists and turns of the story. It is a real thriller but be prepared for some gritty stuff. Many of my friends have decided not to see it because of that. I plan to see it, my reservation is Ben Affleck not a fan.

Enjoy the time with your son. M

You've told me just enough to whet my appetite. I'll be looking for that book. Yeah, Ben is a bit of a lightweight.

I'm going to a cooking class this afternoon - something my daughter-in-law arranged for us. Two glasses of wine apiece. Egad - I'll need a ride home.

Still working on Pale Blue Eye, but skipping some of the more archaic-sounding paragraphs. I just want to get to the end to see whodunit.

Hi there. Hope the cooking class and, especially, the wine was good. Nice to have time with your new daughter-in-law. I do want to hear about Gone Girl when you get to see it. I am reading all over the place but not our monthly choice. I think we agreed to postpone it until after you resolve your health issues. Do you remember months ago you suggested The Storied Life of A.J.Fikry? Got an email today that the library has finally sent it to my shelf! I shall probably put all reading on hold to tackle that book. Want to read it together?? Hope you found out whodunit and you can close the cover on Pale Blue Eye.

    Lenore, how are you doing?

    It rained!!!! California good news!!!

    Cheers, Diamondettes. :) Mady

Congratulations on the rain!!! Hey - I did pick up The Storied Life of ... and it's lurking around here somewhere. So, let's go for it. I'm over 1/2 way done with Pale Blue Eye now.

    How are you, Lenore?

I fed my keyboard coffee and it got all frazzled. Ok though it was a dinosaur laptop from 6 years ago. Love this new light weight thing>

I'm thrilled you are all tech-ed up and can rejoin the reading! Look for a November topic soon. I'm headed down to visit my son and daughter-in-law today; we're going to an Italian restaurant for lunch for my birthday celebration.
