Good morning ladies and gents!!
Hope all is doing well this morning. I'm just getting caught up with post from a long weekend. I did manage to track this weekend, but couldn't get here to post.
Not sure if I shared this with everyone here or not..... I've made the decision to go for gastric bypass. I started the process on September 17th. Hopefully surgery in January or February 2015. I've already started the process of giving up caffeine... I was on caffeine pills, now I just take B12 for energy. They aren't as good as caffeine pills, but the nutritionist said NO CAFFEINE, so I am having no caffeine. AND boy does it suck big time toe jam. The headaches from the withdrawl are not fun at all. I am also trying new recipes, switched from ground beef to ground turkey and ground chicken. Making all the needed changes so that after surgery is the smoothest possible transition for me. I also plan on hitting the gym soon. I am slowly starting to walk. I walk a bit better on a treadmill then I do just walking alone, so I will give that a try. Also, I was told to "TRY" the elliptical for 60 secs a day and work my way up from there. I also put away all my summer clothes from this summer into storage at my storage unit. (had to get one for my furniture when I moved from Buffalo, NY back home to Wilmington, DE.....I have clothes from 2x - 4x in that unit for summer. NONE of which I plan on fitting me next year, but am waiting till then to donate them to Catholic Charities (battered women's shelter here). I have a 1x women's jacket that I bought from Kohls a few years ago, can't wait to break that out. (bought on clearance and it's addorable)...

So glad to see you uplifted today. Congrats on your decision. Those are so hard to make! Me personally, unless I fail dramatically this time around, I will not choose surgery for myself, but I am thrilled that it is an option for those, like yourself, Julie, and others who truly need it!!
Wow, no caffeine? I did without it for years, but with my thyroid all wonky, sleep problems, and my lovely "food narcolepsy," I have to do something or get fired from my job. Kind of sucks, but I've found a good balance for now. Why do they have a no caffeine rule - because of the stimulation of muscle contractions and the like? I wonder... Anyway, I'm sorry you are dealing with withdrawals, but it sounds like you have a lot of awesome things going for you!!
I like the "try" it for 60 seconds idea. I may have to employ that. Each machine for 60 seconds...then up it. LOL
Oh, and there is nothing like an excellent item in a smaller size to make you squee with anticipation of finally fitting into it...me, I'm looking forward to shrinking out of the awesome coat I bought last year so I can have the excuse to go find a cuter one!
Happy Hump Day,
Carly in OK0 -
Hey Carly.... they say no caffeine due to the fact that you are not absorbing all the vitamins/minerals from food and caffeine makes it worst for malabsorption.0

I would not survive without caffeine. I know its bad for me and everyone always suggests giving up my diet pepsi habit to lose weight but I seem to be doing ok with it so I am keeping it for now.
I don't currently have any smaller clothes to shrink into. I learned my lesson after the jeans I bought and put away for the right season are too big now. Don't get me wrong I would rather have that problem than the other way around but I fell in love with those pants even though they were pretty snug when I bought them. I am not a girly girl ( 5 boys will do that to you) and this was the first pair with rhinestones that I actually liked and semi fit.
I need to go coat shopping here soon. I have worn the same winter coat for 5 years- at times not being able to zip it when I was at my heaviest- and now it just hangs on me and I feel like a little kid playing dress up in my parent's closet.0 -
I wish you the best with your decision to have surgery. I know a few people who have had success with it. I really like the try-it-for-60-seconds idea. We bought a second-hand elliptical a few years ago, but I never felt like I could do it. But I think I could to it for 60 seconds. And then we'll see what happens.0

Wennim, It might be worth looking for a seamstress near you. A good one might cost you $10 for an adjustment, but if you love those jeans that much, she/he can make them fit you well, perhaps better than they would have fit you when you were that size. Sincerely. It is worth checking in to. And that seamstress can probably show you how to continue to modify them until the overall proportions can't be shrunk anymore.... Hugs, Carly0

Carly- I do a lot of my own sewing and I seriously thought and even did some pinning on the jeans but I think I am just going to let them go. I think the reason I loved them was because they were the first pair I found in a smaller size that weren't just plain mom jeans and on clearance for $10 -I love a bargain. I think I am going to offer them to my sister who has always been smaller than me but I am pretty sure is bigger than me now. She's not the nicest person and offering her my "too big" clothes will be worth more than ever wearing them.0

Congratulations Cari if I haven't said it already. As you know my lap band surgery is Oct 20th. I have a beautiful faux fur jacket I bought in a closing down sale, once in a lifetime opportunity. I can't wait till I can finally wear that either!0

Best of luck with the surgery buddy. I hope its life changing for you and you get into that smaller coat. I considered it and its not for me but I know it makes a world of difference for some people and well done on starting to make all the changes needed. Im down to mybe 1 glass diet pop a day now sometimes none and the withdrawals suck donkey dung but they dont last long and actually you feel so much better without0
