Everyone knows you can slow cook soups, chilli, beef stew and so many other crockpot classics but what have you discovered by mistake / experimenting, that sounds a little left field, but totally works out great? I've heard that you can successfully bake bread in the slow cooker. Anyone tried it? What were the results? Let's push the limits on slow cooker cooking.

you can slow cook baked potatoes or sweet potatoes without foil.
Just wash the potatoes, put them in the crock (Don't poke holes in them), and cook on low for 6-8 hours.

Butternut squash. Cut it in half, place the halves skin side down in the crock, cook on low 6-8 hrs. Once it is done, scoop out the seeds and discard them, then scoop out the good part. I like to use a potato masher on this part and add a little butter. You can also add it to soups or spread it on toast like jam and top with cinnamon.

So glad you posted this, Sandra! I just bought a butternut and am anxious to cook it!

Spaghetti squash...as well as the others....I don't even cut it first. Just into the crockpot with about a cup of water....8-10 hours later...it's soft enough to cut through the tough skin without risking losing a finger. Easier to scoop out the seeds when the flesh is soft, too!
