Hi All,

I am a 39yo guy living in Sydney. I had a gastric sleeve operation 4 months ago and my life has changed dramatically. I have lost about 32kg (70lb) in that time and now I no longer snore, have heaps more energy and look and feel better. It hasn't all been pleasant but I should have done it years ago.

My issue is that for a personal goal, I really want to lose another 18kg (40lb) by New Years Eve. I'm slowing down the weight loss now cause I have had my dramatic initial reduction then plateau.

I swim 4 times a week, boxing class and boot camp each once a week. Am looking at possibly adding a Bodypump weights class. I eat clean and don't drink alcohol much at all. I walk a lot too.

Do you think another 18kg/40lb by NYE is possible? Can it be done? Would appreciate any suggestions from people on how I might do this...

Cheers,
D.

10-12 pounds a month is pretty aggressive after your initial success. What has gotten me to where I am is not focusing on a number, but focusing on the process and letting the numbers fall where they may. It sounds like you are doing all of the right things, just keep it up and let the weight come off as it may. Having the sleeve is a pretty stressful thing to your body already, my suggestion is to not try to 'amp up' your life an¥ more to hit an arbitrary number.

DJ I am in Melbourne and 7 months out and I am still losing an average 9-10 pounds per month and being a female I lose slower than males generally. However, you do a lot more exercise than I do and you may have muscle weight still building. I think it is still very possible for you to lose 40 pounds. However, is it a size you want to be or a exact weight? Is this a personal goal or a bet with someone else than you will lose a target weight by that date? I lost near 30 pounds between the 5-7 month period (my last 3 months). I rarely exceed 900 calories still and average 7-800 tbh. On exercise days I might have a little more. But I have my 'overdo' days occasionally too where I exceed 1200 but they are rare. I have my fingers crossed for you. Don't beat yourself up on stall periods, the weight loss will just average itself out over the next few months rather than regular consistent smaller losses each day or two as it was in the first 4 months. Good luck.

I agree with Rob. Really the point of this is to get to a normal weight and be healthy and you are doing that. To have goals is fine, but the truth is, you can't force a certain amount of loss in a certain time frame. Concentrate on consistently hitting your calories and water goals, keep up the exercise and the rest of your weight will come off. Maybe not as fast as you want, but it will come off.

Hi, I am in Adelaide. I can't comment too much on the pace of the loss. I do want to say though that a lot of people who start Body Pump get great results in body shape and muscle definition (if you have not done much strength style training yet). So even if you scale doesn't agree, maybe the clothing sizes and muscle definition can compensate if you go that way. - Make sure you have enough protein if you do start it though, since you need that protein to repair the muscles and help them grow.

Sure, you probably could- but can you keep that up and is it the quality of life that you want? I think I felt that way more at the beginning- that I wanted to see certain numbers within a certain time frame. I had a follow up with my surg yesterday- and asked what my next goal is- and instead of a number I got “get under 200 and stay there for the rest of your life”- that really put it in perspective. Now that I’ve passed 100lbs lost- I want to make sure I’m still losing- but it’s slowed down and I don’t feel like a failure if it’s 1lb that week instead of 2.5. I also want to have at least one day a week where I’m active, but not set to a workout routine.
