Titration Sleep Study

You know what? It is empowering to take control of my own health decisions. I had a miserable night at my initial sleep study, because the place was just really bad. Bad beds, no bathroom, short cables for the leads and missing ceiling tiles (which was creepy).

When they told me I had to go back for a titration, I nearly cried. I scheduled it, but then when I came home, I used one of my cognitive behavioral forms to list the event and the emotions and thoughts. Then, what I came down to was an action plan: Find a better sleep study place.

So I looked into it and since I am in Pittsburgh, there are a bunch of sites. I chose Passavant, because they really talked to me and let me come see the place before my second study.

So last night I got there and I had my own room with a nice bathroom and shower. It looked like a nice hotel. I got changed and the technician put the leads on me after a bit and he left me for a while to get used to them. Then he came back to fit me with a mask.

I chose the nose only one (but not the nose pillow, which goes into the nostrils). It was ok for most of the night and then I started coughing in the middle of the night. He came in and asked me if I would like a full mouth and nose mask. That was much better.

So I didn't sleep a lot, but I slept enough for them to set the level. I could tell when they were changing it, because I would wake up sort of gasping. It wasn't really uncomfortable and as soon as the air came back on full, I was able to fall back to sleep.

Here's a photo of me with all the leads on.

He said that my level was set pretty high and that I should revisit them after I have lost thirty pounds to recalibrate.

Glad that you found a better place to get your study done. I remember all those leads and goop in my hair. The main point is you got a reading and can work on that information. Good luck.

Im glad you were able to find somewhere else to try again. I did a sleep study yrs ago and they couldn't get a good reading because I'd hardly slept. They wanted me to go back in for another try but I just couldn't :cold_sweat:

I was surprised that I did sleep at all. Apparently it was enough to read my patterns and set a level for the CPAP. I haven't heard anything from anyone since last Thursday though. Strange.
