Today's victories

I've lost 3lb this week to hit my big 3-0.

Also today is my cheat day. I'm not debating cheat days as each to their own. Personally I enjoy my monday treats and I work my *kitten* off at the gym the rest of the week to earn it and it keeps me sane. Plus I lose a lot weekends through work and being at a huge calorie deficit because of.the nature of my job so Mondays got some wiggle room anyway. But today's victory is my cheat day coming in at less than 2800 calories. When I first started my cheat was.coming in at 3500 so I've dropped it 700 cals so far. Eventually my aim is.Mondays to be 2500 and the rest of the week sticking to however many cals I've set myself which is currently 1480. I know 2800 is still loads to.some.people but its actually maintenance cals for.me so I'm in a deficit 6 days this week (hopefully) and maintained today :)

I've also completely cut.fizzy drinks out unless I'm in a cafe etc and grabbing something on the run and then it's a.diet one. Bought a cherry coke today thinking I'd treat myself and threw.it away half finished it just wasn't thay tasty! Think this is contributing to the decent loss this week and also being able to lower my cheat day calories.

Love this - one maintenance day a week ... hmm, I'll have to give this some thought. I had to quite thinking of treat/cheat days as such, and just work indulgences into my daily food, as if I had a whole day of "who cares," it was the beginning of undoing this for me. I'm glad you don't have this turnaround struggle. I might have it less if my job was as busy as yours, as that sure prohibits choices! I'm glad to see you making such progress!

What I think is coolest is that as your body gets healthier, the choices you once swore you couldn't live without are now less appealing or even sickening! :) Go us.

Love this idea. Maintenance day totally changes the focus. I have to think about this one. :)

My favorite thing I read today, which I totally AGREE, "You can't cheat on food. You are not in a relationship with food. You have not given vows or a marital declaration to food. It's choosing." -George Bryant

I got a piece of advice from my friend who had gastric bypass years ago. Her surgeon said if she was going to eat chocolate then go for a small amount of the most luxurious chocolate she could afford. Not from a supermarket.. something more specialist. I love the thought behind it and I feel it would be very effective for me. So as time goes by and I am ready for chocolate, we have a little store here that is a specialist chocolatier store, it's $13.00 for two chocolates of your choice. Yep incredibly expensive for me but that is what I will do to put chocolate in it's proper place, as a luxury I treat myself to now and again.

Sounds awesome, Julie. Plus I'm totally jealous that you have a place close that sells that luxurious of chocolate!! I don't have anything like that in town. But yes, if I'm going to burn my calories on something I don't need, it had better darned well be a decent quality item. :) **SO glad I ended up getting a protein drink with a bit too much sugar instead of stopping at McDonald's as originally entertained idea of...**

If you want a protein shake DO try the Atkins ones. Delicious, especially the coffee flavors.

Oh, yuck!! I tried a self-inflicted love affair attempt with coffee. Abject failure. Atkins usually used sugar alcohols the last time I used their products much, and those things tear me up digestively. But I'll look into them for sure, as long as they have flavors other than coffee! Quick options on crappy days will be our saving grace!

Thanks, Julie - and hope you're recovering well...
