Downsampling

So I only just recently found out that downsampling was a thing. For anybody who doesn't know, downsampling done by forcing a resolution high than your monitor's native resolution. This causes your graphics card to render a much higher resolution but is then displayed on your lower resolution. The result is better anti-aliasing than your standard software options.

I've been messing around with it a little and have gotten my monitor to do 3840x2160 @55Hz which downsamples to my native resolution of 2560x1440. The results are fairly impressive. I've attached some images from Mirror's Edge I took on my first test run. I'm not sure if this will do any compression on them though; I've never posted images here.

I'd like to try to get up to 4k but so far my monitor doesn't want to cooperate and I'm going to have to go in and manually mess with timings.

Has anybody else messed with this before? Anybody have monitor's that will let them get up to 4k?
