I did my first bike ride in over 10 years today!!

I didn't do as much as I would have liked. I rode 4.4 miles of the Mt Vernon Trail in Alexandria, VA. I made the mistake of riding south on my first ride. It has a nice hill that was a bear and tired me out well before I wanted to be. My goal is to ride the entire trail 18 miles by the end of the summer. I don't know how often I will be able to get there that is why the time frame is longer. I will be doing other rides around my neighborhood until then. I did better than I thought I would but not as good as I hoped. I will do this!!!

Well done! The first one's tough isn't it. Good to hear you're motivated and have a goal set down. That helps! To start I was unprepared about what I wanted to achieve...

Get on strava!!! Brag about the rides! It's all good!

Thanks. I will look into Strava. I plan on another ride Saturday morning depending on the weather. Plan to go at least 10 miles...

Last year around October I struggled to do any more than 5 miles, when I reached 7 miles I felt fantastic, when I hit 10 I couldn't stop smiling - nowadays and a fair bit more training now, I am now approaching the longest ride being 50 miles, and feeling great!

Keep it up, you will get there.

    That's great! Keep it up.
Pretty soon you'll knock that trail out and wish it were longer.

You are on your way. Last year my first 30 mile ride took like 3.5 hours. Today I can knock it out in about 2 hours. After the first ride, i couldn't stand up and walk for an hour after the ride, then i cramped and was stiff for days. I rarely get cramps now. CONGRATULATIONS, stick with it, you will love it.

I went from a 5 mile ride last May to a 100 mile ride by September. The jump from 5 miles to 20 miles was the most difficult. Once I was able to do 20 mile rides, adding distance was pretty straight forward.

Just keep riding. Yes, your rear is going to be sore for a while, but the more often you get back on the bike, the sooner your body will adjust (no more sore bum).
