Health officials say clean eating can become obsessive disorder

Government is not liking people taking responsibility for their own nutrition and realizing how WRONG the government sponsored food pyramid is. So there's now a campaign to begin to discredit those of trying to truly eat healthier. Sure, in anything there are always extremists ... so extremism has now apparently become a disorder like so many things these days.

That's ridiculous! I can't even take that article seriously. This part especially:

"It spirals out of control as you add more and more rules, you start becoming more strict. Everything has to be pure and organic and if it's not it does not touch your plate," Overstreet said.

As a result they can lose drastic amounts of weight and become deficient in certain vitamins and minerals."

I'm guessing that for most people, if they consume only pure and organic food then they will no be deficient in much of anything to include calories.

I finally recorded another podcast. I talked about this post and this article. It is stupid. I think being obsessive is a problem. But that is a personality thing. I am currently obsessing about NOT eating clean. And when I eat clean, I obsess about that. I have many "disorders" I guess as does everyone. The issue is not the clean eating. It is how we think about things that we do.

I have to agree with Carol. I am obsessive by nature. It has everything to do with my brain and nothing to do with the action. I would much rather obsess over health then unhealthy. Also, sometimes a little obsessive focus is necessary for me in the beginning when I am building a habit or lifestyle change. In some ways cleaning up my diet helps to alleviate my tendency to obsess. Healthy body, healthy mind:)

Like the rest of you this article or anything similar makes me crazy! While I do understand there are those who may use clean eating as another form of orthopedic (so?), I suspect they fall into the eating disorder trap no matter which way of eating they have chosen at the moment. Meanwhile, the vast majority of clean eaters have just decided they will no longer blindly follow government guidelines or manufacturers marketing, and want to put what is best for their health into their bodies. Guess it is better to ignorantly troll the center of the grocery, mindlessly grabbing whatever box, bag or can hits our eyes...getting sicker, less healthy by the year. Soylent Green anyone. :#

Concur with all the above, there is a fine line between focused intensity and obsession. I tend to the former probably what made me a good soldier and Air Traffic Controller, Recreation and wellness professional, etc along with most of the rest of the stuff I do. Yet when I'm not doing them, I don't think about them, so don't think I'm obsessed; if I am, oh well just another life puzzle I'm probably not gonna solve.

Seriously good thoughts. It does bother me that some seem to look for the bad side of things. I know there are folks thy will delight in this article. I can hear it now "See?? All thy clean eating isn't so great."
