Help! How can I slow down the gain?

How can I slow down my weight gain? I am tracking my food. Trying to be good about what I eat, drink plenty of water... and still the scale is going up too fast. I'm almost 27 weeks and I am up 12-17lbs (depending on when I weigh). The Dr. wants me to gain 11-20lbs max due to my pre-pregnancy weight.

Also, how would you all get your husband on board? It is hard to say no when he wants ice cream or a cookie after dinner. Grr to my lack of self control!

I have been pretty diligent over the last 5 weeks in order to slow my weight gain and I have found upping my exercise levels and keeping my calorie intake to right about 2000 calories a day has been my magic combination. I have ice cream with my husband every night after dinner, so I make sure I account for that in my daily calorie allowance planning. Here's where the more exercise has helped. I've added some swimming into my weekly routine which has been a nice way to get some low impact cardio in.

I think it's also worth remembering that at this stage in the pregnancy, the baby does not grow at a steady rate and so you may see bigger gains some weeks than others. Don't get too hung up on your week-to-week gains. Just make sure you're keeping your intake reasonable and making fairly healthy choices (not that I'm one to talk!) and you should do well.

I'm right there with you, I've got 2 months to go and I've already hit the number I wanted to max out at! My plan is to keep my cals to about 2000 a day and be diligent about getting 20-30min of exercise at least 3 days a week. I'm not allowed to do anything too strenuous at this point, but I can at least make a point of going for a walk on my lunch break and doing some hand weights while I watch tv, stuff like that. Good luck!

I'm set for a low gain amount too due to pre-pregnancy weight. I'm still really early, around 11 weeks, and only gained 2 pounds in the first trimester. That's good, but I'm worried about the next 2 trimesters! I've increased my working out, but it's hard with all the fatigue! My plan is to watch my sugar intake, which is not a great plan for me. My self control is ZERO! I've just been trying to get as many whole foods and vegetables as possible so that I feel full on the healthy stuff most the time. Good luck!

I've gained 23 lbs at 16 weeks. I think my gain is due to not being able to keep anything down but carbs.
