Meditation
Tuesday, Ordinary 30, Proper 25 revealed the influence of God on one’s life. The Old Testament lesson in Exodus described Moses’ face as shining so bright, after he encountered God face to face on the mountain, that he frightened the people of Israel. He wore a head covering when he talked with them and took it off when he visited on the mountain with God. His encounter with God was so pure that it shone in his face.
Compare the encounter with someone, who has just fallen in love. On a lesser scale, his/her face would be glowing or shining brightly. It is noticeable and it brightens up a room when they walk in. Love makes things glow. God is love.
Moses’ encounter with God was an encounter with the purest Love. His face shone brightly after that.
The New Testament epistle in James dealt with the impact of God on one’s life. When one truly believed in God, that purity and love would change the person’s demeanor. Faith would result in a change of behavior. James knew that, so he preached the corollary. If one was not demonstrating that changed behavior—showing evidence of the faith in God, then that faith must have been dead. Just like someone in love couldn’t help but shine and bubble the enthusiasm that accompanied falling in love, faith in God couldn’t help but bubble out into life actions. Unless one’s faith was dead.
The Psalmist showed the way to keep faith alive. He prayed that the words he would say would be true. He could live in perfect freedom because his faith in God’s judgments was certain.
Life with God changes things for people. Faith changes a person. If a person is not experiencing change the Psalmist had ways to revive the relationship, because God was faithful and trustworthy.
Thanks be to God.

Exodus 34:29-35

29 And it came to pass, when Moses came down from mount Sinai with the two tables of testimony in Moses' hand, when he came down from the mount, that Moses wist not that the skin of his face shone while he talked with him.

30 And when Aaron and all the children of Israel saw Moses, behold, the skin of his face shone; and they were afraid to come nigh him.
31 And Moses called unto them; and Aaron and all the rulers of the congregation returned unto him: and Moses talked with them.
32 And afterward all the children of Israel came nigh: and he gave them in commandment all that the LORD had spoken with him in mount Sinai.
33 And till Moses had done speaking with them, he put a vail on his face.
34 But when Moses went in before the LORD to speak with him, he took the vail off, until he came out. And he came out, and spake unto the children of Israel that which he was commanded.

I hope you found a chance to encounter your Creator and experience the Love of God and the joy of Christ in Ordinary 30, Proper 25.
Conclusion
Tuesday, Ordinary 30, Proper 25 reminded us that we must not let our faith go dormant. The Psalmist didn’t. He prayed that God would help him be truthful and honor God before his enemies, because God would give him the words to say.
James, the practical apostle, pointed out that if one’s faith were not evident by one’s actions, then that faith was dead. Perhaps that is why so many churches today seem dead. People don’t put their faith into action.
But we have learned the crux of our faith is Love. God is Love and when God’s love is at work in us, our faith through. We might even shine with God’s glory as Moses did, maybe not so shiny, but recognizably bright.
Go out and be ready for God to do mighty things in your life—for the glory of God.*
