Staying on track.

It seems that for most people who had VSG or are considering it, they had years of dieting and not being able to keep the weight off.
What about having VSG has made you stay on track? How did having VSG give you success where diets and plans failed?
Looking for motivation but also curious about bumps along the road.

My take on this is not all that glamorous. To put it bluntly: I can't eat. Nothing tastes all that good to me. My stomach is small. There's just no room and stuff I used to like I don't like anymore. I stay on track because I don't have room for junk food. If I eat junk, I won't get needed nutrients. I have to make every bite count.
Yes, I could eat donuts all day, but I don't want to. That much sugar would make me sick.
It's not a diet. You can eat anything you want. Thing is, you just don't want to and even if you do, a few bites is enough and you'll bring it back up if you eat too much.0 -
Hi--I haven't found that my tastes have changed like other people have but what I have found is that my stomach is in clear communication with me about what's enough to eat. I have found that I am much more mindful of what my stomach is telling me as I am eating because I don't want to feel bad. I still like the foods I liked before, its just that my sleeve helps me have the self control that I didn't have when I was relying on my brain. I would say that is how it keeps me on track. When I eat I am constantly concentrating on eating instead of eating mindlessly while doing other things.0

In addition to what others have said - I think what put me on track is that after surgery, I was pretty much starting off with a clean slate, and I had to start from square one as far as introducing new foods back into my diet. It took a lot of focus and a lot of conscious effort. With all that effort, I made sure my choices were good ones, because I had fully committed to making the changes I needed to make to be successful long term. What has helped keep me on track is seeing my continued weight loss, feeling better and healthier, and being able to have a quality of life that I didn't have before.0
