Personality Change

I recently found out I have PCOS and have been working with my doctor to get my hormones/ vitamin levels/ exercise and so forth in check. My husband had commented that 3 weeks into all of these changes it seems like my whole personality has changed. I was thinking it was just the added concern about what we are eating and the exercise that was throwing him off, but looking into it I really have had a big change in things I like now. I was wondering if anyone else noticed anything like that?

Kind of depends on the nature of the changes, but yes, it's not uncommon.

Depression is generally considered a co-morbid of PCOS, though I think that's largely because so many of us just get thrown to the wolves when it comes to trying to manage it. It's very hard to fight a battle all on your own, especially if you don't have a doctor that even tries to help in any meaningful way, and if you are lucky enough to have a doctor that at least tries to help, it can still be extremely frustrating and despair-inducing if the treatments don't work.

Additionally, straightening out hormones is going to screw with your moods/personality, since your hormones play a huge role in that. Levels of things like cortisol, estrogen, and epinephrine and norepinephrine play major roles in mood and personality and are often affected by PCOS treatments, particularly any that affect the adrenals.

If your personality has gone negative, and especially if it seems like anxiety or depression, you might want to talk to your doctor about incorporating Inositol supplementation. It has the dual benefit of positive effects on both PCOS and anxiety/depression/OCD, due to its ability to support the neurological system.

I think the changes have most certainly been positive I feel better since find out about PCOS and starting to treat it but I didnt realize how dramatic the change is for other people in my life.

Heh, it's amazing what happens when you finally start getting answers and learn that it's not just you, isn't it?

I have noticed that I get angry very quickly but I think it has more to do with being put on the strong bc.....being through 3 so far and each one the anger issue gets a little less

People tell me that Im much more aggressive than I ever have been before, which I always think is strange since my testosterone is suppose to be going down!
