Meditation
Thursday, Ordinary 32, Proper 27 brought the Exodus story to a close, as the Children of Israel settled in the plains surrounding Jericho. They had been working with manna for over 40 years, but they planted crops and ate from the corn they produced for their first Passover. The day after they ate their ‘old corn’ meal, the manna stopped coming and they lived off the land they worked. God had fulfilled his promise to bring them back to Canaan and give them the land.
They had come through harsh environments, difficult transits and fighting the locals, but God had promised and God delivered.
The Psalmist sang the recollection of the miracles God had done on their behalf. He knew that fathers and mothers would tell their children and they would tell their children, because of the greatness of what God had done. A good story lingers on.
Through all the hard times, the Israelites prevailed. The New Testament lesson jumped to Revelation and the beginning five of the seven angels that followed the opening of the seventh seal. Disasters beyond what this world has already known will be rained down on the earth.
John saw things like volcanos destroying towns and people; meteor strikes destroying land and people; villainy from locust like robotic machines—an army of death like a Star Wars characters which would cause people pain like a scorpion sting. Who knows what all the disasters actually would be, but they caused serious damage and still people didn’t turn from their wrong doing. But like God’s promise to eradicate the evil, the end times will fulfill the promises of God in the same way that God fulfilled the promise to the Hebrew people.
God’s promises to us will be fulfilled, too.
Thanks be to God.
Prayer: Almighty God, Open my eyes that I might see. Open my mind that I might understand. Open my heart that I might make your words a part of me. May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable in your sight. Amen

Joshua 5:10-12
King James Version (KJV)
10 And the children of Israel encamped in Gilgal, and kept the Passover on the fourteenth day of the month at even in the plains of Jericho.
11 And they did eat of the old corn of the land on the morrow after the Passover, unleavened cakes, and parched corn in the selfsame day.
12 And the manna ceased on the morrow after they had eaten of the old corn of the land; neither had the children of Israel manna anymore; but they did eat of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.

Prayer of Encouragement
Almighty God, you fulfilled your promises to Israel and returned them to the Promised Land. We praise you for your mighty works on behalf of your people. May we bring honor and glory to you. In Jesus name, Amen
I hope you found a chance to encounter your Creator and experience the Love of God and the joy of Christ in Ordinary 32, Proper 27.
Conclusion
Thursday, Ordinary 32, Proper 27 shared the fulfilled promises of God. The Psalmist reminded the Children of Israel to pass on the stories of the miracles of God’s fulfilling his promises. Joshua’s lesson ended the Exodus—the Children of Israel had arrived and settled in the Promised Land and they ate the food of the land instead of manna.
The scary future of the world was revealed in Revelation, but the promises of God remained true. God would protect the saints and rid the world of the evil.
In the meantime, we must do our part to be obedient to the law of God, so that we can prepare those around us for the end times. We can offer God’s salvation and eternal life in the face of the disasters that will be coming.
Go out and be ready for God to do mighty things in your life—for the glory of God.*
